3.4 12oz bottle - For some reason when I shop at TJ’s, the IPA is always out. This time, for $5.99 a six-pack and it’s on the shelf..yeah....a no-brainer. To the beer starts out with a nice sniff of hops. Nothing really specific or that I could zero in on, just hops. It’s rather odd that nothing really stands out, but it’s like smelling a bag of hops just taken out of the cooler. Flavor has medium bitterness to it, with a very light (thank you) crystal malt profile. The guys at Firestone let the hops be the star, and the beer is better because of it. The malts are there, make no mistake and it’s a bready-like sweetness to it. Mouthfeel is nice, evenly balanced. Nothing to get worked-up over, but a solidly built beer, easy to enjoy on a warm March afternoon and the price is oh-so right.
3.0 Bottle at Andrew’s today, 11.05.2014. Clean IPA, medium-low hop bitterness, almost no aftertaste - easy drinker and cheap as hell apparently. Definitely wouldn’t mind another. Didn’t get a good look, no glass.
3.4 12 oz can. (Trader Joe’s) Greenville, SC. Clear amber golden colour with a small frothy white head. Fruity and sweet hops, mild bitterness and some maltiness in the aroma. The flavour is some bitterness, fruitiness and some floral hops. Quite drinkable. A bit boring.
3.5 Hazy orange with a thick white head. Pine but mostly citrus. Medium bodied and affordable.
2.9 355ml bottle. Amber appearance nice head and nice lacing. SMell is sweet with fruit resinous hops. Flavor has a sweet icing like component to it, infact a very sweet ipa. Not sure on the dating of this but it doens’t grip me.
4.2 You can’t get more down the middle than this Ipa--but you won’t see me complaining about that. This is a bright orange beer. It’s had is long lasting and foamy with lots of patchy lace. There is big citrus and pine in the nose asking with a bit of tropical fruit. This is full bodied and a little bit sweet which highlights the fruity notes from the hops as well as a touch of lavender. There is a touch of toasty malt character witch comes out in the long resinous finish. I could drink this all day, well done beer.
3.2 "the best of the mission st beers. definitely not a standout in a talented ipa field, but a nice budget pick. floral and spicy hops with a firm malt backbone. for a buck, can’t go wrong here at Trader Joes."
3.3 Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Modern Times pint glass From: Trader Joe’s in Mission Valley (San Diego), Calif. Price: $5.99 for a 6-pack Purchased: Aug. 26, 2014 Consumed: Aug. 29, 2014 Misc.: Born on June 27, 2014 at 11:23 a.m. Poured a caramel, honey, orange semi-hazy color with two fingers of off-white head. Below average spots of wet foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Below average retention on the top of the glass. (Sight - 3.82) Smelled citrus hops, tropical hops, melon, resin, wet hops, earthy, rye notes, soapiness, lime and caramel. (Smell - 3.60) Tasted pretty close to the smell. Got citrus hops, grapefruit rind, floral hops, earthy rye notes, soapiness, lime, pine, slight resin and caramel. (Taste - 3.71) Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, citrusy finish. Pretty good feel. (Feel - 3.89) A decent IPA and a great beer for the value ($5.99). I’d have this again, but I do prefer their pale ale. (Overall - 3.75) 3.72 84 B
3.5 Slightly malty nose, not hoppy, slight fruitiness. Pours a coppery amber. Pleasant bitterness, but no true noble hop flavor. Good finish, a slight bitter harshness. Overall, a good brew and a bargain at its price point at Trader Joe’s. Won’t win any gold medals, but I could drink this every day.
3.3 Nice floral hop aroma. Balance of nice malt and hops. Pretty good for house brand.
3.6 Mission St. IPA has a thin, cream-colored head, a mostly clear, somewhat bubbly, orange appearance, and a little bit of lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of piney hop resin, and the flavor is of that, plus sweet white bread. Bitterness is moderate. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and Mission St. IPA finishes semi-dry, easy drinking, and refreshing. RJT
3.3 Deep gold pour with white head. Aromas of sweet barley, grapefruit and spruce. Flavour has good malt backing with grapefruit and tangerine. Finish is has a light bitterness, fruity, sweet.
3.4 when i bought it i did not expect much...bottle from trader joes for a buck...actually a very good citrus hop blend...pleasantly surprised.
