3.8 (Bottle) Clear red colour with lasting, frothy, pinkish head. Fruity, sourish nose with notes of cherries, almonds, red fruit, hints of cellar and barnyard. Fruity, tart taste with sour cherries, almonds, pink grapefruit and a dry and tart finish. More than medium body, really dry. Tasty, with a fresh sourness. Quite clean, and possibly lacking some of the funky complexity of the best traditional lambics. Still, very nice.
3.5 375cl. Just opened. BBE 10/05/22 aroma of an old cask, cherry bark, cherry resin and cherry blossoms. Pours clear Rosé with champagne head. Barrel numbness and dryness. Some cherry, some yeast. What is extremely addictive is the yeasty seddiment - it is gently, dry and numbing, but not extremely sour. Once its gone, you carve more, but there is none... A bitt watery, and much closer to sparkling wine than beer. Strongly carbonated. Overall: cork does not hold. Check your bottles.
3.8 From notes. Tasted in December 2012 from a capped 375mL bottle purchased at Louisville Beer Store during Zwanze Day 2012. Pours hazy dark pink with a thick pink head that leaves average lace. The nose is all about dry, bright red cherry with some added malt and plenty of lemon peel. The flavor is not terribly sour, but very dry, tons of natural cherry, and just a touch of lemon bitterness. The body is medium with some sticky tannin, average carbonation, and a long tart cherry and lightly bitter finish.
4.0 Tasted at the Triple Rock Sour and Barrel Aged Fest on 2/10/2013. This Lambic pours a medium reddish color from the bottle. Medium sized head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, tart and funky. A medium bodied lambic. The malts are fruity and sweet, tart and funky. The hops are herbal. Tart cherry flavors. Nice balance. Good acidity. Decent carbonation. Very drinkable. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is tart and a little funky.
3.5 Bright red pour with quick fading pink head. Tart and bretty cheesey kriek. Cherry fruit, but only dark and faint, not pungent or sweet at all. Not sour at all, just slightly tart and EXTREMELY dry on the palate. Nothing I would need to have again, but not bad.
3.9 Muddy red-rust, thin white head, some lace. Aroma is of cherries, light tartness, some funk. Flavour is of some cherry tartness, small acidic, some fruit sweetness. Lightly acidic mouthfeel, medium/light body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, light tartness. Pretty nice stuff.
3.8 Was expecting something much lighter and instead got this gem. Cloudy ruby body with pinkish airy head. Aroma of fruit, wood and yeast. The yeast takes over in the taste, subduing the sweet cherries to the background. Dry and tart finish.
3.5 Now this is very good. I’m not a hug fan of lambic. Spontanale was a bit too funky for me. But here the sweet, sour cherry notes work perfectly with the sharp yeast. Delicious - I begin to see why Belgian beer is so popular.
3.7 10/5/2014. From bottle. Pours reddish brown with a pinkish head. Funky yeast aromas with sour cherries. Not overly tart and the cherry flavors are nicely balances and not artificial as in some other beers in this style. Very elegant!
2.8 Tydelig surhed i duft og smag. Fornemmer kirsebær. Lidt tynd i kropoen. Lidt kedelig.
Tydelig frugt ift spontancranberry.
3.8 Bottle. Red with off white head. Notes of cherries and tartness. Sweet flavour of cherries with some tartness, but overall too sweet for me. I prefer the more tart examples.
3.9 "Probably pricey enough to be a one timer, but it was pretty damn good. Well balanced between the sour funk aroma and fruity cherry. Beautiful ruby red pour. Tingly feel. Flavor equal parts cherry and funk with just enough stinky cheese man to notice. Plenty I fruit but no sweetness. Dry, lasting sour finish."
2.9 Leicht trübes rötliches Bierm mit geringer pinken Schaumkrone. Geruch fruchtig, säuerlich, reife Kirschen. Geschmack säuerlich, leicht fruchtig, wenig Geschmack.
3.8 Bottle: Murky copper with a red glare; burnt amber edges. Mild beige & light lavender tinted head sifts softly on top. Big musty lemon, sour cherry skin, & woody oak aroma. Nice amount of funk, wet hay, corky barnyard, mild sweat. Lightest hint of vinegar behind the sour cherry & acidic lemon notes. Taste is dry & full of oak. Tannic, with a big punch of hay funk, cork, sour lemon candy, acidic cherry skin, & ripe fruit. Definitely tart, borderline puckering, leading into an exceedingly dry finish. Huge woody aftertaste with a lingering cherry skin flavor. I really seem to enjoy Mikkeller’s Spontan- lineup more than most.
(Rating #5689)
3.7 375mL bottle. Pours a cloudy pinkish red with a low airy cap that vanishes quickly. Aroma of cheese, cherry jolly rancher, grape skin. Taste is tart and sweet. Crisp and tannic. Quite effervescent. Dry finish.
3.4 Bottle thanks to Rainer. Pours a cloudy copper red. The aroma is cherry skin, hairspray, funk, oak. Medium mouthfeel with nice funk, cherry skin, with light funky finish.
3.3 Hazy ruby pour with long lasting light pink head. Nose is leather, cheese, barn, must, cherry, some pie crust, attic. Flavor is cherry, funk, blue cheese, a bit metallic, lots of funk. Dry, but waaaay undercarbed. Smelled better than it tasted, for sure.
4.0 Bottle(drinking at room temperature, damn Europe). Red ruby pour with white head. Full cherry, tart aromas. Would like to try this slightly chilled.
3.8 A pretty reserved sour beer from Mikkeller. Pours red with a pink head. Light sourness and light sweetness. Somewhat dry. Tried with Robbert and Kevin at Churchkey in DC, 2014.
3.5 Bottle. Hazy red with a large frothy pink head. Cherries, minerals, almonds, light wooden, light barnyard, phenolic. Light/medium body, oily texture, medium carbonation, medium sweet and sour. Light tannins in the finish.
3.7 Bottle, shared at the lake with Parksy, May long weekend. Blood red, with an orange-red head that leaves thick dirty sheets of lace. Low aroma of sour cherries. Tart, clean acidic sourness, more cranberry skins than cherry fruit, but no matter. Perhaps lacking complexity but very refreshing.
3.6 Good cherry with some bitterness here. Some disconnect in ingredients. Finishes bitter. Pours reddish brown with ok head and lacing. Bottle thanks to Maniac at Epic Sour Tasting.
3.5 Bottle shared at DC Annual Epic Sour Tasting, thanks maniac! Dark pinkish-red color with off-white head. Aromas of barnyard funk, band-aid, citrus, dark fruit. Tastes of tart fruit, funk. Medium-light body with a dry finish.
2.9 37,5 cl bottle Red with light pink foam. Nose of cherries, sour, brettas, grains. Light palate, good carbonation. Cherries, wild notes, sourness, grains, wheat. Ok!just expensive!
3.4 Bottled. Pours clear golden with a medium sized, lacing, white head. Aroma of vinegar, wood and barnyard notes. Sweet flavor that ends up dry and tart. Medium bodied, watery to oily text. and soft carb. A very nice and crisp Sour
3.8 Bottle at Delirium Hoppy Loft, shared with Mathieu87. APPEARANCE: clear red beer, nice stable reddish head. NOSE: sour, wood, red fruits, cherries. TASTE: sour, little flat.
