3.6 A solid "light" brown ale, slightly bitter finish. A little weaker than my preference but a really good value in the 22oz Trader Joe’sbottle.
3.7 22 ounce bottle. Reddish brown color. Large Rocky tan head. Pleasant toasted malt nose has notes of cocoa and toasted nuts. Upfront, flavor is rich buttery malt with a subtle cocoa and toffee background. The middle is complex and spicy with notes of dark fruits and peppery hops. Finish is chewy malt with more cocoa. Overall, a tasty Brown Ale at a great value at $2.99 for a 22 ounce bottle.
3.1 Type: 22-oz. bottle Glass: 24-oz. plastic tumbler From: Trader Joe’s in Mission Valley (San Diego), Calif. Price: $1.99 Purchased: April 3, 2015 Consumed: April 3, 2015 Misc.: Bottled on Feb. 9, 2015 at 8:42 a.m. Poured a very dark brown murky color with almost four fingers of khaki tan, frothy head. Lots of layered foamy lacing on the sides. Good, thick retention. (Sight - 3.50) Smelled nutty foam, caramel, light toffee and some candied brown sugar. I think the plastic tumbler is hurting the nose here. (Smell - 3.38) Tasted a bit better than the nose and slightly more bitter. Got bitter nutty malts, faint roasty malts, caramel, light sugary toffee and plain old barley. (Taste - 3.50) Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Slightly bitter, abrupt finish. Probably had this a bit too cold. (Feel - 3.50) This was just an OK brown ale, although I must say I didn’t have it under the ideal circumstances and/or drinking glass. But for $1.99, I will certainly try it again. (Overall - 3.50) 3.48 79 B-
3.4 Bomber poured in a pint glass, pours reddish brown with a medium tan head, lacing quickly dissipates. Aroma is roasted cocoa. Flavor is nutty malt . A good brown ale at a reasonably decent price.
3.0 "one of the better budget minded mission st line-up. aroma and flavor are a little heartier, a little more to em. roasted malt and good hop balance. still nothing special, but may revisit at .99."
3.3 Brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is roasted cocoa. Flavor is nutty malt with a hint cocoa. A little bittersweet in the finish. Wife: 3.5
3.4 Bomber from Trader Joe’s pours a clear caramel brown color with small tan head and scant lacing. Aroma is roasted malts with noticeable nuttiness. Taste is on the sweet side with lemony bitterness coming in the middle and through the finish. Body is medium with average carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. I don’t often seek out brown ales, but this one exceeded my expectations, especially for the price.
3.7 Pours a caramel brown color with an off white head. Nut, caramel, toffee and malt aroma. Nut, caramel, toffee, toast, pine and malt flavors. Medium body and carbonation with a nut, caramel and slight hop finish.
3.2 poured from bomber....brown with decent head....very minimal lacing....again i am surprised by a mission street beer...this was a tasty brown at a cheap price..would drink again.
3.4 Reviewed from notes. The appearance is a dark brown colored body with a tan fluffy head that settles in fairly quickly, leaves a good amount of lacing. The smell had a malty bringing in a very light coffee, and a dark barley. The taste had a roasty kind of coffee with a bit of earthy nuttiness. The palate had a medium, fairly sessionable, nutty aftertaste and sticky finish. Overall, this is good for the style and good for me.
3.6 Bomber from Trader Joes. Pours a clear brown color with a large off-white head. A sweet yeasty and nutty nose. The flavor is quite nice; toasted malts, nuts, chocolate, a fruity hop bite in the finish. Very clean. Quite good.
3.6 Nice roasted malt aroma with a bit of cocoa as well. Taste is full flavored and balanced. Cocoa and roasted malt comes through. Solid brown ale.
3.3 22oz bomber from Tempe Trader Joe’s pours with a crystal clear amber to ruby red body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up some roasted malts, a bit of nuttiness and little else that I can tell. The Taste has some bright notes of roasted malts, sweetness and nuttiness but this somehow lacks depth and cohesion. To midway and into the finish a mild lemon to lime hoppy tartness comes to the surface. Decent offering.
3.2 caramel, roasty, herbs, earthy, brown, hazy, minimal head, tan foam, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, brown sugarmedium body, soft carbonation, astringent light
3.3 Bottle. Clear medium brown with a fizzy head. Caramel, bread, and malt aroma and taste with a sweet bread finish.
3.4 Tallahassee, Fl - Trader Joe’s - 22 oz bomber. Very dark brown pour, thick stick eggshell white colored head, thin coat of lacing. Aroma has some light chocolate accents, a hint of potting soil. Flavor is delightful with some nice chocolate undertones, a hint of potting soil, some hints of licorice and a touch of coffee in the back end. Mouthfeel, while not thin and watery is a bit too thin for the flavor - still a solid brown ale though. Well worth the $2.99 I paid for it!
