Mikkeller It's Alive!

Mikkeller It's Alive!

Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

It’s Alive! is Mikkellers answer and tribute to the trappist beer Orval. It’s Alive is an easy-to-drink beer, with a lot of hops. The color is amber, the foam is high, white and dense. The potent Brettanomyces culture makes It’s Alive continue to develop in the bottle.

Ingredients :
Water, malt (pale and cara), light candy, hops (hallertauer and styrian goldings), yeast and brettanomyces.

3.6 Def a slight sour to the ale. dark yellow and slight bubbly. Some honey and bitter berries. Bottle.
3.7 Bottle. Aroma is brett, funk, spices. Taste is belgian yeast, bread, caramel.
3.9 Hazy light brown/orange. Thin lacy head. Caramel aroma with just a hint of funk, a real 'dark' funk though. Caramel malt taste to start then lots of yeast, finishing desticntly Belgian. Creamy almost and completely fills the mouth. Sourness makes it easy to keep drinking though, not too overwhelming.
3.4 Bottle 33cl from Mikkeller Christmas calendar. Pours clear copper, white head. Sweet, Belgian yeast, spices, brett aroma. Floral, spicy, brett, dry flavour.

Taste smooth thick fruity feel, apricot, apples, bitterish and sour perfect match of brett, long finish Belgian feel, medium bitterness, medium sweetness, full body, thick feel, lively, long finish, Really good!
3.5 Brett aroma with fruits. Amber color with white head. Fruits, malts, bitterness in flavor. Medium body, smooth, medium carbonation. Easy to drink.
3.9 Mikkeller It's Alive, Belgian Wild Ale, 8.0 %ABV. Bottle bought in Pivoljub, best before 17.08.2022 XD Disclaimer - If this beer was judged according to ratebeer.com and BJCP2015 guidelines (Belgian Golden Strong Ale (25C)), the points would be quite low due to Brett "infection". That's why I would preferr to add in a subcategory from American Wild ales - 28A - Brett Beer (even though the beer is not American). Aroma - Aroma is very complex and starts slightly soury, reminiscent of cherries or even a cherry brandy. Then enters the Brett with all of their funk that gives off scents of hay and horse stable, mixed with sweet malty and candy sugar notes. Underneath the funk you can also discern the spicy, peppery nature of Belgian yeast-induced phenols and some minor notes of earthy hoppyness. (11/12) Appearance: Orange, copper-like colour, clear. Dense off-white head with very good retention time. (3/3) Flavor: Starts with a fruity taste that also includes some soury notes. Somewhere in the middle the earthy bitterness from hops starts to show and lasts well into the finish. The last come the funky notes from brett like hay and damp horse, but are less prominent than those in the aroma. The finish is more or less dry. (16/20) Mouthfeel: Medium to light body, high carbonation and moderately efferviscent character. Only slight warmth is felt from the alcohol. (4/5) Overall impression: Interesting beer, an Orval clone. Tasty but not my preferred style of beer (not a brett fan, yet). I slightly miss the sweetness in the taste. (7/10) Score: 41 - Excellent - read the disclaimer

3.1 Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Ciężkie, słodkie, lekko apteczne, pozostawiające specyficzny posmak, kojarzący mi się z wizytą u dentysty.

3.8 Bottle from fridge, maybe 8 yrs old? Clear deep copper with a minimal cream colored head. The aroma is spicy, flowery, sweet and fragrant. The flavor is softly bitter and dry with a finish that mirrors the flowery fragrance of the aroma. Nice beer.

3.8 Head to head vs. USAlive: Pours copper/amber, slightly clear, with high carbonation and long lasting off-white/beige creamy/foamy head. Aroma: grape (bretta), with floral, slightly citrusy, spicy notes of hops. Flavor: the same as aroma, supported with crisp, bread like malt note with just hint of candy. There are also fruity esters. Finish is dry, slightly bitter. Body is medium, texture is almost creamy soft, carbonation is medium. The winer in brothers duel.
