3.3 355ml bottle. Rich orange in colour with a very thin white head, light patchy lacing. The aroma is quite sweet, lots of caramel, malt and alcohol. The flavour is of alcohol up front, some hops, caramel malts and spruce. Very warming bitter mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, boozy. A fucking huge beer, way over the top. Chewy, boozy and hoppy.
3.3 Bottled. Goldeny amber colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is citrus, some bready and mild toffeeish notes to it. Flavour is fruity, floral, some grassy notes as well as mild caramel and bready maltiness to it. Quite balanced, though the alcohol gives it a slight sweet sting.
4.0 Bottle, tasted two years ago. Intense aroma of citrus fruits, pine, caramel. Very strong bitterness lightly balanced by malty and caramel notes. Very good.
4.1 Bottle from 100 piv. Orange golden color with medium white head. Orange zest in honey sweet malt in aroma. Sweet taste with malt, oranges, orange zest, light pines, warming alcohol. Tasty.
4.1 Good, but not great. Color’s a bit dark for a pils. Aroma is good - hops malt toffee caramel, maybe a bit of oxidation. Flavor’s like nose, but massive bitterness, especially in the finish, which thankfully isn’t too long. Body’s good, but also suffers from the insane bitterness. Pretty much a pilsner in name only.
3.6 Bottle. Orange golden pour. Aroma of caramelised malt, grain, pale malt, pine and booze. Taste of strong pine, caramel, boozy burn, harsh dry bitters and citrus. Good beer, but the hop burn high had more depth.
3.9 Poured from a bottle. Citrus, tropical fruits, and pine in the nose. Orange amber with small white head and good lacing as I drink. Orange marmalade, some mango-ish flavors. Bitterness is soft.
3.8 0.33L bottle. Cloudy amber color with tiny white hat. Sweet boiled potato an corn aroma with some rotten citrus fruits. Black tea, prune, raisin, caramel, light grapefruit, light spices flavors. Very good bitter finish with pleasant spice and hop mouthfeeling.
3.9 Keg in the Red Squirrel. Pours golden amber, nose is citrus, pine, caramel, taste is similar, rich and fruity.
3.8 let’s do the comparison. The low is more citrus but with less flavor than the ale one. The both dont’ have a lot of malt flavor what it’s normal and quite good for the style... very good beer, you don’t feel the alcohol.
3.7 Bottle, 330 ml from Za Popen’t, Ljubljana. Pours orange with small white head. Fruity hop aroma. Dry with pine hoppy bitterness. Well hidden alcohol, but rather unbalanced. Interesting brew.
3.5 Bottle at "Nog-een-half-jaar-tot-de-volgende-EBT"-tasting. APPEARANCE: clear blond beer, small unstable white head. NOSE: hoppy, little burned, herbs and spices, little sweet. TASTE: hoppy, dry, bitter, sweet, some alcohol, lots of spices.
3.4 Bottle sample at a tasting at Stas’s place. Thanks Stas & Vova. Pours yellow with a beige head, aroma of honey, marmalade, pine, flavor is bitter with marmalade, pine, alcohol, medium bodied.
4.1 33 cl bottle, Calgary, AB, Canada via Zyn. Hazy deep gold colour, massive hop-nectarine aroma. Grassy, syrupy with some honey, then expanding pine resin finish. High alcohol at the end, nice long burn. Great.
4.5 Pours hazy pale amber with one finger of light tan head diminishing gradually to a thin skim, moderate lacing. (4/5) Nose is aggressive citrus and tropical fruit, mild caramel malt. (9/10) Taste is moderate caramel sweet, intensely bitter pine resin ahead of citrus and tropical fruit, building spice. (9/10) Medium body and slightly oily texture, low sustained carbonation, and a spicy, lingering bitter finish, with an immediate warming in the gut from the high ABV, the high IBUs, or both. (5/5) This is very similar to its brother from another mother, the Hop Burn High (the major difference being that’s an ale instead of a lager like this one). Massive, ridiculous IBU’s - this is so massively bitter that the caramel malt is initially more apparent, because the bitter receptors just max out and give up. It actually gets more bitter as the initial malt flavour subsides. So, yeah - the Mikkeller Draft Bear that I earlier this evening said was the best Imperial Pilsner I ever had? Short reign. (18/20)
3.3 Bottle sample at a tasting at Stas’s place. Thanks Stas & Vova. Hazy golden with a white head.Hoppy, green, some pine aroma, sweetish, diluted date honey with a bite in the mouth. Sweet honey finish and medium-bodied.
