Mikkeller Monks Brew (Barrel Aged Bourbon Edition)

Mikkeller Monks Brew (Barrel Aged Bourbon Edition)

Quadrupel barrel aged on Bourbon barrels. Nice malty taste with notes of dark chocolate and dark fruits. The barrel aging gives a nice warmth from the alcohol as well as a nice aroma of vanilla.

3.8 Bottle. Brown pour with tan head. Bourbon and spice aromas, some dark fruit tones. Nice spice, dark fruit and a touch of oak and light bourbon.
3.1 Bottle at home. Pours deep brown, vanilla and apple on nose. Vanilla taste, dry, little thin.
3.9 Not a bad one. The alcohol is there in taste, a bit of sweetness, very little foam, but all in all a good beer. Mikeller knows how to make a good beer in every style there is.
3.4 Dark, translucent body with cask-style carbonation for quickly dissipating, thick foam. Aroma of molasses, roasted malts and chocolate / coffee and a faint whiff of alcohol. Flavour is very partial to the sweet side which makes it a sippin’ brew. In mouth, this beverage is strong and pervasively sweet.
3.9 Lots os sweet dried fruits and chocolate with some vanilla. The alcohol hits straight up and the aftertaste is very reminiscent of whiskey. Strong stuff. Very impressive.
4.1 Bottle. Murky dark brown, small cappuccino coloured head with medium lacing. The alcohol is immediately apparent, followed by burnt molasses, dark chocolate, vanilla and pepper berries. Complex, rich and well balanced flavours of chocolate, alcohol, bourbon, vanilla, oak, honey and a slightly spicy hop finish which cleans up the richness of the beer.
4.1 375ml bottle shared in a Trappist glass. Pours a thick, cloudy, dark brown colour with a very short lived bubbly beige head. Aroma is bourbon, oak, prunes, dates and more bourbon. Taste is more of the same. Dark fruits, treacly flavours with a huge bourbon barrel backdrop. Mouthfeel is perfect and perfectly complements the rich nature of this (monk’s) brew.
3.8 "Thick brown pour. Aroma dominated by bourbon. Sweet, with a hint of yeast. Pretty boozy, but oh so tasty. This must have spent a long time in barrels. Not as complex as the base beer, but pretty stinking good."
3.6 Pours a dark bourbon color with a thick, well-retaining, dark tan head. Prune and brown sugar. Full body with a quite a bit of a burning scrub. Brown sugar, mild prune, and some notes of champagne at the finish.
3.4 Bottle. Dark brown colour, small tan head. Aroma is fruity, vanilla, woody, toffee. The flavor is sweet with vanilla, raisins, prunes, sweet malt. A bit rough to be honest; disappointing.
3.6 bottle pour from the beergeek stall at slunce ve skle 2013. murky brown with a reddish tinge and minimal head; aroma of caramel and vanilla; plenty of bourbon showing, warming alcohol, dried fruits
3.6 Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is sweet fruit, bourbon and vanilla. Taste follows nose plus a sweetness, toffe, caramel. Thin palate with lively carbonation. Very nice.
3.3 Shared with Wim at his place. Light brown colored beer with small white head and only few carbonation. Malty slight fruited aroma. Full sparkling palate. Finish is sweet bitter hopped and alcoholic hinted.
3.8 Pours brown with a lot of yeast flakes, quickly disappearing light beige head. Heavy sweet smell, lot of bourbon aroma, some dark fruits (plums), light alcohol. Taste is sweet malts, plums, light cherries, some chocolate along with coffee and toasted notes. Bourbon is very present again.
3.8 Poirs dark brown with a very large tan head. Aromas of muscovado sugar, raisins, figs, oak, vanilla, roasted nuts. Taste is raisins, figs, muscovado sugar, vanilla, roasted malts, roasted nuts, honey. Mouthfeel is smooth with medium carbonation.
3.4 poured a dark brown with minimal head. had a nice nose of bourbon but not overpowering. a little thin for my taste and seemed like a lot of carbination. i enjoyed this would do again
4.4 Bottle. Rich bourbon aroma with notes of dark fruit and vanilla. Excellent start. Pours extremely dark caramel colored with a thin light brown head and decent lacing. Taste is sweet dark fruit with a hint of vanilla with a lively, highly carbonated mouthfeel. Finishes pretty smooth with a lot of bourbon flavor and a touch of booze. Wonderful.
3.6 Bottle@home. One finger foam. Dark brown. Intense alcoholic dark oaky vanilla fruity notes. Taste less alcoholic. Dry. Intense with some complexity.
3.3 at my home along with Yves dark brown colored body with an off white head and a dark fruit hops yeast malt aroma a dark fruit malt chocolat alcholic bitter taste with a alcholic bitter finish
3.2 Tap @ Animal Bar. Pours clear dark red with a moderate but fast diminishing beige head. Aroma is moderate sweet and malty with notes of caramel, yeast and alchool-bourbon. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet, caramel and heavy moderate to heavy alchool.
3.7 Bottle 375 ml at home, poured into a tulip glass. ABV. 10% Deep mahogany brown colour on the body, with a huge beige head sitting on top, thick, with great retention. Medium lacing on the glass. Aroma has lots of bourbon, ash, plums, black grapes, light traces of alcohol and vanilla. Taste is mildly sweet, with dark fruits up front, the bourbon more subtle, vanilla. Not very complex, at least not as much as I expected, and a bit boozy, not taste wise but you can feel the alcohol sneaking on you. Medium body, good carbonation. Good beer, requires attention.
3.8 Bottled from deciccos. Mid muddy brown pour, tannish head. Oaky vanilla, brown sugar, dark fruit and makts. Good
3.5 Bottle sample in late October. Pours a brown color with reddish highlights and a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have caramel malts, dark fruits, obvious bourbon barrel with some vanilla and wood. The alcohol comes through in the flavor a bit and is warming. Not bad, but something didn’t completely work for me with this beer.
3.9 Bottle. Dark brown, small off white head. Lots of coconut bourbon, chocolate, golden raisins. Medium/full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. The bourbon barrels work well in this and it’s not as sweet and fat as the regular version but very flavourfull, which suits my taste.
5.0 bottle shared with northropfrye. Everything super high. I love it! Perfect beer perfection! I’m getting a lot of coconut out of this, which I haven’t gotten since the Three Hour Tour Beer from Town Hall. In addition to tasting and smelling amazing it also looks beautiful. I am gushing and I don’t care. Out.
3.8 Dark reddish brown body with brown foamy head, large bubbles, some lacing. Strong bourbon aroma, milk chocolate, dried fruit, peaches, vanilla. Taste is sweet, bready, fades somewhat quickly. Abv incredibly well masked. No booziness at all. Nice unique quad.
3.8 A dark bordeaux red beer, with a nice white head, stays for a good while. The nose is light bourbon, malty, sweet, some alcohol and some yeast. It is a medium to full bodied beer, with a nice carbonation. The taste is soft and malty. In the back there is bourbon, sweet and light bitter. The aftertaste is light, mostly malt and bourbon. A nice BA if the monk, but not special.
