3.8pours heavy and oily with tight, dark brown head. aromas are roasted malt, biscuit, nuts. palate is earthy, nutmeg, coffee and cocoa. nice weight, not over the top.
4.1Oh my, I have been anticipating this one for a long while. Last years was not that good so I’m happy to be able to step back a few years in time with this 2011 bottle. Here we go...
Pours black with a big dark brown head that rests down to a bubbly film.
Aroma has citrus/herbal hops, roasted malt, old coffee, dark chocolate.
Taste is as above but with some slight tart note.
Thick mouth feel, full body, soft carbonation.
After taste is short, dry and chocolatey bitter.
3 years old and held up very nice. Much more well composed/balanced compared to a fresh bottle but thats, of course, pretty much expected.
3.7Backlog. Bottle bought from Systembolaget as a part of their winter-releases.
4.1En hel del chocklad och kaffe i aromen. Viss syrlighet, riktigt bra balanserad kropp med en lagom kolsyra.
3.5Bottle at guren thx Jap.
Strong nose, coffee, alcohol.
Black brown color, off white head.
Medium body, sour sweet, coffee, alcohol, small bubbles.
:)
Bolton Brew.
4.2750ml bottle from Antioch Fine Wine. Appears to be the 2011 version from the label (certainly is not the 2012/2013 versions). Pours a very, very dark brown with a milk chocolate head leaving some nice lacing. Aroma has heavy roast, dark chocolate, toffee and burnt sugars. Yummy. Taste is of sweet milk chocolate, chocolate liquour, toffee and espresso. Medium to full bodied, and super smoooooth. Faint alcohol presence. Finishes long and nicely balanced on that bitter/sweet scale. This is lovely; rich, smooth and tasty.
4.127-DEC-2013, bottle @home.
Unclear Brown with lasting, lacing tan head.
Aroma is spice, fruit, bread, coffee and other roasted stuff. Taste the same. Full body and soft carbonation. Fantastic. Had it side by side with the 2012 that was slightly better.
4.5Bottle @ home, aged 2 years. Pours dark reddish to black with a massive mocha head with large bubbles and some lacing. Lots of vinous dark fruits in the aroma, sweet notes of bourbon, roast, dark chocolate, oak, dark bread & honey. Some warming alcohol. Mouth feel is full bodied and smooth. Taste starts sweet of dark fruits, bourbon & sweet chocolate followed by a dry oak & bread tone. Finishes dry with a grainy feeling & a somewhat sour roast character combined with citrus & chocolate.
4.5Aged 2 years. Black pour with a thin ring of khaki head. Nose is dark and roasted with a bit of booze ester, a touch of bourbon, and a wee bit of molasses. Flavor is big and roasty with sweet dark chocolate, alcohol heat, earthy roast, molasses, and a wee touch of coffee; finished with a bit of earthy dry caramel and roast.
4.2Look: Huge thick equal brown/mocha head, slow retention. Some spectacular shit. Color of the beer is dark brown/black. Leaves lots of lacing. One of the best looking beers.
Smell: Fresh, surprisingly. Nice balance of roasted, coffee malt, hop and spices. Smooth clove, star anise notes, hints of something stronger; also some medicinal/peppermint notes. When it warms up, the roasted malt start to dominate.
Taste: Some sweetness at start, goes to big roasted/mocha/dark chocolate middle malt, still smooth tho. Ends with bitterness from roasted malt and some hop hints. Quite refreshing. No hint of the alcohol.
Mouthfeel: Mid-full body, maybe a bit less then expected. Carbonation lively, but still leaves a nice creamy feel. No warming from the alcohol.
Overall: This one got me a bit off guard - wasn’t expecting it to be this good. A fine specimen. The extra spices add the freshness but stay in balance with the whole idea - a very good execution. And it looks stunning.
5.0Vintage 2011 from Saver Biere. Swietna swiateczna niespodzianka, ale bylem niesamowicie zaskoczony ta bamba czarnego portera imperialnego mocnego i gestego. Wytrawnego i mocno palonego.
3.9(Bottle) Brownish black colour with lasting, rocky, pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of dark chocolate, black coffee, black rye bread, burnt sugar, tobacco, toffee, roasted almonds, asphalt and some spices. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, black rye bread, dark chocolate, a touch of smoke, burnt sugar, soy sauce, spices and a generous roasty bitterness in a finish. More than medium body, fairly dry. Tasty and spicy winter porter. Very nice.
