3.8 Bottle. Pours dark brown, with almost no head at all. Aroma is oak, balsamic vinegar brett, and sweet berries and cherries. Flavour is an oaky sour with lots of fruit as apples and cherries, giving an almost sweetly balsamic and fruity finish. A pleasant surprise!
3.8 A - Cloudy brown-orange with a finger of frothy off-white head. Fades fairly quickly. S - Sour cherries, sweet caramel and dark caramel malts, brown sugar, candi sugar, vanilla, dark fruits, funkiness, spices, and some booze. T - Sour cherries, sweet caramel and dark caramel malts, candi and brown sugar, vanilla, funkiness, some spices, Brett, acidity, and some booze. M - Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Smooth with a sweet, sour, and warming finish. D - A bit off balanced and rough. The flavors do not quite come together.
3.1 Thanks to yespr for that one. Bottle looks simple but really good. Beer in the glass zippy, huge head. Starts quite sour, intense fruity notes of cherries. Finish less sour, also some sweet notes in the background. But a bit unbalanced and so not too drinkable. Had better Mikkellers.
4.0 bottle from dranken Geers, dark reddish coloured with very small white head. Cherry, woody smell. Taste: maybe some great fruity cherry .. Ooh, I didn’t expect such a good one! Why are they retired?
3.4 Pours with almost no head. Pours a cloudy reddish brown. This is quite a strange taste, though not unpleasant. Doesnt feel like a 10 percent beer.
3.5 30th May 2011 Cloudy red brown beer, residual off white head. Light palate, semi dry. Moderate carbonation. Tart medicinal toned Worcester Sauce! Some paradoxical sweet notes. A little cherry underneath. Finishes dry with a lingering tart aftertaste. Very drinkable.
2.8 500 ml bottle poured a clear reddish amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of apple cider vinegar, carmel and light toffee. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a lightly tart finish. Flavors of carmel, toffee, apple cider vinegar and cinnamon with a crisp dry lightly tart lingering funky spiced finish.
3.3 Flaske 0,5l spandert av Rune og delt med ham under rateseanse i WCveien 4 Okt 12. Gyldenbrun. Middels høyt skum som fester seg til glasset. Syrlig fruktaroma. Gjæret kirsebær. Smaken veldig fruktig. Litt syrlig. Avslutter svakt bittert.
3.5 Bottle. Pours hazy red amber with a minimal off white head. Aroma is caramel malt, butterscotch, balsamic, funk, over ripe fruits, acetone and oak. Taste is moderate sweet and sour. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Finishes with a balsamic sour burn deep in the throat. The most sweet sour I’ve had so far I think.
4.0 Have tried 3 of these now, pours dark ruby amber colour, minimal head. Smells funky with sour dark fruits and vinegar. tastes sour cherry fruity up front, some roasted flavours and really tart throughout. A good smelly cheese beer.
3.6 Bottle, shared with BBGTC. Pours a deep nutty brown murky body with a small white head. Nose is terpentine, wood, balsamico, sour red berries and hints of apple peel. Taste is lactic vinegar-tart wood and red berry tones, grape-like sweetness and hints of figs and deep malts. Complex and nice. Full body, medium carbonation. Weird in its own way, and very tart but also very enjoyable.
3.4 Bottled I met this beer with few expectations. Overall Mikkeller cranks out some good products. The obstacle is typically the price point. Whatever the reason even a 12 ounce bottle is at the high end of what I normally would pull the trigger on. This particular release is a passable sour yet nothing special. Aroma / Appearance - The beer pours a deep reddish brown with an opaque base. There is no head retention at all. Cherry pie, vinegar, and traces of superglue mix the expected with the unusual. Put together it reminds me of a slightly overdone blackberry cobbler. Flavor / Palate - Vinegar and acetone provide the sour kickstart. Blackberry cobbler and cherry pits try to provide some balance. The tart mouthfeel is acidic but not in the same way that an American sour or lambic chews at the throat. This is reasonable but loses a point or two for the high price.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a dark, slightly cloudy, amber with a decent off white coloured head. Aromas of balsamic, light acetone and some sour fruit. Nice stuff. Flavours are slightly sweet initially before the sourness comes into play. Decent sour finish. Medium mouthfeel. Nice stuff.
3.2 Deep golden with low amounts of white foam. Aroma is heavy balsamic with turpentine in the back. Some sourish notes. Complex taste, fruity, sweet , bitter and sour, dates.. a special sour, I like it.
