Mikkeller Hop Series Cluster

Mikkeller Hop Series Cluster

This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

3.6 Okay this is 6 months past use-by date but here goes - the usual (too) robust and (too) heavy (for me) roast malt base - decent complex herbal/piney aroma still there, which is mirrored on the palate - too short lived bitter kick - I like it, although it doesn’t set my world on fire.
2.9 Bottle: Poured a dirty cloudy amber color ale with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dusty dank hops with leafy notes and some biscuit malt notes. Taste is dominated by dank musty hoppy notes withleafy notes and some biscuit malt. Body is full with good carbonation. Another one where I do have to ask why do retailer keep overpriced IPA which don’t move with no freaking bottling date.
4.1 330ml bottle from Thistle News, Aberdeen. Orange brown, reasonable head. Fruity hop aroma. Soapy biscuit resin fruit hop flavour. Bitter sweet hoppy aftertaste. A new hop and a good one.
3.4 Bottle from Erzbierschof - Hazy amber color with a beautiful tan head fully lasting and beautiful lacing - Aroma is malty, caramel, orange and mandarins - Flavor of orange and malt - Medium body, light/medium bitterness, sweet, sweet malt and orange finish - Good but too sweet and not amazing
3.8 Bottle. Moderate aromas all around, with cereal and nutty for the malt, orange for the hops, dough for the yeast, with background notes of date, toffee and nutmeg. Head is small to average in size, fizzy/frothy light beige with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is muddy medium brown. Flavor starts slightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and lightly to moderately bitter. Palate is medium, oily with a fizzy carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish. Way different then their other single hop IPAs. Not sure the difference is from hop variety or the length of time it sat in the bottle.
3.4 Pretty similar to the bravo as none of these are very fresh since I got them onsale at Schneider’s. The hops here is less interesting than bravo though. Still good malt profile, crisp barley. Soft carbonation. Same cloudy orange brown colour.
3.5 Hoppy aroma has a strong fruity overtone, mainly pear with some apple and a hint of banana. Pours a nice dark chestnut with a fairly thick, if not persistent, dirty buff head. Flavor is fairly hoppy, rather fruity, not at all bitter but not sweet. Texture is firm and leaves a nice woody and resiny hop finish, though it lacks fizz. I’m glad that I caught one more of this series.
3.4 Pours brown to amber cloudy color with an medium head. Aroma is malt, pear, a little bit of pine. Taste is a bit dry, pine with a fruity aftertaste and a fast passing bitterness. It lacks a bit of a body but it isn’t a bad IPA. Just nothing that special (comparing to the other Single Hop beers from Mikkeller).
3.1 Hazed and speckled amber with a thin white head. Aroma is bready and floral with floral hops and caramel. The malt bill on this one overpowers the average hop profile. Kinda bland with floral hops, caramel, stalky notes and a moderate to high bitter finish.
3.6 Bottle. Hazy amber pour with some particles and small offwhite head. Malty aroma with notes of yeast. Taste has citrus and bitterness.
Imprescindible repetir.
3.6 66 theoretical IBU. Pours a hazy dark copper from the bottle with thick off-white head that leaves good lace. Aroma is malty sweetness, caramel and pils, slight floral notes on the back end. Taste follows, nice balance, but the hops have definitely fallen off. Easy to drink, good carbonation, slight bitterness. Definitely not fresh, but interesting concept.
3.5 Nice looking beer dark amber and cloudy with perfect head. Aroma is lite with citrus and tropical fruit notes. Nice smooth easy drinker that has a touch of bitterness in the finsh.
1.1 I was looking forward to Trying Mikkeler, since it gets so many praises of being good and innovative brewer. I was excited to find It’s Hop Series at a reasonable price. Unfortunately my anticipation and excitement was not matched by high standards that everyone praises Mikkeller to live by. Everyone in supply chain is to blame… Mikkeller does not have production dates, Distributor Trying to sell the product no matter what, Binny’s not having balls to stand up to its supplier and let them know that it is out of date and no good. I was pissed… All of them were old and stale, therefore complete waste of time and money. Every time I come across bad batch I swear to stop buying anything that has no dates… I just might do that, since there are plenty of other choices… Going Back to Mikkeller Hop Series… All of them Poured A Shade Lighter Or A Shade Darker of Muddy Brown. All of them Had Smaller or Larger Floaters. Huge Head, Decent Lacing. Earthy, Stale Hops Aroma. Tasted pretty much the same: Earthy, Malt, Stale Hops. Moderate Bitter Finish… Pass It Unless You Know It Is Fresh…
