2.8The aroma is yeasty and hoppy with pine, citrus, and herbs along with yeasty bread and caramel. The appearance is hazy amber with a foamy head. The taste is bitter and unimpressive but like the aroma. The palate is smooth for the style. Overall pretty much on par for this brewer but so-so.
3.311.2oz bottle from Gomer’s Lees Summit, MO. Totally forgot I had all these. Pours a cloudy, orange-amber-gold colored body with a finger-width, creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma has some nice orange hops with a medium sweet, bready malt backing that has some caramel to it. A bit of a grassy spice and fruity apricots as well. Flavor is bready caramel, orange hops with some grassy spices, and somewhat piney towards the end. Finishes clean and dry with a medium-high bitterness before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Smooth, medium body and a creamier, moderate carbonation. Overall, clean and smooth with some nice fruit notes, but a bit too bitter. My favorite of the series so far, but haven’t had the Brett yeast yet.
3.011.2 oz. bottle, pours a murky, opaque orangey brown with a medium beige head. Aroma of grassy hops, herbal notes, earth, and some feint tropical fruits. Flavour of earthy dry hops, grainy malts, rye-like bread, and finishes with a very slight fruity tinge. Nice dry body, though a little dirty and messy. Decent.
3.7from Erzbierschof - hazy dark orange-blond beer with a persistent foam; chewy malts and some fruity notes; full-bodied, sticky and corny; solidly bitter; quite dry and with a long fruity hoppiness
3.412oz bottle 7/22/12 (Binny’s Naperville)-41° in Lager Glass-Pours a hazy amberish golden with a small white head. Aroma of hops, caramel, and sweetness. Taste of hops, citrus, malt, caramel, and bread. This medium bodied brew was not bad. I don’t know what I was expecting but it hides the ABV very well.
3.1Sampled on 5/5/2012. This “IPA/Strong Pale Lager(?)” pours a slightly cloudy orange gold color from a 330ml bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, caramel and sweet. A medium bodied ale. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are herbal and earthy. Decent carbonation. Not a whole lot of that typical pilsner spiciness. A touch of sweetness at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
3.423rd August 2010
Hazy amber beer. Good white head. Light dry palate, slightly soft. Spicy hops - grapefruit. Trace of orange, finishes dry and slightly soft. Nice beer but not very lager like!
3.6Bottle.Hazy amber colour with medium white head.Aroma is sweet and vinious, with sweet malty and frutiy flavor, good note of yeast and hops, well balanced and sweet, really tastey beer.
3.2Bottled: Pours hazy murky amber with a huge fluffy, off-white head with excellent lacing. The nose is with piney, earthy hops and caramel. The flavor is medium sweet with bitter hops, with citrus fruits and caramel notes. Medium bodied with a bite, oily texture and lively carbonation. Solid bitter and more dry finish. OK.
4.1Bottled. Poured cloudy orangey-amber with a tall, sticky off-white head. The aroma picked up clean bready notes and lighter-skinned fruits, with fresh oranges, peaches, and other fruits around.. light peppery notes too.. surprisingly good!. The flavor found bread and mixed fruity malts at the core.. Orange and pine resin bitterness and light sourness around.. finished dry, fruity, and peppery.. tasty! Medium-bodied and well-carbonated on the palate.. smooth across the middle.. good transitions through the mouth.. excellent stuff!
3.7Draught at Mikkeller Bar, opening night
Bright amber color. It’s the first of the series, I can’t yet compare it, but the fruity hops are somehow too strong to reveal the qualities of the yeast. Both aroma and flavor are rather fruity, and the yeast seems to build a spicy character; good toffee backbone.
3.7pours hazy caramel, decent white head. doesn’t really look like a typical lager, as expected from Mikkeller. nose is herbal malts, earthy hop profile, Belgian yeast. full bodied with long, bitter aftertaste. I dug it.
3.0Hazy orange, fluffy white head. Yeast funk nose. Pretty average lager with Belgian notes throughout.
3.6Clear orange with a huge off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and rather hoppy - grapefruit and peach. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. 210112
3.0Golden with a thick white head. Malty with hop tones. Malt and bitterness. Medium body with a long dry finish.