3.4 500 ml. bottle. Pours a medium ivory, well retained head, with bit of lacing, over a slightly hazy, reddish amber (SRM 18) body.....nose is sour cherry, light balsamic vinegar....taste is sour cherry, balsamic vinegar, slight musty barnyard, with light sweetness.....mouth feel medium, slightly sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation low. This is a different sour. The slight sweetness takes away from the complexity and the refreshing nature of many in this very broad style. BJCP 7/3/13/4/7
3.3 500ml bottle, 9.75 % or 9.99 % abv, from Vinmonopolet Vika. Shared with Finn. Bubbly, beige surface. Dark orange coloured body with a slight haze. Oaky dry smell of yeasty fruitiness. Blended dry, tart and sweet taste with raspberry, malt and fruit. Very dry ending added by tart berries. Full bodied, but not extreme in any way. Good cleanser (Tromsø, 04.10.2012).
3.5 Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Pours hazy dark orange in colour with a whitish head. Wood, sour apple and vinegar in aroma. Exotic dark fruits and vinegar mostly in flavour.
1.8 Pours an amber pour with a small tan head. Smells strangely like soy sauce. Harsh acetic notes, some dark fruits, strawberry, and raspberry fruit notes. Weird sweetness to it, too. The vinegar dominates the flavor. A bit of strawberry and raspberry, some soy sauce saltiness, a bit of nail polish remover and solvent harshness to it.
1.3 Bottle @ Dan’s house. Pours a hazy reddish orange appearance with very little head. Spicy, vinegar, balsamic, weird berry aroma. Super gross, acetic, acetone, vinegrette, super acidic, nasty flavor. Very hard to drink.
2.4 Pour on out of 22 bottle, Aarom for the pour. Dark red pour with thin white head, aroma has notes of wine vinegar, hints of raspberry, touch of lemon, grape, hints of funk. Taste is a mix of raspberry, hints of biscuit, acetone, nail polish. Not good.
4.3 Brown orange color with white head. Chardonnay oak aroma. Smooth creamy body, Fruity cherry tart flavor with woody esters, champagne and bit of vinegar.
3.1 50 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 18.06.2011 Aroma is sourish with cherries and some oaky notes. Flavour is sour and somewhat sweet with woody notes, some cherries and vinegar. These Oud Bruin beers are just not my thing.
2.6 Bottle. Frothy white good mostly lasting head. Amber colour. Light malty and hoppy very sour aroma. Light bitter exstremely sour vinegar flavor. Average finish. Oily palate. Rubbish and no good.
3.9 Somewhat clear brown body, creamy tan head, surprisingly. Fermented fruit, pickled raisins, some dead hops. Sourness, yes, but loads of residual sugars, brown sugar and fruit juice concentrate. This is crazy... Quite surprised by this one, much better than expected for a 10% sour ale. (At the De Molen tasting)
3.2 50cl bottle shared at the molen tasting.Vingar aroma. Clear amber pour. Sour taste but not overpowering. Alcohol well hidden
3.9 Color is orange-brown, a bit hazy. The aroma is (wine) vinegar, oak and has a light maltyness. Tingling to the mouth, taste has lots of oak, some wine vinegar, dark fruits and a light malty sweetness in the end. A very nice sour ale, but might be a bit of an acquired taste.
4.4 Thx! to Belgbeergeek // #40 Mikkeller rating // not a big fan of the artist who makes these label but I am not drinking this for the label // dark slightly hazy Bordeaux, small white head // lots of tart fruits, heavy on vinegar, touch paint thinner, sour malt, sour berry vinegar, red wine vinegar – apparently mellowed down now, fresh this was apparently pure pain thinner, cool // slightly sweet vinegar taste, sour berries, cherries, sour tannins hint, paint stripper, lots of sour malt, vinegar finish, small cranberry & sweet side, even touch sugar below the vinegar, harsh man, I love this, raw, industrial-esque, its both sweet & quite sour // med. carb, dry & dries the mouth // I am intrigued (50 cl. bottle split)
3.2 Bottle@præstemosen. No head. Haze brown. Vinegar cucumber oak aromas. Tart dry surpriced by the light body. A little too sour mounk for my taste.
2.7 Expensive 500 mL bottle. Poured Near-clear reddish-amber with a short-lived beige head. The aroma picked up lots of tart cherries and vinegar, with almost cereal-y backing.. brandy-like warmth filled the nostrils on the back.. weird stuff. The flavor opened with tart oak and vinegar, with cereal and cherry meat following.. peppery, cherry-infused vodka on the hot, acidic finish.. cherries and boozage stuck around after the swallow. Medium-bodied and too sharp at many times on the palate.. residual sugars and rough alcohol all over.. messy. I didn’t get this one.
3.3 Bottle @ home. Pours hazy orange brown with a fading offwhite. Aroma of malt, candy, oak, dark fruit, tart redwine like notes. Flavor is malt, oak, redwine, light vinegar, light sugary finish, dark fruits. Thin to medium, soft carbonation. 200712
