Mikkeller Hop Series Warrior

Mikkeller Hop Series Warrior

This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

3.4 Chunky dead yeast suspended in a copper sea with a large tan head. Aroma of citrus, pine, tropical fruit and toasted pale malts. Taste is bland with malt, vegetal notes, some citrus and finishes dry and bitter.
3.4 Bottle from Asahiya. Lots of caramel in the aroma, also some dirt or fertilizer. Amber color. The basic flavor is caramel throughout with a slightly stinging hoppiness. Medium-heavy body, with the hops as a texture. Tasty and substantial. The earthy notes are a bit much.
3.2 Location: 11.2 oz bottle from Central Market, 11/6/13 Aroma: The nose is overripe fruit, some light grass, and a fairly large malt caramel malt backbone Appearance: A cloudy reddish-orange color with a sheety foam of beige head and mid-heavy lace Flavor: The flavor is a sweet/over ripened fruit, with a caramel malt, and a late bitterness Palate: The body is medium-plus, it is creamy on the mouth, and has a long, dry finish Overall Impression: It feels as though this one may be a bit past it’s prime (no date, but it was purchased this week). I didn’t love this one, but it is okay. I’d be curious to see if it would be significantly different we’re it fresher.
2.1 Bottle. Hazy orange, unfiltered body. Big frothy head. Past its prime. A premium international price is unacceptable if your beer quickly deteriorates and smells like buttery malt trash. Great appearance..that’s about it.
3.5 Bottle 6.8% abv. Pour darks orange brown with thin creamy head. Aroma a bit pissy and sour. Taste is bitter (115 ibu) with noticeable alcohol and fruits. Not bad but not the best in this series.
3.4 9/4/13draft @ hoppy loft ( i typed in mikkeller warrior, i hope im rating the right one ? ) pours very light , clear amber . almost no head smell is very earthy / vergetative herbs and bitter . meh .. edit 4/15/2016 Drank side by side with the 19 other variants of the serie. I would like to note up front that - since these beer’s are no longer in production, they were not fresh. this rating should thus be viewed with that in mind, and can shed a light on the ’ageing’ differences between the variants. They were probably better fresh... Pours rather clear, dark amber, small white foam. Smell is very , very dusty. comparable age, but far worse than the other versions. Taste is sharp, bitter, not too much aroma left. Just bitter and dusty. I can’t believe it, this is the third beer in a row I gave the exact same score on the 20-IPA tasting ( out of date) as when I had them fresh ( well, honestly, i was 0.1 off on the willamette version ) . They change, but the difference in personal preference remains, I seem to learn.
2.7 Keg, BrewDog Brum, 21/08/13. Ominous, almost ruby looks thinly collared with vanilla. Buttered peach aroma with a stroke of labrador. No, no, no, no...another sickly, boozy, peachy, throat sweet-flavoured IPA in the US style. Tastes exactly like Lipton peach iced tea. Alcohol strongly apparent, hops smothered by honey and malt. Poor by Mikkeller’s standards.
3.5 Dominate floral aroma with a suggestions of dark fruit and citrus. Pours a cloudy copper with a medium, none lasting, tan head and minimal lacing. The taste follows the nose. Floral, bread, grain, dark fruit, citrus, and a hop bitterness in the finish that sort of creeps up on you. Not overpowering. Medium body with medium carbonation. Mouthfeel is smooth with just tiniest bit of crispness/bitterness thrown in. Overall, quit enjoyable. Would drink again.
4.1 Keg at Brewdog Brum. Wow! Expected not too much. Was feeling a bit wary of single hop IPAs. Shouldn’t have worried: this is tart, bitter and packed with taste. Not sure I’ve encountered this hop very much, but on this evidence it’s great.
3.4 330ml bottle as part of a 5 bottle tasting. Another citrussy hop with pineapple and a hint of caramel, allowing a dry and sharp bitterness to come in on the finish.
3.9 Burnt orange pour. White head. Aroma is hoppy, light caramel, dank wood aromas. Quite bitter on the tongue. Citrus hops. Strong aroma of citrus and yeast. The flavor has a strong citrus hop bite to it along with a decent underlying maltiness and a dry, bitter edge in the finish. Pretty good overall.
3.5 Ambrata buona schiuma buona persistenze agrumata piney resina bel amaro secco