3.612 oz. bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a hazy amber color with a small off white head. The nose is moderately sweet malts, mildly spicy, with some herbal and floral notes as well. Flavors of caramel malts, a nice fruitiness, spicy notes with some light herbals as well. I had no idea what to expect, but found this to be fairly tasty.
3.7Bottle. Poured a hazy copper color with an average frothy white head that was lasting and produced excellent lacing. Good moderate earthy leather hop and yeast aroma. Medium to full body with a dry slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with with a moderate to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This beer exceeded my expectations.
3.7Thanks to yespr for that one. Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass very zippy, huge head. Starts hoppy and dry, modest sweet. Some fruity hints of lemon. Finish mild, dry-malty. Quite drinkable. Not bad!
3.5Dark orange body with a big off white head. Nice fresh hoppy aroma, some maltiness with caramel. Medium body, easy drinking, alcohol is noticeable though. Flavour is bittersweet, citric, with caramel and cereal.
3.7Bottle. Amber clear. One finger head. Almost no malt/hop aromas. Sourbitter in taste and finish. A little dull but strong! Rerated with the new yeast serie. Two finger foam. Hazy copper. Extreme intens citrus tropical fruit aromas. Quite bitter. Can it be the Same recipe as the former serie. Totally different upgrade brew.
4.2330ml bottle. If only all pale lagers looked, smelt and tatsed this good the world would be a better place. Rocky dense head and a deep golden honey colour. The aroma is strong and fills the nose with a sweet pleasant scent. Full in the mouth with a velver texture. Big and bold and puts the bite into pale lagers.
3.4Bottle. Murky golden colour with large creamy off-white mostly lasting head. Hoppy aroma. Sweet and bitter flavor Oily palate.
3.5Good IPA. hoppy. Good beer but the project fails.
I do not understand it to be such a hoppy beer, when the idea is that you should be able to taste the difference in yeast.
2.0Translucent reddish-orange with a craggy white head. Big piney hop aroma. Caramel malts overpowered by lingering resinous hops. Sticky, stick. Sticky, sticky. Yeah, brewing a hop-monster is the best way to show off different yeasts.
3.4bottle. medium copper pour, grassy, orange, caramel maltiness, light cardboard, grapefruity bitterness. decent but tasted a tad old
3.3Bottled 330ml (Beer Planet)
Deep amber-copper color, big cloudy off-white head, lace. Hayish hoppy nose with hints of alcohol and kind of yeastyness. Medium-bodied. Quite strong hoppyness in the flavor, similar attacking bitterness than in their Single Hop Tomahawk, but this is not brewed with Tomahawk I believe. Finish has some sweetish fruityness and good amount of alcohol. Interesting brew, although not a classic, nice. At RB this has style "Imperial Pils". Actually this is an ale brewed with lager yeast and its taste leans more towards ale fruityness than sharp refreshing lager.
3.3Bottled @ tasting cgarvieuk, courtesy of BeerCast_Rich. Slightly hazy golden colour, medium off-white head. Aroma is malty, slightly hoppy. Flavour is malty, hoppy, fairly bitter. Odd.
3.2[330ml bottle, The Bottle Shop, Canterbury] Deep amber suspension – so much sediment in this, the pour looks like it has plankton floating around in it. Fluffy white head. Hoppy, fruity nose. Bitter on the palate, almost IPA-like. In fact, given this blind I would swear it was an IPA, due to the hop profile. What would make me think twice is the clean finish, which is pretty crisp for an IPA and swings back to lager. Interesting stuff [08052011]
3.37 May 2011, bottle at one of cgarvieuk’s legendary tastings. pinkish orange, hazy sediment, foamy white head. faintly yeasty, malty alcohol and bitter astringent hops. med body and mildly fizzy. burnt caramel and very bitter (dry grassy hops). not superb.
3.1Bottle at home ... copper ... thin off white head ... soft fruity juicy soft hop nose ... big bitter light grassy hop front ... way too bitter for me ... i need another yeast to compair .. its ok. ... but not lagery as its not a lager its juts a lager yeast ...
