Mikkeller Hop Series Citra

Mikkeller Hop Series Citra

This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

3.7 @ Havregatan. Flaska från Kihoskh, Köpenhamn. Citrus, grape, malt, fruktig, ganska hög sötma, medelfyllig. Besk avslutning.
4.0 Bottle from Erzbierschof / Hazy amber color, frothy beige head, good lasting and lacing / a lot of fruits, passion fruits, litchi, grapefruit, mandarin, hints of caramalt aroma / Good malt backbone, caramalt, citrusy, yeasty flavor / Medium body, medium bitterness, high carbonation, dry, dry fruity bitter finish / probably the best of the series
3.0 Strawberries and melon, but hard to distinguish any particular unique hop flavour.
3.6 Sample from bottle at the Cardinal stand at Nærbø, Ølfestivalen 2013. Hazy nut golden body with a tanned film. Chai spices, bergamot and tea on the nose. Malty bitter light resiny flavors. Medium body. long finish.
4.4 Aroma: hopsy citrus Appearance: golden brown Taste: - medium sweet, heavy bitter, heavy sour and UMAMI! Texture: slick and lively. Finish: bitter and long My favourite hops=CITRA!
3.7 Shared bottle at Nærbøfestivalen, 13. Pours clear dark golden with a small creamy white head. Aroma is sweet citrussy, lemons. Taste is showcasing Citra, lemon, lime and grapefruit, crisp & fresh, very good.
3.7 Bottle from Vino Wines. Murky amber body with a medium off-white head that holds well. Muted aroma of wood, oranges and lemons. Flavour of lemon cake, pine, caramel and biscuit. Medium body with an oily texture. Lively carbonation. Not as intensely fruity as other Citra hopped beers I’ve tried. A solid beer overall, but it doesn’t showcase this incredible hop particularly well.
3.8 33cl bottle 6.8% abv. description is misleading. single hop ipa is a different series. someone screwed up with the label text. orange brown cloudy brew with creamy head. aroma with lots of hops. refreshing bitter taste (88 ibu) with grapefruit, some caramel and bitter aftertaste. very nice and balanced.
3.7 330 ml bottle, enjoyed at Barcelona in a tasting of Centennial-Citra-Amarillo-Simcoe. Pours a dark amber colour with a white head. Aroma of floral hops, cat piss, grapefruit and some herbal notes. Flavour of strong floral hops, citrus, mellow caramel, herbs and rather strong herbal notes. Medium bodied, soft carbonation and a citrusy bitter finish with some herbs. Not the most hop-intensive IPA from their Hop Series, but still pleasant.
3.9 from Erzbierschof - cloudy dark red-amber beer with a long lasting beige foam; hoppy aroma of grapefruits and oranges; medium to full-bodied, roundedand tasty, clean and faor bitterness, dry and long fruity hoppy finish
4.1 Gyllen dunkel farve med gyllent skum. Lukt av appelsin, sitrus og karamell. Smak av grapefrukt, sitrus og karamell. Melkebaren.
4.0 Fin frisk duft av humle og citrus. Grumset gul brun farge. Tynt hengende skum.
3.7 Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; cloudy copper pour with foamy off white head, pine aroma with soft citrus, pine taste with zesty citrus action and a hint of caramel, slight oily hop taste.
3.8 Bottle at home, from Cotteridge Wines, 14/07/13 - storming of some such or other south of the channel day. Hazed orange amber with a big white head that thins but retains to an aesthetically pleasing level - this beer ladies and gents looks the bollocks! Nose is floral hops, orange peel, caramel, citrus. Taste comprises juicy hops, bitter orange, light grapefrtui, sugars, light tropical fruit sundae, melon, caramel, toasted malts. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, subtle hop bitterness in the finish. Nice - I’ve always liked Citra and was hoping this one would stand out as one of the best in the series from Mikkeller - it didn’t disappoint!
3.1 Bottle. Poured amber with a creamy off-white head that had some lasting. Huge chunky floaters which was a big turn off for me. Citrus aroma. The flavor found citrus hops and a caramel backing. Medium body and a medium bitterness.
3.7 Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass copper coloured, small head. Starts fine hoppy, a bit soapy, dry, some grasy notes. Bitter background. But finish well balanced, mild fruity like lemon. Nice!
3.3 Bottle poured into a shaker. Aroma of caramel with citrus and grapefruit. Taste is light bitter. Citrus, tropical fruit, pineapple and grapefruit. Medium bodied with a somewhat slick texture. Very good, but i think i would like to try it fresh.
4.0 bottle. Light amber with two finger head. Typical of Mikkeller IPA, there’s a fair amount of malt. I love Citra hops, and this certainly shows them off well. Big fruity hops. Excellent.
3.4 Bottle from Beer Cartel. Hazy amber/brown, massive clumps of sediment, medium frothy head, grapefruit, lemon, some ripe stone fruit, over-ripe passionfruit, sweet caramel malt, medium bitterness. Not bad.
3.2 pours cloudy orange with pillowy off-white head and LOTS of yeasty sediment. aroma is mostly funk, floral, and grassy notes, with some bread and maybe some banana as well; it’s obvious this bottle has some age, and there’s only the slightest hint of lemony hops left in the aroma. flavor is caramel malts, grass, and yeast, with very faint traces of piney, citrusy hops. creamy mouthfeel with essentially zero hop bite.. interesting, and still drinkable (if you can get past the heavy sediment), but left me wishing i could try it fresh!
3.4 Bottle: pours cloudy amber with tons of yeast particulates floating around, nice off white head that settles to a ring. Nose is musty, distinctive mikkeller yeast, some fruits but this bottle is obviously past it's prime. More caramel malt sweetness and some breadiness coalescing with some musty earth hop flavors.still drinkable but let's face it, old bottle... Boo.
3.4 33cl Bottle. Blind tasting of all 19 Mikkeller Hop Series beers. Shared with Mathieu87. Appearance: amber beer, stable white head. Nose: a very neutral scent. Didn’t give away much in my opinion. Taste: very good balance, rather fruity, grapefruit.
3.7 Fra flaske på Humle i Annen mars-13: syvende av i alt 19 i serien, her var der en herlig aroma av stikkelsbær. Nydelig smak. IBU 88. den første jeg noterte stjerne i margen for.
4.1 Nose is lemon balm, lemongrass, caramel Taste is Grapefruit, pine, weed, caramel. (From tasting of all Hop series Cardinal 11. March)
3.8 Bottle from Mane Liquor. Poured into a tulip, muddy appearance. Obvious hoppy/citrus notes on the nose. Taste was citrus/grapefruit with a slightly bigger caramel maltiness than anticipated. Very drinkable.
3.7 11.2oz bottle in a tulip. Pours cloudy amber with an off-white head. Aroma of citrus hops, some floral notes and caramel and honey from the malts. Flavor the same, with a good amount of hops. Average texture. A good beer, but I’d like to try it fresh.
3.6 Bottle from Mi-Orge Mi-Houblon, Arlon, Belgium The beautiful copper-colored beer pours into the glass, with a high, creamy, delicate, durable head. It smells very citrus-hoppy, with lots of grapefruit and some caramel. Starts hoppy-sweet, very fruity, with a lot of citrus and grapefruit. The middle part has a lot of tropical fruit and citrus and some pine woods, coupled with a slight grassiness. Goes into a citrus-fruity finish with pine woods and tropical fruits.
