Moa Breakfast

Moa Breakfast

Moa Breakfast is a European style beer brewed with a blend of premium wheat malt and a variety of floral hops. A very refreshing lager with an abundance of cherry character and aromas, Moa Breakfast is more commonly enjoyed as a mid-afternoon beverage here in New Zealand. Although not always.

Tasting Notes

Moa Breakfast is a wheat beer based lager with a subtle, sweet cherry aroma and taste. Hints of almond, banana and vanilla characters can also be detected. Low bitterness levels and an absence of strong malt characters emphasise these fruit flavours. Moa Breakfast can either be poured carefully off the lees or alternatively with the lees mixed in if a stronger yeast character is desired. Moa Breakfast is best served at approximately 4°C in a pilsner glass.

4.1 12.7 Fl OZ ($4.99) very unique beer. has a lot going on in the flavor department. comes off as a champagne rather than a beer. flavor is good.
3.2 [6468-20140708] Bottle. Fragrant fruity cherry liquorice aroma. Slightly hazy, pale yellow body with a quick foamy white head. Light syrupy cherry flavour. Light-medium body. Interesting. (6/3/7-/3/13) 3.2 (Tasting at cgarvieuk’s, w/ him, BenH, jercraigs, Stuu666, others)
3.9 375 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lightly tart cherry, lemon, white grape, white wine, berries, wheat, cracker, herbal, floral, grass, and herbal/floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bright/floral hops, cherry, and pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of lightly tart cherry, lemon, white grape, white wine, berries, wheat, cracker, herbal, floral, grass, and herbal/floral earthiness. Fair amount of earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of cherry, lemon, white grape, white wine, berries, wheat, cracker, grass, and herbal/floral earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Very nice balance and complexity of bright/earthy hops, cherry, and pale malt flavors; with a nice crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and fairly dry mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice fruited lager style. All around good balance, robustness, and complexity of bright/earthy hops, cherry, and pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
3.3 500ml corked bottle from Puerto Rico Food & Wine, no pop on opening or bottle date. Pours a clear orangey tan with a ring of a white head. Lowly carbonated. Aroma has sweet fruits, in an interesting combination. Plus some grain and spice. Taste is of sweet fruits, of an unrecognizable flavor, some tangy spice and a touch of earthiness. A bit like sweet tarts in some ways. Light to medium bodied. Finishes tangy and sweet. Shrug? Light and interesting. 12.9
3.4 Nice citrus fruity aroma, good cloudy wheat beer, highly carbonated, a bit skunky smell, but not skunky flavor. Good on a hot day. Refreshing
3.4 "Quite the interesting brew that I really didn’t expecting from and found myself pleasantly surprised by its uniqueness. The only thing I thought going in was fruity pebbles, which I was told it tasted like. Didn’t know a style (still don’t really). Upon the pour initial aroma is perfumey hops... Then some hard to place light fruitiness atop a nice, light refreshing body. Taste similar, but also has a hint of vanilla and is slightly more obviously cherries. "
3.0 Pours a fairly clear solar yellow with a thick eggshell head. Aroma is more fruity than wheaty, not strong, but inviting. Wheaty flavor has a firm fruity note, equal parts pear and citrus, a bit thin but still refreshing. Texture has average thickness and not a whole lot of fizz. Well, have it for breakfast.
3.7 Best before July 24, 2014. Glass: Duvel tulip. Appearance: Clear golden body with a dense and creamy white head. Aroma: Big sweet cherry, bordering on medicinal and candy. There’s a hint of tartness with some banana and vanilla as well. This smells nice, but a bit too pungent with the cherries and a bit too medicinal. Taste: Big bold banana, cherry and vanilla. The finish lingers a bit of Dum-Dum Cherry Pop. Palate: Creamy and full. Overall: Overall this is a very pleasant beer that is bold in fruit flavors with a great mouthfeel. I would like this fresher to really gauge it, but it drinks fine now.
3.2 Actually, a nice refreshing beer, could see it being a good breakfast beer, like a mimosa almost. Pours a gross clear yellow. Smells great, tropical fruit, grapefruit and white cherry. Taste is lots of fruit, peach, cherry and tropical flavors. A white wine aftertaste. Smooth and refreshing. Had in the bottle.
3.4 2014-07-08. Hazy yellow body small white head. 3+ Aroma is quite fruity, sort of banana meets cherry. Flavour is quite fruity, sort of banana like, cherry when I look for it. Average bodied palate, soft carbonation. Mild but quaffable. Bottle, Tasting at cgarvieuk’s, Edinburgh
2.9 Bottle pours a mostly clear pale yellow color with a foamed white head. Zero lacing until you give the beer a gentle swirl and even then the head disappears after only a few seconds. Aroma and flavor are sweet and fruity, but in an artificial way reminiscent of Smarties candy or something else similar. Champagne-like mouthfeel that is fairly dry.
3.5 Bottle at Craig’s. Pours golden, floral orange and peach nose, quite fruity and dry taste, floral.
