Mikkeller Mastodon Mother Puncher

Mikkeller Mastodon Mother Puncher

With help from our buddy Brann Dailor from the metal band Mastodon, we are releasing Mother Puncher this Tuesday. Mastodon Mother Puncher is a farmhouse IPA, which basically means its packed with tons of funky flavors from the brettanomyces (used in brewing to heighten sensory reflexes) and mashed up with sweet and tart notes from passion fruit creating a deliciously funky IPA. For the release on Tuesday, we’ll have the band and the beer at Warpigs, so if you’re in Copenhagen, come by and check it out, starts at 5pm.

3.6 Small can from Uba ja Humal (€ 6ish). BB 05.09.2018. Pretty nice, not the kind of IPA I enjoy most but still good. Very much passion and apple skin, kinda funky-dusty.
3.7 33cl can at home. Pours a slight hazy orange amber colour with a medium creamy white head. Aroma of passion fruit, brett, funk, peach, stone fruit, apricot, tart, soap. Taste is medium sweet, moderate bitter with a medium dry finish. Notes of passion fruit, slight malt, peach, funk, slight acidity. Texture is oily to watery, light bodied with moderate carbonation
3.6 Can @ home. Orange colour with a medium sized white head. It's quite sour for an ipa. Also the hops are overpowered by the passion fruit I think. It's not a bad beer, but as an ipa it's very meh imo. Medium body, nice carbo.
3.6 33cl can at home, bought at Jumbo de Beren. Appearance: hazy straw with medium sized white head. Aroma: brett, citrus, passion fruit, artific strawberry, bubblegum. Quite funky. Taste: medium sweetness, high bitterness and moderate tartness. Notes of passionfruit, lemon, hop bitters, some artificial notes as well. Palate: medium bodied, watery texture and lively carbonation. Quite interesting, but somewhat artificial imo.
4.0 Virkelig underlig type. Farmhouse slags. Den smager lidt af de frugter der er i. Fin øl.
3.4 330ml can. Pours clear orange with a slight haze/sediment, small off-white head, dissipating quickly. Weak aroma, passionfruit, light funk. Taste of tart passionfruit, funk, bretty, citrusy, zesty orange, bitter finish. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.1 Bottle from Pivný raj Bit sour, but still very refreshing ale even though the sourness was not anything expected. Would vote for it in summer for sure.
2.6 330ml can (Sip, Tallinn) (6:3:5:2:10=2.6) Total brett overload aroma, some passion fruit juice. Gold, brief fizzy head. Dirty bretty taste, some earthiness and dust, some fruit juice. Unbalanced. Sharp palate, a bit sticky, dirty. Finish fruity and tart, dirty, but late finish has some nice full bitter hops. Best when it's not in your mouth is the message to take away from this.
3.4 33 cl can @ home. Pours slightly cloudy golden with a white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma and flavour are citrus, passionfruit, and brett - with a slightly tart finish.
3.8 Bottle at home oranges pour two finger head. Nose is lovely passion fruit and bretty yeast. Taste of hops, passion fruit, brett, barnyard funk, lemon, grassy. Pretty good.
3.5 Hazy golden color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of yeast, floral, & fruit/citrus; Flavor of malt, yeast/brett, citrus peel, hops, and fruit; Finish is somewhat sour/tart; Decent.
3.6 Can 0.33l from Mikkeller Advent Calendar 2017. Thanks zeno for this amazing gift. Taste at Amsterdam, The Netherlands. 22.12.2017. Pour it orange color with medium white head. Aroma of peach, tropical fruits anf yeast. Taste sweet sticky orangel peel, passion fruit, citrus, slight herbal on the back, earthy, medium bitterness, light to medium body, slick feel, lively, astringent and bitter finish.
3.0 Can (from Sip). Straight from the can, but tasted yellow. Aroma is fruity, citrus, mango. Flavor is sweet, fruits, passion, mango. Overall: drinkable lemonade, but where's the beer?!
3.4 Blond colour with thin lacy head. Aroma and flavour have fruity hop notes. Very tart and citric with a funky and bitter finish.
3.3 Pours deep gold into a tulip. Bright white head with excellent retention recedes leaving sheet lacing. Sour melon, funk and passionfruit aromas. Soft with overripe melon and pit fruit upfront turning to turned citrus peel and pith finish.
3.8 Draught at Mikkeller Bar San Francisco. Pours hazy orange with a medium, creamy white head, long retention with excellent lacing. Heavy guava, papaya, light hop bitterness, funky farmhouse Brettanomyces, dusty with medium cereal malt, tart passion fruit and a dry finish. Medium-light body and medium carbonation.
3.7 Marakuja to jeden z moich ulubionych owocow, wiec piwo juz na starcie ma plus. Przyjemny owocowy aromat, umiarkowana goryczka. Fajne.