3.5 Dark copper-amber-caramel colored with a fluffy off-white head and heavy lacing. Somewhat mild aroma of caramel and grass. Malty and a little bitter and fruity. Medium bodied.
3.8 from Erzbierschof - cloudy dark orange beer under a long lasting beige foam; fresh fruity hoppiness where pineapples dominate; a good malt body, pretty tasty and with a quite astringent bitterness; long fruity hoppy finish
3.3 hazy amber, large off-white head with very long retention and spotty lacing. biscuit, citrus, spruce, cooked vegetables. reminds me of boiled artichokes for some reason. medium bitter, light sweet, very slight tart. medium body, slick feel.
3.4 Deep malty color. Some sediment. Frothy head lasts indefinitely.Aroma is floral and bitter. Taste is light citrus and medium bitterness but a strong malt backbone fights for attention.
3.8 Murky orange amber colour with great head and lacing. Hoppy malt spice aroma. Floral malt spicy thick flavour. Smooth palate.
3.5 Color: nice clear amber beer with small carbonation, small particles and medium white foam. Smell: hops, caramel, grass, spices. Taste: strong hops taste with nice bitterness and caramel, and peanuts. Aftertaste: nice bitterness. ----- Bottle from new batch from Saveur-Biere.com - Color: hazy amber beer with small carbonation and small white foam. Smell: citrus, grassy, lemon and hoppy. Nice bouquet. Taste: nice citrus taste with grassy notes. Resin and caramel finish. Well balanced. Aftertaste: caramel, resin, small alcohol finish and dry bitterness.
3.2 33cl Bottle. Blind tasting of all 19 Mikkeller Hop Series beers. Shared with Mathieu87. Appearance: amber beer, stable white head. Nose: rather strong bitterness, little fruit. Taste: a rather deep bitterness, some caramel. A little to bitter for me.
4.1 Sampled as part of a hop education class. Williamette on steroids. Stronger, and more bitter. Has the same solid body as W. Perhaps more earthy, and a very very subtle chocolate linger.
3.4 Fra flaske på Humle i Annen mars-13: tredje av i alt 19 i serien, og denne nikket mange anerkjennende til. Mild til å værre hele 115 IBU. Frisk og god med grapefrukt som hovedinntrykk.
3.5 Nose is mold, mature apple. Taste is green apple and licorice. (From tasting of all Hop series Cardinal 11. March)
3.5 Bottle, december 28th 2012. Amber hazy body, nice tidy medium white head crowning it. Aroma is all about the hop, grassy, with citrus, peach and pine. Refreshing. Taste follows the same pattern, combined with a caramel taste and a slightly sweet offtaste. Bitterness good as expected from the warrior, finish is fruity, again peach, some pine, and lots of caramel.
3.7 Appearance: Hazy deep orange golden color with a thick off white head. Nice lacing. Aroma: Deep fruity and rich hoppy. Palate: Medium pluss body. Moderate sweet and a rich bitterness. Average carbonation. Taste: Rich hoppy and fruity on a solid malt background. Overall impression: A really nice and fresh IPA. Personal stats: Bottle from Vinmonopolet Oslo - Vika in Oslo, Norway.
3.5 Bottle. Pours dark, hazy amber with average, creamy off-white head; short retention and some lacing. Aroma is cereal and cookie malt, floral hops, raisins, light fig, and light caramel. Flavor is caramel and dough forward with good floral hops and additional notes of pine and dark fruit; dry, hoppy finish. Medium body and low carbonation.
3.8 Bottle from mane liquor. Dark brown pour with a thick off white head. Pine and caramel upfront in the aroma. Citrus and grapefruit in there too. Taste is piney hops and more caramel. Easy on the palate. Another good ipa.
3.5 Bottled. Orange colour with a nice off-white/beige head, good lacing. Aroma has floral hops notes, caramel notes are also present. Flavor has hints of honey, caramel, slightly citrus and herbal. Bittery final with a good presence, average duration.
3.3 11th July 2011 hazy darkish amber beer, good off white head. Softish dry palate. Creamy malt. Like Nugget this hops seems to impart more bitterness than fruit. There is a trace of orange and tangerine. Finishes semi dry.
2.0 330ml bottle @Cimmeria. Some DMS aromas, boiled vegetables. Pours cloudy, dark orange, wit frothy off-white head, some persistance and lacing. Medium body, a bit crispy, avergae carbpnation. Taste is herbal, a bit off, bitterness present up to the aftertaste. Not so enjoyable.
3.8 medium dark orange amber colour, medium head. smells like hops obviously warrior hops!..malt and a little hint of fruit. Ditto on the taste factor, quite a bitter finish.
