Millstream Schild Brau Amber

Millstream Schild Brau Amber

The name Schild Brau means essentially 'Shield beer' in German. This is our Flagship brew, a Microbrew done in the style of the special beers of Munich. This beer is brewed in the style of a Vienna style lager. This style was first developed by Anton Dreher in Vienna in 1841. He used a new type of sweet caramelized malt that gave the beer a wonderful reddish, coppery color and a juicy malt character. Word soon spread to Germany where this style of beer became immensely popular, and stronger versions called Marzen or Oktoberfest were soon made. Our beer uses these same malts to attain a perfect balance between malty sweetness and a firm bitterness. Our Hallertau hops are imported from Germany give it subtle spicy flavor. The repeated awards that we have received for this beer only confirm why many people consider this beer to be synonymous with Millstream Brewing at its best.

2.4 Bottle, upping my Iowa cred. Lots of caramel on the nose, grainy and pretty plain. Enjoyable to drink, nothing special here. Not a fan of the style really.
2.8 Red pour from draft at catfish Charlie's in Dubuque. Red and clear. Bitter and slight fruit flavors. Malty earthy and cinnamon notes. Not bad not great
2.6 Bottle. A- Grains, spices, bread, caramel. A- Copper color, hazy liquid, minimal head. T- Caramel, slightly matly, spices. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, malty finish. O- An average amber lager. Has some complexity to it but not a lot.
3.2 Copper/light amber/clear. Some head. Malty meally grainy aroma with some citrusoverripe like fruit,vienna/victory malts.Caramel raison. Taste is same, raison cookies. Some old offness.Quite a distinct t strong type of malt aroma/flavor. Not a bad amber.Tastes a bit old or off however.
3.2 Received this beer a couple years ago. Light caramel malt aroma. Pours a golden brown red, off white head, mostly diminishing, good lacing. The taste is non-descript, so umami. The body id light, the texture thin and slick, the carbonation soft and the finish short and a slight bitterness. OK, shouldn’t have let it age at 4.9% but didn’t really have any choice. Maybe the next time my buddy goes to Wisconsin I can drink this sooner. Not a fair rating.
2.8 12 oz bottle. A. From Iowa. Thanks go to John M. Clear amber colour with a small off-white head. Malt, nuts and... nuts and... nuts in the aroma. Dryish. The flavour is malt, sweetness and a touch of hops. Boring.
2.7 Tap, deep cloudy amber. Medium white head with medium/heavy lacing. Malty aroma. Medium bitter/sweet taste. Average carbonation and a medium body, finished clean. Overall, looked stunning but nothing spectacular in regards to flavor and aroma.
2.9 Huge carbonation in the bottle I had. Bread nose. Light toasted malt and more bread notes. Bubbly carbonation.
3.2 A-Carmel and nutty. A-medium Amber brown hue. T-sweet Carmel malts with subtle spice. P-Mild carbonation with a small amount of dry finish that helps with sweetness in beginning. O- a good representation for a German style amber. Sweet Carmel and roasted nut flavors.
3.1 Bottle. Pours amber with a white head. Light pale malty base, hint of fruity sweetness, and low bitterness. Decent.
2.9 Bottle at Blipp’s surprise almost 5K tasting. Pours cloudy gold with white head. Nose and taste of sweet malt, light fruit, bread and toasted grain. Lighter medium body.
3.4 Bottle. Pours an amber color with white head. Nice nutty, hazelnut, malty, toasty aromas. Nutty, malty, bready flavors. Pretty nice amber lager.
2.6 Bottle, weird graphic of some mill house on the bottle and hops?? Amber color, not much head. Sweet smell , bittersweet taste. Weird all in all
1.8 bottle into pint glass, clear brown pour with white head, funky aroma, some fruit, taste is kinda crappy, dont liek it
2.3 Pours a golden carmel with a thin white smell of bread and yeast with a hint of fruit....Taste is bitter yeast dough mess...this beer is a nice accent piece if you mix it with the stout.....
3.5 12oz bottle-lt tan-copper. A-sweet med malt-bready. T-sweet med malt-bready/caramel, 2nd spice hops.
2.9 Bottled. Poured cloudy medium orange with a sticky off-white head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasted nutty and bready malts with wet medium-skinned fruits and related tartness accenting.. OK for the style. The flavor found sweet caramel and fruity notes at the core with tart fruit skins and a hit of oxidation around.. found some prickly carbonation and peppery notes on the finish. Lighter-bodied and sweet overall on the palate.. a tad too sharp toward and through the finish.. not my favorite.
4.2 An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has primary notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel as well as lighter notes of wheat bread, alcohol, and bread - reminds me of a bock. love the maltyness of this brew
4.3 Really malty flavor. Real thick feel when drinking it. Great flavor, one of my favorite beers. Really easy to drink, no aftertaste, and has great flavor. GOOD BEER.
2.3 Bottle from Laurissa. Amber pour with little to no head. Aroma is caramel and grain. Taste is green beans, crackers, and a little astringent.
3.3 Tap - average size foamy head, medium copper color, sweet caramel malt aroma and flavor, mild hop bitterness
2.6 Draft. Amber body. Off-white, short head, quickly diminishing. Aroma of grain, caramel, bread. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, chalky texture, lively carbonation. Raw grain taste with secondary flavors of caramel and nuts. Some floral hop flavors, but not much.
3.4 Very malty and smooth, but with a pleasant freshness. A bit of barnyard, a bit of overripe dark fruit, a touch of holiday spice! Lightly dry finish. Nice depth. I’d love to serve this one as a beer with a bit of something extra to friiends who just grab what ever mass produced beer is on sale.
3.2 Amber, good head. Malt, little hops (like it should be) and taste of dark fruit such as raisins.
3.4 12oz bottle. Rating #185. Dark amber with a slight haze and a small light beige head. Sweet raisin aroma, light toast and a bit of caramel. Mild flavor, a bit of caramel and toast with some graininess. (2385)
3.3 12 oz bottle pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of the roasted malts and grain. Taste is the malts and nutty with a hint of bitterness.
3.5 Bottle poured a clear amber with a lasting ivory head. Aroma of toasted malt, carmel, light graininess and a hint of earthiness. Palate was medium, bodied and smooth. Flavors of toasted malt, earthiness and carmel with a smooth lingering malty finish.
3.4 pours a dark copper with no head. Sweet malt aroma and hints of biscuit. Nicely carbonated, lots of biscuit and malt flavor all the way. Solid beer.
3.4 Aroma is fruit and yeast. Pours amber with a white head. Taste is malt, grain and yeast. Good beer.
3.0 12 oz. bottle thanks to pineypower. Poured a rusty copper body with a smaller off white head. Aroma is grainy with notes of peanut shells, honey topped toast. Nice medium body with slightly strong carbonation and a refreshing finish. Flavor is a bit better then the aroma with an initial ast of sour sweetness that gives way to caramel malt and toast. Not much going on here but it’s okay.