3.5 Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a deep amber colored body with a one finger white head. The head lasted a good half minute and leaves some minimal spiderweb lacing. The smell had some hops forward with some pine and malty/bready aspects coming slightly as the beer warms. The taste had a good combination of malts and hops. The palate sat about a medium on the body with nothing harsh on the tongue other than a normal American IPA bitter feel, fairly drinkable. Overall, this is a pretty good beer which is easy on the wallet. Though its nothing to scream about, it gets the job done as far as a decent priced American IPA.
3.6 Clear and amber colour with a fat bubbled white head. Very hoppy aroma with citrus and lighter pineapple and pinecones. On the palate it is bitter enough and classicially styled if a tad boring for the style. Decent.
3.7 bottled 1/8/14 bought at trader joe’s for $1.25. pours light amber, off white head. pine, tropical fruits, light caramel. solid bitterness. yeah.
3.6 Floral hop aroma and caramel malt. Taste is caramel malt with a sweetish finish and bitter on the sides of the tongue. Full flavored and pretty good. A bit on the malty side, but good.
4.5 Bottle from trader joe’s. Aromas of tropical fruit, herbs, honey. Taste is sweet and bitter, very well balanced.
3.7 For the price, this is awesome, not ranking up there with stone and "premium" IPAs, but its pretty close, 6.99 a six, value is a 10 on this, crisp, clean golden color, pretty hoppy but not over the top, nice bitterness and hits you at the end as well....very nice.
2.9 Decent IPA, nothing crazy, super cheap from trader joes so i’ll take it, okay
3.4 Surprise AZ TJ’s bottle marked 10/17/2013 so about 3 months old, not bad. Nice clear bronze color with a medium, khaki head. Big aroma of sprucey hops but almost overpowered by syrupy malt. Balanced flavor, sweet malt with pleasantly bitter hops. Surprisingly quick finish with no real lingering bitterness. Nothing amazing but pretty good considering it cost me $1/bottle...for a Firestone Walker product!
2.7 355mL thanks to Dedicatedtofun! Clear orange with lower white foam. Nose is big cheesy, cheesecloth, nutty, nut oil, chlorine, cantaloupe. Taste is dusty, bland, lemon tea, tea bag.
3.0 Pour from bottle at Jennifer Jackowskis house. Amber pour with minimal off white head. Pretty good but not a clean finish and a bit malty
3.4 Glad i found this IPA, great taste and a nice orange red color with a small head and solid hop notes!
3.6 12 oz. bottle poured to a Czech-pils glass, displaying a hazed, orangey gold color, with rapidly diminishing, soft white head foam, and etched-like lacing. The nose was perfumey citrus as orange & ruby grapefruit, some caramelly malt sweetness, and a touch of piney resin on the back. The taste presented similar notes, with decent malt tempering the expressive, citrusy & rindy hop bitterness with some underlying sweetness. Medium bodied, with appropriate carbonation, and a crisp & bitter finish. A tasty, no frills example of the style.
3.4 Firestone Walker’s disavowed child. For 5.99 a six pack at td joes, hard to imagine a better beer. Best bargain beer out there, I must say. Nothing out of the ordinary: prominent hop aroms with plenty of citrus, with a dry and bitter mouthfeel. Pours a dark amber, and has a got bit of malt, and some sweetness. Very balanced, and very drinkable. Gotta love Firestone.
3.6 Bottle from Trader Joe’s in Tallahassee. Gold pour, thin white head. Aroma is pleasant caramel malt, floral and citrus. Tastes follow suit. Crisp, slightly woody, little resiny, pine. Nice enough.
3.2 aroma of citrus, cereal, caramel sauce, pine sap, grapefruit. pours burnt orange/copper, with white head, little lacing. tastes of citrus and fruit hops accompanied by bread and caramel. grapefruit, apricot and pear notes. palate is sharp and dry, very clear, bitter into aftertaste. overall, a fruity ipa with a distinctively dry palate.
3.3 Squat, west coast longneck. Clear orange beer, small off white head. West coast hops, candy in the tangy aroma. Eh -- average AIPA all round. Not bad, not remarkable within the style. Slightly heavy body, citrusy finish. Trader Joe’s Tallahassee.
3.4 Tallahassee, Fl - Trader Joe’s - 12 oz bottle. Pours a nice sparkling medium copper with a thin light off-white head. Aroma has a nice spruce essence to it with a hint of maple syrup. Flavor is full-bodied with some juicy bittersweet citrusy notes, a touch of caramel and maple syrup sweetness, some nectarine-like fruitiness. Mouthfeel is thick enough, Quite a steal for $1.34!