3.5 Bottle from Vino Wines. Murky amber body with tiny yeast flecks floating around. Massive off-white head. Light carbonation. Excellent lacing. Mild aroma and flavour of pear, blackcurrant and boiled cabbage. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft, almost flat carbonation. One of the weaker efforts of the Mikkeller Hop Series.
3.4 Faint hoppy aroma, some bready malts. Lovely dark body with off white head and lacing. Taste is between a 6 and 7 I’d say. Initially kind of grape sweet, with a bit of alcohol. Not a fresh bottle, but not extremely impressive, but still a pretty nice IPA.
3.3 Think I’ve got another single hop past prime. Served with a large, foamy, frothy, cream-colored-to-light tan, long lasting head and plenty of lace. Color is a hazy/cloudy dark amber. Aroma is stale hop, malt, caramel, oak. Flavor’s like nose, stale hop bitter up front , fairly dry, then carbonic tang. Body/carbonation are perfect. Finish is like flavor, long, hint of alcohol. I believe these single hop beers really need to be somewhat fresh.
3.7 Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. A hazy orange-brown coloured beer that pours with a creamy white head. It has summer fruit flavours, peppery hop notes and a creamy orange fruity finish.
2.8 Bottle from Brewdog shop. Dark amber color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, ripe fruits, a bit of caramel, pine and metallic aroma. Bitter finish with citrus and pine. Not particularly good, the skunky feeling sticks out.
3.2 330 ml bottle. Pours a dark amber colour with a white foamy head. Aroma of herbs, gooseberry bush and some sweetness. Flavour of herbal hops, floral notes, pine, grass and red berries. Medium bodied, a bit rough mouthfeel and high carbonation. Finishes dry, bitter and rough. Unbalanced.
3.5 Pours an amber color, some yeast chunks, good foam.light lace. Aroma of a toffee, raison, kinda sweet,toasty/light roast, grainy maybe. Mostly a sweet brown sugar-raison kind of aroma. Taste is much the same as aroma, figgy, medium sweet raison/toffee,has some dry toastyness. Kind of a citrus beneath the burnt carmelly tones A little pine in the bitter.. Dont know how aged this beer is and if im not just getting all malt or not. Its decent though. Probably not a fair shot at judging cluster hops if its not a fresh beer.
4.0 This was really good. Copper pour with a small white head. Aromas of floral and citrus hops with some nice malt notes as well. Flavor has lots of dried fruit notes and citrus peel. Very well balanced.
3.7 Feels like drinking a bit of history - the cascade of yesteryear. It’s smooth and fruity but not too bitter or citrusy. Clearly noble-ish hops. As always, a good beer from Mikkeller.
3.7 Pours a dark orange beer with a good white head. Smells fruity. Tastes malts fruity with a nice bitter finish. Good average carbo, thin body and a watery texture.
3.4 33 cl bottle. Pours hazy dark orange color with a huge frothy head. Aroma of hops, pine needles, fruits and caramel. Flavor of grape fruits, goose berries, some sticky sweet caramel and resin. A bit too sweet but otherwise decent. 4414
3.4 Draft.
3.1 33cl bottle @ home; from Geers Oostakker; side-by-side tasting with 4 others; pours hazy orange with a big white head; low carbo; smell is wood, some fruityness; taste is bitter, dry, some acidity as well, oily. Not the best I had, but still decent.
3.6 from Erzbierschof - hazy amber-orange beer under a persistent beige foam; nice lacework; the aroma is fairly spicy with some earthy notes; a good malt backbone, pretty astringent and bitter; long spicy hoppiness, notes of pine needles; very dry
3.3 Ambrata buina schiuma piuttosto persistente radice terroso erbaceo caramello non troppo amaro radice erbe
3.5 Bottle from Beer Cartel. Murky brown/amber, strong cut grass, earthy/spicy, dusty/woody, strong bitterness, quite resiney, mild floral notes, some malt sweetness, but hop bitterness dominates. Quite good.