3.2 Bottle at home. Pours hazy orange color, white head. Aroma is fruity, hoppy, citrusy, pine. Taste is bitter, medium sweet, grapefruit, orange, hoppy, floral, more like an IPA than lager, but for sure some pilsner notes. Not easy drinkable.
2.9 Bottle sample at a tasting at Stas’s place. Thanks Stas & Vova. Hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of slightly stale hops, piney and resinous, slightly honey-ish malt and alcohol. Sweet flavor with honey-ish malt, slightly stale resinous hops, alcohol and strong bitterness. Medium-bodied. Too sweet and heavy and not fresh enough.
3.7 Smells of malt & honey. Exceptionally sweet for a lager but any drier & the alcohol would probably show it's head. The hops blend well with the sweetness adding piney, woody & herbal notes. I think this beer is trying a little too hard to be extreme & I can't help but feel it would be better if it was toned down an little. Rated by BrewTom
4.4 First impression that really stuck with me from this one was, 10%?? No way. I have never tasted a strong beer with such well hidden alcohol note. Aroma is hoppy and malty with definite pilsner tones. Some particles floating around indicating a natural and hopped up beer, looks not so tasty but still i like it. Tastewise my favourite Lager fermented beer, the balance is hard to describe with anything else than flawless. Bottle from Mikkellers webshop.
3.5 Smell of hops. Hazy orange colour, white head. Aroma of hops, spruce, alcohol, some tobacco. Bitter with some alcohol sweetness. Oily texture, flat carbon.
Buenisima.
3.2 Bottle.Pours hazy deep golden with a white head.Aroma of malt, frutitiness, some pine and citrus with some spicy notes. Flavor is sweet and malty with some caramel, biscuits, bread, pine and warming alcohol. Medium to full body, average carbonation.
4.1 Pours cloudy dark gold with a small white top. Aroma is intense pine and floral hops. I’ve said intense before, and I’ve lied or more importantly not knew what intense really quantified. This thing is packed with hop aromas and flavours. Taste is dank, so dank that I was burping hops for hours. My wife wouldn’t come near me. I had to brush my teeth multiple times. In short, it was great. Thanks to Reimer for this.
5.0 Aroma: resin, lemon; Appearance: pale orange, hop residues, long tall creamy head; Taste: intense bitterness, medium sweetness, medium sourness; Palate: full body, thick texture, long finish, soft carbonation Refreshing lager with a delicious mouthfeel. Noble not astringent bitterness. Spicy but not appalling. Some blonde hay notes but without excess. For magical moments :-)
3.7 "Hmmm. If this is Hop Burn Lo, I wonder what Hi is... My 100th unique brew from my favorite gypsies. This imperial india lager has a crisp bready aroma, with some grapefruit and pine as well. feel is nice and covers up the 10% fairly well. Resiny sweetness in the flavor, with ample bitterness. Nicely done."
3.1 Bottle. Deep golden colour with a white head. Flavour and aroma is alcohol, malt, hop, peaches, orange, oxidation, caramel. Boozy beer.
3.6 Bottle from Beermoth, Manchester. Hazy orange. Thin, tight, lasting, white head. Marmalade on buttery toast. Boozy, sweet malt. Bit of fusty hop. Taste is thick sweet. Light dry. Light bitter. Palate is full, with soft carbonation. Finishes bitter and stewed fruit sweet. Full on.
3.8 Cloudy orange color, small off-white head. Very pleasant aroma. Fruity, floral hops. Weird bitterness. Heavy bitter finish. Spicy. Alcohol not noticeable. Very nice. (Za Popen’t 0,33l bottle)
