Mikkeller Hop Series Nugget

Mikkeller Hop Series Nugget

This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

3.3 bottle at home ... copper ... bubbly white head ... soft sweet oily toffee fruit nose ... sot sweet malts .. light toffee spice ... soft oily bitter citrus peels
3.5 A very fruity hop, to my surprise, and a bit herbal. Taste has moderate bitterness, but simple perhaps. Base beer is very well developed and nicely clean. Good start of a Hop Series tasting session. (33cl bottle from Dranken Geers)
3.7 Poured into a snifter at cheese shop. Dark amber look. Light head, floral hoppy aroma. Nice smooth flow. Delish!!
3.7 330ml bottle at home. Appears hazy dark amber in the glass with a loose yellowy-tinged white head that laces well. Aroma has hoppy fruity elements with tangerines, pineapple, and pine-needles to the fore on top of a toasty caramel malt bill. Taste is dry and earthy with a mild sweetness and medium herbal hop bitterness that lingers. Good balance of malt and hop with pleasant smooth mouthfeel and medium body.
3.3 Bottel from Erzbierschof - Hazy amber color, thick off-white head, good lace - aroma of pine, caramel anf hints of apricot - pine, resinous, caramel malt flavor - medium body, good carboanation, long dry bitter finish - this one appear to be more bitter than the firsts i’ve tried in this serie. Good but i’m not fan of this hops
3.6 Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. A hazy orange beer with rich orange marmalade and red fruity flavours, bitter woody notes and a sweetness on the finish.
3.8 Pours a hazy copper with fair off white head leaving some lace up the glass. Aroma is earthy, moderate sweet tropical fruits, slightly herbal and caramel malts and an overall good malty backbone. Flavour is earthy, pine, grapefruit, mild sweetness, low-medium bitterness that does linger a while, some herbal notes as well as a good malty caramel backbone.
3.5 Draft.
3.7 Aroma of raisins and an earthiness. Pours a cloudy copper with a one finger large bubble, mostly diminishing, off- white head and moderate lacing. The taste is moderately bitter. Floral, raisins, hay, and an earthiness. Crisp dry finish. Medium-light body and crisp carbonation. A lingering hopp /fruity aftertaste. Overall, I liked this beer. (Judging from the other ratings, it’s like persimmons…either you like them or you don’t.) Would drink again.
3.5 Bottle from Beer Cartel. Hazy orange/amber, bit of tropical fruit, apricot/peach, pine, grassy, quite dry finish. Not bad.
3.7 330 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy copper amber colour with a large frothy white head. Aroma of green tea, resin and peach. Flavour of strong tangy grassy bitterness, resin, peach, grapefrui, pine needlest and some biscuity maltiness. Medium bodied, slick mouthfeel and a warming, bitter, biscuity finish. Nice and refreshing.
3.6 Deep copper with a big off-white head. Lots of lacing. Aroma of caramel, tropical fruit, and grass. Taste is herbal and malty with slight citrus bitterness. Medium bodied; just a touch dry.
3.2 On tap at Beer Temple. Hazy orange colour, white head. Aroma of fruits, malts, grass, light pine. Flavour is fruity, malty, light caramel, grassy and light herbal bitter finish. Light-bodied.
3.2 From tap at Beer Temple. Pours hazy orange with a medium off-white head. Bit more herbal than the magnum, some grassy hops, malty, lavender. Again herbal, grassy some malts, medium bitter finish.
2.9 Nugget is not really a hop that is tasteful enough to support a beer. Only the grassy bitter hop taste comes through. Further a quite flat and watery beer.
3.5 Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass golden-copper coloured, nice head. Modest soapy aroma. Starts dry-hoppy, a bit wheaty, fine spicy. Some salty hints. Finish drier, still a bit soapy. Okay.
4.0 from Erzbierschof - pretty clear dark orange beer with a poor head retention; aroma of tea and horse stable; a good malt backbone, light sweetness, assertive and solidly bitter; dry and long aftertaste of tea, herbs, almonds and an increasing never ending bitterness - very interesting
3.5 Keg at The Southern. Pours a hazy amber with thin white head. Resin and caramel aromas. Taste is well-balanced between sweet and bitter. Palate a little thin, but good carbonation. Not bad.
4.1 Very cloudy copper with a frothy, dirty head. Sticky, lace blankets the glass. The aroma is earthy bitterness with a strong malt backbone, and though the hops dominate, it is balanced. Smooth fruity bitterness with a strong maltiness characterize the flavor, though the beer is definitely hop forward. Strong but still smooth.
3.3 Draught@CPH BF 2011. Slightly hazy amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is wood, resin, grass and some sweet malts to balance it up. Flavour is peach, citrus and soem toffee.
3.6 Poiurs hazy orange with a creamy white head. Aroma of malt, careamel, fruity, light citrus. Flavour is malt, caramel, peach, citrus, light pine. Medium body, average carbonation, ends fairly bitter.
2.9 Bottle at home. Pours a golden amber colour with a sand-coloured medium head. Aroma of fruity and herbal hops with grapefruit and resin. Very powerful hops in the flavour, feels very grassy and there’s also resin and lots of bitter grapefruits.Sweet and fruity at first but the hops are very dominating in the aftertaste. Slick and soft mouth feel, and a heavy lingering bitterness. Starts well but the heavy bitterness makes the beer a bit unbalanced in my opinion.
2.7 Cloudy dark golden liquid with a medium offwhite head. Pretty sweet aroma with some citrus notes. Taste is more grassy, with alot of malty sweetness. Nothing special though.
3.4 33cl Bottle. Blind tasting of all 19 Mikkeller Hop Series beers. Shared with Mathieu87. Appearance: amber beer, stable white head. Nose: rather sweet, some peppers maybe. Taste: nice sweet aftertaste, followed by a bitterness.
4.2 Sampled as part of a hop education class. Much more spicy in taste than Bravo or Williamette. Not as smooth as the Nugget. The spicy note appears to be ginger and pepper. As a beer, not as good as B, but maybe a tick better than W.
3.6 Color: clear amber beer with some particles, high carbonation and medium white head. Smell: hops, floral noise, grass, caramel and sugar. Taste: strong hops taste with caramel and sugar. Aftertaste: nice bitterness complexity, with grass taste.
3.5 Fra flaske på Humle i Annen mars-13: fjerde av i alt 19 i serien, og i likhet med Warrior opplevdes denne som mild for sine 90 IBU. Stikkord var foirsiktig, finesse, deilig blomsteraroma.
3.5 Nose is pineapple, lemon. Taste is Haribo winegum, some malt. (From tasting of all Hop series Cardinal 11. March)
3.7 Appearance: Cloudy deep dark orange color with a smal off white head. Ok lacing. Aroma: Grape hoppy and light fruity. Palate: Medium body. Moderate sweet and a fine bitterness. Average carbonation. Taste: Typical grape hoppy and fruity, with a solid malty background. Overall impression: Not to different to the others in this series. Personal stats: On tap at Crowbar & Bryggeri in Oslo, Norway.
3.7 Richmond 19th. Medium orange, baked grapefruit aroma, Flavor matches. OK. I would guess that this was a bit past its peak.
