Mikkeller Hop Series Cascade

Mikkeller Hop Series Cascade

This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

3.5 Le houblon cascade est merveilleux entre citron et orange avec une pointe de racine
3.5 Bottle from Vino Wines. Murky amber body with a huge off-white head. Lots of sticky lacing. Mild aroma of lime, pine and caramel. Flavour is similar - sharp citrus, pine, faint yeast and biscuit. Well balanced flavour, but not particularly powerful. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft carbonation. I had this after the Simcoe - this paled in comparison (but it’s still very nice).
3.5 330ml bottle. Pourse dark hazy orange, with beige cream head that doesn’t last long. Fresh fruity aroma (grapefruit). Taste is very similar, fresh and fruity. Bitter, dry aftertaste.
3.4 330ml bottle. Orangey deep amber colour, foam white head and aroma of tropical fruits and sweet orange citrus. Taste is caramel malt with juicy tropical fruit, orange hop and earthy bitterness. Slightly oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, medium carbonation, warming bitter finish. Quite drinkable.
3.7 330 ml bottle. Pours a dark cloudy copper amber colour with a white lacy head. Aroma of citrus, white grapes, some lemongrass and caramel. Flavour of smooth and sweet caramel malts, strong citrusy hops, white grapes, some herbal notes and biscuit. Medium bodied, smooth mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Not overwhelminly bitter but very nicely balanced with the biscuity maltiness. This could easily go as a stronger APA rather than an IPA because of the fairly low alpha acid concentration and high fruitiness. Great stuff still.
3.7 Bottle. Murky orange pour with a frothy white head. Nice grapefruit and citrus aroma and taste. A little floral as well. Very nice - I’m a fan of this hop variety.
3.3 from Erzbierschof - pretty clear amber-orange beer with a moderate foam left; fresh grapefruity hoppiness; lightly flowery; medium-bodied and with a moderate yet long lasting bitterness; more grapefruity hoppy notes in the finish with hints of caramel - quite simplistic and one-dimensional
3.7 I cannot get over how perfect this series is for a young, aspiring, arrogant, devilishly handsome, prosaic, ex-wife countin’, beer geek. Love brewers that have the pride to showcase ingredients! 330ml bottle from work (another one of my additions) Pours a hazy copper orange with a fairly frothy head. spotty lacing. Aroma is citrus, spruce, cereal, mild doughyness.Taste is supplemented by a cascadey whirlwind of citrusy, grapefruit hops, sweetness and a lingering bitterness, however, the cascade hops make the malt character a co-star in this beer, a caramelly, bready, pastry shop quality which is remarkable and pleasant.
3.7 Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass dark golden, nice head. Dry-hoppy aroma. Starts grasy-dry, light lemon notes, fine spicy. Nice bitter notes in the background. Not bad!
3.9 Bottle from Beer Cartel. Slightly hazy orange/amber, lasting head, resiney pine, quite floral, some grapefruit/citrus. Medium-high bitterness, but still quite sweet as well, medium body. Really liked this one!
3.7 Bottle from perfect pour. Pours dark orange with a thin khaki head. Faint floral on the nose. Nice hop flavor on the tongue with enough bitterness to finish clean without being a hop bomb. Nice!
3.2 Pours cloudy deep orange with a dappled white head. Aroma of barnyard, herbal, dust. Flavour of light citrus fruits, herbal notes, earth. Medium bodied
3.5 33cl Bottle. Blind tasting of all 19 Mikkeller Hop Series beers. Shared with Mathieu87. Appearance: amber beer, stable white head. Nose: very sweet nose, pleasant! Taste: mild taste, light sweet, very balanced. I can understand why a lot of brewers use this kind of hop.
3.6 Fra flaske på Humle i Annen mars-13: nr. 17, og flere i panelet har kastewt inn glasset og forlatt åstedet. Bare 38 IBU, men ganske bitter allikevel. Fruktig og god. Fikk først en stjerne i margen, men denne ble strøket uten at jeg kan erindre hvorfor...
4.0 Weak sage, banana on nose. Taste of sweet fruit, hvite pepper. (From tasting of all Hop series Cardinal 11. March)
3.8 Appearance: Hazy dark orange color with a fine off white head that leaves a fine lacing. Aroma: Malty, fruity and grape hoppy. Palate: Medium body. Slightly sweet and a rich bitterness. Average carbonation. Taste: Fruity and rich (grape) hoppy on a solid malt background. Overall impression: Heavy stuff. Nice IPA but it is better with Cascade together with some other friends. Personal stats: Bottle from Vinmonopolet Oslo - Vika in Oslo, Norway.
4.0 33cl bottle @ home. Hazy orange color, medium sized, creamy, fairly long lasting, fair lacing white to off - white head. Aroma of malts, citrus, oranges, hops, grapefruit. Taste malts, hops, grapefruit, bitter, fruity. Medium body and carbonation. I very much like this. A clean IPA, nothing outrageous, good balance. Lovely.
3.7 Bottle, enjoyed september 15th 2012. Hazy dark orange body, big offwhite head. Aroma of citrus hops, grapefruit. Dry taste with cara malt, grapefruit and oranges. Good strong bitterness. Not very special in any way, but a solid cascade ipa.
3.0 not bad, lacking in the flavour of others in this range. A little soapy at the end.
3.8 Richmond 19th. Fun to get to hit a few of this series. Medium orange, Aroma of caramel and grapefruit and pine hop. Flavor matches. Not bad.
3.2 Sampled at the Richmond Gathering 19. Slightly hazy amber with small particulate and faint offwhite head. Smells and tastes of old musty earthy hops. Faintly citrus, but that has faded for the mostpart. Not my favorite of the group.
3.0 RG 19. Bottle. Orangey with thin head and light lacing. Smells floral and grapefruity. Tastes really sweet. Syrupy with a light bitter finish.
3.2 Whole orange nose. Cloudy amber, medium head, full of floaties. Stale hops, caramel, orange peel.
3.5 From the bottle poured a yellowish brown brew with a light white head. Heavy malt aroma. Medium full bodied with malty flavor and a strong hop presence that lingers.
3.3 Bottle from State Line, shared at the 19th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering. Pours a clear amber color with a large creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of big citrus, tropical hops, mild earth, mild pale malts. The taste is citrus, pine, earthy hops. Slight vegetal. Medium bodied. Solid.
3.4 3rd July 2011 Hazy amber beer, small off white head. Semi soft and semi dry palate with a carbonated nip. Minerals. Mildly creamy malt, dry. Bitterish orange that turns a little sweeter at the semi dry finish. Okay but lacks something.
3.2 Pours dark amber, a bit hazy. The cap shows this has been brewed in April 2011 ! ! ! Dranken Geers beer shop should check its stocks and shelf lives before selling old ales to customers. This was supposed to be a fresh hoppy IPA. Nose: caramelised malt, toffe, a hint of guava and grapefruit (but candied, not fresh). Mouth: nice soft bitterness. Not as fresh and tasty as expected but quite good.
3.8 Aroma is citrus, a hint of tropical fruit and biscuit malts. The flavor is citrus, biscuit malts, slight sweetness and mix of tangy and slightly syrupy/alcohol kick in the finish.
3.6 Ambrata buona schiuma persistente agrumata pompelmo piuttosto asciutta amaro medio agrumato
3.5 33 cl bottle @ home. Pours golden amber with a little sediment and a white head that leaves a lot of lacing. Aroma is citrusy and grassy hops, as well as some caramel malt. Flavour is quite similar to the aroma.