3.4 bottle at home ... golden amber ... thin white lacing ... soft sweet floral orange ...light medicinal cherry fruit nose ... soft fizzy zezt ... banana bakewell ... wierd .. not bad ... but something not quite right for me.
3.9 Bottle. Golden with white head. Big cherry aroma up front, some banana. Taste of cherry and banana, some earthy wheat. Crisp and refreshing. I like this
3.0 (375ml bottle) Pours a lightly hazy golden body with a moderate white head. Aroma of florals, cherry, wheat, and orange. Flavor of wheat, lime, apple, almond, toffee, and cherry.
2.9 Pours a straw-golden color with a well-retaining white head. Gimmicky, fake cherry aroma dominates. Thin mouthfeel with some astringency. Cherry flavor is less obtrusive than the nose. Drinks pretty nicely, actually.
2.2 12.7 fl oz bottle from Potsdam NY, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. App.: Clear light golden with a white rim. Aroma: Hugely fruity, lots of bubble gum, tropical fruits, oddly medicinal cherry, booze?, odd. Palate: Medium-ish body, moderate to low carbonation. Flav.: More cherry than anything else, oddly dusty/peppery, bubble gum, synthetic rubber?, light tropical fruits, still quite odd; dry with decent bitterness and a very fruity, cherry finish. I don’t get this one. Breakfast? Cough syrup and bubble gum for breakfast?
3.1 Bottle pour. Very clear golden color with little head. Great fruity aroma with cherries and bananas. Silky on the palate. Initial fruit taste, but progresses to a slight bitter taste.
2.6 Bottle pour. Pours a pale yellow. Very fruity aroma from a distance. Very champagne like with a lot of fruit flavors, including cherry, and orange. Very unique beer. Interesting.
2.9 pours hazy very pale yellow with a small bubbly-spritzy white head, some retention and lacing. wheat, sweet and artificial cherries - cherry and powdery candies, perfumey fruits - oranges and bananas - awkward, pils, sulfur - other oxidized notes. lively to average carbonation, light body, sweetish but also slightly bitter-astringent herbal-grassy-citrusy finish. original and unpleasant. DP.
4.0 An excellent beer that would be perfect for a breakfast champagne! Very citrusy and fruity aroma and flavor. Good crisp taste and finish. Nice carbonation but lacking a head. Sweet bananas and mango flavors. Very nice brew!
3.0 Pours golden with a bubbly white head that quickly fades to a ring. Got a bit of sediment in the glass which made it cloudy. Aroma of cherry, banana, yeast and pine. Taste is hops, some cereal, cherry, mild bitterness and lots of sweetness, some hints of herbs also. It’s pretty pleasant but also quite a strange beer.
2.9 The bottle looked really nice from whole foods so i grabbed it. it did not perform however. too thin with no real flavors.
2.7 Pale gold. Fruity aroma with champagne like palate. Firewood, banana, slight smoke. Sticky mouthfeel that lasts on the tongue. Big fruit is the theme of this brew leaning well towards the sweet side. Very low hop bitterness gives it a slight dry finish that has a Chipotle like peppery taste.
2.4 Sample at Falling Rock. Hazy straw color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of malt, fruit and wheat in the nose. Light-bodied with flavors of fruity wheat, grainy malt and vanilla. The finish is malty up front with an off fruit aftertaste. Below average overall.
3.4 @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Hazy dirty golden amber with a thin head cover, light streaks of lace. Aroma reminds me of a kolsch, or maybe a European pilsner. Taste begins with wheat and citrus and bubble gum, which gives way to earthy bitterness and carbonation. The finish plays like a simple Belgian Ale. A really odd combination, but it is refreshing as a spring afternoon brew. If this is a fruit beer, I need to taste something fruity.
1.8 Poured at tasting. A yellow with some head and some lace. Aroma was..... I really don’t know what to say here. This was the oddest aroma, maybe some grass. Taste was just as odd, I did not pick up anything I could I could say it was. Some one else said it was like drinking an air freshner and I think that’s pretty close. Not offensive just weird.
3.3 Very fruity, blueberry, pomegranate. Light, yellow color, small white head. Taste is pasty fruit. Hay. Not bad for breakfast or early in the day, but any more would be painful. Update...4-pack on vacation, hilton head, sc. Enjoying quite a bit. 2.9 up to 3.3.
2.3 > A Fabreeze flavored blonde [ Bottle ][ DedicatedToFun ][ 375mL ][ 7venth Sun Mini Globe ][ Tasting ][ 2/22/14 ] >> Thanks DTF for the share. Pours a full haze straw, great foam. Soapy lacing. Nose is intense fruit punch, popsicle, juice box. Taste is very chemical, essentially eating an air freshener refill pouch. Palate is soapy, I’m sure there is a normal beer below all the adjunct chemical, but it is lost. I highly doubt this was the intended flavor. extreme chemical
3.1 Pours pale and clear. Small white top, not very thick. Aroma is bubblegum and candy, mixed with some sour cherry lemonade. More sweet candy in that mixture. Taste is actually not as sweet as the aroma hints. There is still some bubblegum and sour cherry lemonade - but also some hop bitterness. It does not feel very balanced though, aftertaste is somewhat rough and feels pretty short. Not really my cup of tea - but I guess there is a place for this kind of beer also. Is it refreshing - for sure.