4.6[2013 on tap] - Black, clear with a dark red/tan head. Roasted malt, chocolate, espress, earthy and faint leather aromas develop on the notes. Light lively and slick. Full bodied! Some sweetness building up nicely. Offers some marginal traces of bitterness and saltiness which makes this beer complex. Long lasting toffee linger! Ace!
4.2Not too shabby porter. Nice base, with a good hoppy tinge on top. Some holiday spices, but there should be more for this style.
3.5On tap at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Pours a dark brown/black. Rummy, dark fruit coffee aroma. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. Coffee, milk chocolate, port. Nice bitter choc/coffee. Well balanced. Tasty.
4.1Cellared for two years. Pours black with a fairly large foam head. Aroma is honey, coffee, muscovado sugar, vanilla, nutmeg, spices. Taste is very nice: honey, coffee, muscovado sugar, chocolate, vanilla, figs.
3.8A nice Baltic porter, with a small amount of sour. Big bubbly cocoa mix head. Roast aroma. Thick pour. Nice burnt parts. Thanks Liam.
4.0Smells very nice of liqourice, caramel and chocolate.
Pours black with a brown frothy, head.
Medium bitterness, light sweetness.
Medium body, creamy, soft carbonation, bitter, long finish.
In the beginning, I found it had too much smoke to it but it only gets better and better. A decent porter.
3.8This is a very complex beer. It has a long lasting aftertaste with changing flavours.
3.8Bottle three years in basement. Black brown w beige brown head. Vanilla, syrup, licorice, chocolate. Taste much the same as aroma but more roasted malts, sour, smoky and dry finish.
4.1Aroma:vanilla, licorice, chocolate.
Taste: smoky and bitter.
Very good beer. Recommendable.
4.4A porter as it should be. Creamy, velvety, yet sparkling. Initially you get the vanilla and complex roasted notes, then smoke and bitterness. More, more!
3.5Good porter, with vanilla, chocolate, rope and very Smokey aftertaste. A bit to much smoke in my opinion.
3.2Draught at Mikkeller and Friends, Copenhagen
Pitch black color with generous brown head (larger than the head of younger vintages). The aroma is essentially roasted malt, impression of wet cardboard. Smooth mouthfeel; roasted malt flavor, ashy, with a saccharine feeling; then traces of dark chocolate; ordinary bitterness, cardboard, liquorice, light spices; some final astringency.
Not super-nice, there is some mess; probably doesn’t age well.
2.8In short: A spicy fruity porter with candy-like sweetness. Unfocused and low drinkability.
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed when over one year of age.
The look: Very dark mahogany body topped by a persistent large tan head.
In long: Nose is moderately spicy (cloves and others) along with black liquorice and fresh prunes. In mouth the beer feels heavy despite the generous carbonation. Taste is quite spicy (cloves, cinnamon and more), christmas candy cane, strange sensation of burnt flower petals, juicy prunes, soft black liquorice candy, roasted wood, some coffee, lilacs (!!!), purple jelly beans, more... All these flavors (and there are many) just do not mesh together very well. This is a tasty beer but it is also a beer that feels a bit messy. It is also too sweet and too spicy for my taste. The type of beer that is ok at first because it is very tasty, but it is the type of taste I quickly grew tired of. Judging by the ratings it appears lots of people love this beer, I am not a huge fan of people who are huge fans of things I am not a huge fan of, like huge fans of huge fans for instance, I hate interior wind.
4.5Duft: Kaffe, røget. brand brød, mørk malt. duft af kakao pulver
Smag: røgeten smule, smag af whiskey, eftersmag af ristet brød.
smag af kakao pulver. øllet føles tør i munden i eftesmagen
3.5Svart med lys brunt skum. Mørk sjokolade, julekrydder. Salt Halslinsesmak. Medium kullsyre, lite bitter.
3.7Bottle. This is s nice big burly porter with lots of roasted malt flavour. A perfect gift.
3.9Black of color with a huge brown head A aroma of roasted malt, coffee, liqurice, dusty and spice. A flavor of liqurice, roasted malt, spice and bitter.