3.4 22 oz bomber from Trader Joe’s Tallahassee. Good label. Clear, ruddy brown beer with a huge tan head. Fine-grained, chainmail bubbles coat the sides of the glass as you tip it. Cool effect. Sweet, nutty aroma. Foam smells powdery and the hops come forward. Fairly hoppy for a brown, drier than it smells, lightly sweet, very slightly astringent, and a little milky perhaps. Roasty finish musters up what sweetness the beer has. Medium body, maybe even a bit on the lightish side. This was a pretty good value @ $2.99 for a bomber. Right up there with the Two Buck Chuck.
2.0 22oz bottle from Trader Joe’s. Bottled 5/17/13. Clear, very dark red color. Thin, light brown head. Few dots of lace. Sweet taste, light bitter bite, spiciness in the finish. Pretty spicy aroma for a brown ale. Medium body. Lightly sticky texture. Lighter carbonation. Caramel malt, some spiciness, sugary syrup. Some light sweet artificial-tasting chocolate, some dark fruit. Too sweet, not very balanced brown ale.
3.8 Bottle from Trader Joe’s. Aroma of deeply roasted nuts, milk chocolate, cola. Flavor follows suit - very chocolatey, sweet, and roasty. Nice bitter finish, with notes of cocoa powder. For $2.29, can’t be beat.
3.3 Bomber->session. Medium brown with thick light tan head. A: caramel malt, nuts, grains. T: roasted and sweet malts, nuts, bread. Some unfortunate metallic tones bring down an otherwise nice brown ale.
3.5 Btl pours reddish brown clear color with a tan head that vanished quickly leaving some light lacing on glass. Smells of toasted nuts, cocoa and a little licorice. Tastes of sweet bread with raisins almost biscotti like, bakers cocoa and roasted nuts with a slight hop bitterness. Light to medium body with a thin texture and a dry finish and soft carbonation. A little watery but overall a good brown with nice melding flavors.
3.3 Bottle. Pours brown with a beige head. Aroma of toasted malt, some red apples, malt and caramel. Flavor is sweet and malty with some nuts, breast and caramel. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.3 Bottle 650ml @ Hotel Room, Treasure Island Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, NV Pours clear brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, grain, caramel, nutty, earthy and floral. Taste is light to medium sweet and medium bitter with a long caramel and bitter finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.
3.6 Bottle, 22oz. A clear-looking brown beer with a dense, light beige head leaving some lacings. The aroma is quite nutty, with roasted malts, caramel and some dark chocolate. Quite dry on the palate, with a plesant level of carbonation. Full body. There’s caramel, nuts and a decent bitterness in the flavor, lasting for a good while. A pretty decent brown ale, well worth a sip or three. 130821
2.9 7/03/2010: Mission St. Brown Ale... Aroma: Dark bread with a suggestion of coffee. Appearance: Dark amber to brown in color; clean appearance; thin beige foam on the surface. Flavor: Weak nuttiness; toasted bread crust; date-like sweetness; cocoa-dryness; out of place fruity quality; nothing really stands out. Palate: Medium-light; watery. Overall: WEAK; disappointing and quite boring. Sample at Trader Joe’s in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rating #146 for this beer.
3.3 Dark Brown, Good Head, Decent Lacing. Sweet Toasted Malt, Light Hop Aroma. Taste about the same: Sweet, toasted Malt, Light Hop Finish. Slightly Dull. Decent.
3.0 Bottle @ Greg’s house picked up in the Midwest. Pours a reddish brown appearance with a light brown head. Caramel, nutty toffee dessert bar, light apple aroma. Somewhat thin and a bit watery. Decent drinking, somewhat toasty malty, bland caramel flavor. Not bad but bland.
3.4 Oh sweet choco brown ale beer of glory. I try this at the recommend of my der friend Mudabbir who love beer, sexy lady and fun. We try this together and sip from sweet mug with much ice and frost like polar region which i visit recent. I taste sweet roast nuts and other glorious flavours in this delish brown beer.
3.2 Bottle. Thanks SJ. Some nice nice notes of roasted, burnt malts and nuts. The finish was roast and caramel. It was ok. The blend could have been better.
3.7 Good brown ale that is priced at a bargain. Taste and aroma is a little light and mouthfeel is a little thin but overall better then the Anniversary ale and worth buying again for the price.