4.2 On draft at Mikkeller Bar SF Aroma 7/10: heavy funky brett aroma with faint passion fruit Appearance 4/5: medium amber with big bubbly head that dissipates quickly Palate 4 /5: effervescent bubbly mouthfeel. Robust palate with big flavors. Taste 9/10: passion fruit is heavy up front, the brett is faintly present throughout. Finishes with a funky, almost wheaty, dry champagne like finish. Overall 18/20: has a foedre like quality. Faintly tart, very fruity, moderately funky. Very balanced - no one flavor dominates. This beer grows on you ask you drink it; a splash is not enough to appreciate the complexities. Final: 4.2
3.8 Can. Pours a hazed gold with a medium sized white head. Soft citrus and passion fruit on the nose, Brett and musk. Medium bodied, soft and faintly tangy. Gentle touches of passion fruit acidity and a tangy bite.
3.3 Pours an almost clear yellow golden colour with minimal head. Aroma has wet hops and tropical sour notes. Taste is a little light but also has the sourish notes and I don’t get too much farmhouse funk just get the sour. A little perfumy too. Light hoppy aftertaste.
3.5 Can 33 cl from Mikkeller Christmas calendar. Pours clear copper, small white head. Passionfruit, earthy, pineapple, citrus in the aroma. Earthy, passion fruit, bitter, citrus, herbal flavour.
3.4 Bevuta in bottiglia. Colore dorato bella schiuma. Al naso limone, cedro, pompelmo, frutto della passione. In bocca leggera dolcezza, decisamente aspra. Facile beva, dissetante.
3.4 Can. 6.6%. Best before 28.06.18. Pours a hazy, deep yellow/pale orange, with a diminishing, off-white/yellowish head. Sloppy lacing. Fruity, funky hop aroma. Lemony sour note and a dusty hint. Brett. Flavour is a bit sour, dry, with fruit, lemon. Hint of brett. Dry, lemon sour finish. Hint of (passion?) fruit. Mild to medium bitterness. Lingering light grassy and green apple notes. Overall fairly good. Not particularly passion fruit-y though. 09.12.17.
2.9 Golden. Aroma is slightly stinky clothes, slight lemon, slight tropic fruit, some lambic type yeast. Ok. Taste is sour and bitter lime juice. Like lots of lime pips. Medium drinkable. A bit harsh and not soothing. Ok.
2.3 (can) hazy golden colour with a frothy white head. aroma of gherkin juice and pretzel sticks, slightly off, with a touch of dill and burnt bread. aroma of straw and herbal hops, rather phenolic, with no passion fruit, some very light banana and a rather ethanolic-tannic finish. medium- to heavy-bodied with average carbonation.
3.4 Can. Hazy golden, white low lace. Sweet passion fruit, swedish spices, a bit muggy, a hint Brett. Medium light body, dry, light wheaty. Fermented fruit, light tackle/brett, cheesecake, citrus retroansal. Pleasant tropical finish.
3.4 Can. Slightly hazy golden color with white head. Aroma is passion fruit, biscuity malts, some tart fresh yeasts, gurkin water. Taste is passion fruit, biscuity malts, dry finish. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Interesting!
3.9 330ml bottle bought at YATA in YoHo Mall, Yuen Long. Looks: Clear dull golden honey with a faint trace of dirt-like yeast sedimentsThree-quarter finger head and soapy white foam which lasts for 1 minute; Very good sticky lacing with notable small carbonation. Aroma: Very fragrant Ale malt, with very strong passion fruits, very strong peaches, yellow fruits, floral, strong Brett funk, fructose, spices, earth, biscuits, lemon and grass. Taste: Close to light sweet Ale malt, with strong passion fruits, strong lacto sourness, light malt vinegar, very strong Brett funk, floral, hint of molasses, spices, dry biscuits, lemon and mid to strong grassy hops. Body: Medium body. Slick palate. Mouth Feel: Good Ale maltyness in a smooth background. Equally strong real passion fruits and Brett funkiness dominate with immense spicy fruitness, coupled with strong lacto-tartness and a good touch of vinaigrette. Slightly flowery with very low sweetness, dry biscuity with lemon to round. This is way cool! Hoppiness: Peaches, yellow fruits, floral, spices, earth, lemon and grass in nose. Floral, spices, lemon grassy in taste; Bitterness is fairly strong for a lasting, medium astringent lacto sour malty finish. After Taste: Dry. Very funky fruity and fairly bitter to mouth. Comments: I can feel a massive dose of Brett and passion fruits went into the brew, and the result is impressively real fruity, funky with smart tartness and Sour-Ale like vinegar. This is a well-made IPA, fruit beer, and sour ale all rolled into one. Great stuff!
3.5 33cl bottle at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours golden, medium transparency, with limited white foam. Aroma is spiced fruity, Brett. Body is medium-dense with moderate but tickling carbonation. Taste is medium sweet, some sour. Finish is medium-long.
