Mill Street Stock Ale

Mill Street Stock Ale

Formerly known as Sparkling Ale (6/05)

A golden export-style ale made from only malt and hops, no fillers or adjuncts. A brillant golden colour gives a “sparkling” appearance as the gas escapes from the glass. The natural sweetness of the malt is perfectly balanced by the bitterness derived from the hops. This beer represents the way blonde ales were made 100 years ago.

2.8 341 ml bottle @ Petit Bill's Ottawa. Pours a super clear pale yellow with a moderate white head. Aroma is grain dominant with some sweet malts present. Tastes are grain, mild alcohol and a faint hoppy bitterness. Relatively thin body, carbonation very present (probably more noticeable due to mild taste). Nice example of a golden ale, good for a hot summer day. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
2.3 Pretty nice looking beer for what it is. Not much head, but decent lacing. Pale yellow, good solid carbonation. Aroma is biscuity, very little hop in there at all. Taste is quite sweet, but a decent length of finish for a simple beer. Decent beer for drinking a couple.
3.2 Don’t pour this one. Pull it out of an ice chest. Sweet start; crisp finish. The soda pop of ales.
2.7 Tap at Calgary International Beer Fest, and my 100th Golden Ale/Blonde Ale rating. Pours clear gold with a medium, fizzy white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is biscuit and meal malt, light earthy hops and clean. Flavor is malt, faint hops and bitterness, clean with a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.
1.3 bland not exciting i should have got a old style pilsner this beer does not do the trick
3.2 I don’t know... overall a pretty well balanced beer. I wouldn’t mind drinking a few of these on a hot day in summer. Nice carbonation that keeps a "buzz" on you tongue.
3.1 Boy, nothing is more unappealing to a rater than a clear bottle of light colored beer. Pours a very clean, light yellow (think Coors) with a small dense white head. Aroma has a light/mild amount of grainy presence with just a touch of some Noble hops (tettnang?). Flavor has a good grainy presence, light noble grassy hops presence. Body is extremely light with a good sharp carbonation kick at the end. Overall, for a light brew this is very nice. The grainy presence isn’t overdone and is what a light, clean beer should look, smell and taste like, unlike a lot of American macros that taste a bit cheap. Pleasurably light brew. For the style, a very good example of what it should and can be.
2.4 Bouteille de 341ml, robe blonde claire, arôme très naturel de grains et de houblons, même chose dans le goût.
2.0 Clear yellow pour with big fluffy white head. Almost no aroma to speak of... very faint hints of sweet malts and fresh grass. Taste is very light, with notes of mildly roasted malts, herbal grassiness and very faint hop bitterness; more astringent than floral. High carbonation and decent mouthfeel, but otherwise a yawner. Nothing standout here...
2.2 Pours a almost clear, with nice carbonation. Aroma is a dry malt. And taste is same not much going on.
2.5 Bottle. Clear and gold with small ring. Medium carbonation. Slightly skunky, grassy aroma. Taste is slightly sweet, mild. Utterly forgettable.
2.9 Golden straw pour with lively carbonation. Thin head remains. Sweet malt and grass on the nose. Pretty easy drinking but nothing much to this ale.
2.4 Pours a clear straw-yellow colour with a decent soapy white head that sticks around for longer than i expected. Aroma Isn’t heavy, it consists of mild pale grain, and a hint of mild hop presence. Taste is not big, minimal sweetness at the beginning and very mildly bitter at the end that you could miss if you weren’t paying attention and high carbonation that isn’t a bad thing. A great beer pong beer(i try not to touch the macro stuff even if its for drinking games).
2.7 Draught at the brewpub Hazy deep blond color, small creamy head. Light malt aroma. Simple flavor, a bit papery; ordinary bitterness. Very light butter. Easy.
2.5 Thought this was a pale lager at first...in which case I would have rated it higher...it tastes like a good pale lager....some malty sweetness. Clean, crisp, and refreshing. But as far as golden/blonde ales go, I’ve had better.
2.7 Very clean beer, nice clean taste. very much enjoyable. Mill St very good product.
2.8 Pours a pale pale yellow with minimal head that fizzes out in seconds. Probably good on a hot day, today was not that hot.
2.7 Grainy aroma and flavor. Appearance is a dull yellow. Drinkable, but lacks any noteworthy characteristics.
2.5 Pour out of 12 oz bottle is clear yellow with white head, aroma has notes of honey, corn, grainy flabby notes, some slight spicy notes as well. Taste is sweet corn, grain husk, biscuit, some slight watery spice, finishing fairly sweet. Eh.
2.2 Bottle @ Dan’s house, pushkinwow. Thanks! Clear, golden appearance with basically no head. Sweet honey, light peach/apricot, a bit grainy, light apple aroma. Tangy, honey, green apple fruity, quite sweet flavor. Bleh.
1.9 341ml bottle from variety pack. Yellow (Lovibond 6) clear pour, no head. Thin lace. Aroma is very mild - nothing notable. Weird mouthfeel - there's a lot of carbonation but it is soft and flat feeling. Taste is confusing but not completely unpleasant. Sweet initially, but not satisfying. Bitter aftertaste but not sharp enough to impress. Not a favourite.
3.0 341ml bottle pours a beautiful clear pale golden color with an inch and a half bubbly white head that settles to a ring. Nice carbonation as bubbles run up the trappist glass for duration of drink. Aroma is mild grains and hops. Taste is decently balanced between the malty sweetness and hoppy bready bitterness. A good standard ale with no extras.
2.0 Bottle in a Mill Street mix pack, from LCBO. Plain inoffensive smell. Creamy malty taste, with some hay; also fairly inoffensive. A lagerboy beer.
2.0 What can I say about this one? "Meh." Get the Tankhouse instead. Unless you’re one of those people who are trying as many as you possibly can... which you are if you’re reading Ratebeer. In which case, congrats, you’ve found something better than Carling. I’ve given this a few extra points because of the description "This beer represents the way blonde ales were made 100 years ago." I respect what they’re trying to do, I guess. But it just isn’t that great of a beer. It did have a bit of head, so that was nice. A very refreshing colour that beckons, "consume me!" You bring it to your lips... and... it’s sour bread. Not much else, really. Doesn’t last on the palate long. I guess my great great granddad had different tastes than I do.
1.4 on tap at brewpub. very light golden, orange hue, with a small white cap, little retention. some sweet malts, faint malts, very light grassy-citrusy. light body, aggressive carbonation.
3.2 Clear bright golden yellow, quickly disappearing white head. Light fruity malty aroma. Sweet honey bready malt taste dominates, no discernable hoppiness. Softly carbed and easy to drink. Finishes medium sweet. LF (Lagerboy Friendly)
2.9 341ml bottle pours a pale golden color with a finger and a half of white head that retains decently and eventually settles to some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is mild grains and hops. Taste is decently balanced between the malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness. A slight step up from your typical macro brew.
3.3 While there is nothing special about this particular brew, it is well put together. Overall, this is your basic blonde ale. A decent beer for an average day. Nothing special here, but worth trying. Good balance of malt and hops.
2.1 Gold,stark white head.Stale beery nose,hint of sweetness.Vaguely sweet malt palate, bland & unremarkable.No discernable hops
