Moa South Pacific IPA

Moa South Pacific IPA

Moa South Pacific I.P.A. is a New Zealand take on a popular North American beer style. Using famous Cascade and Nelson Sauvin hops, the dominant features in this beer are unique to New Zealand and the Moa bottle conditioned brewing method. Its hoppy strength displays powerful floral, citrus and tropical notes backed up with a strong malt backbone.

3.5 From a bottle. A well made and classic example of the style, lots of hops but balanced with nice biscuit malt body.
3.2 Deep orange pour. Aroma of lychee and light citrus. Flavor of lychee and caramel. Pretty good.
2.9 Bottle. Erupted. Dirty bronze, little light protrudes. Big pile of foam. Earthy nose, bordering on the sour. Drinks with a funky essence without seeming infected. Not what I’d expected. Without a date stamp, I’d call it "rural." (#6143, 2/27/2016)
2.8 This is okay. My father rated it a 3.9 (luvystypotables) and I disagree. It’s light it’s boring it’s commercial. Very drinkable. Very lights.
3.8 330ml bottle at Beer station, Xiamen on 16 Jan. Pours hazy orange with a white head. Aroma of citrus and fruit. Very bitter finish. No pine in this one, a little different but nice.
2.9 From a 330ml bottle on 2/1/2015. Pours a murky dark golden with a biggish head. Has a light aroma of caramel and biscuit malt, along with a bit of fruit. Flavour wise, there’s some sweet citrus fruit which is quickly bludgeoned into submission by a very firm, quite salty bitterness. Not much else is going on. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A bit blunt and agricultural. Quite disappointing.
3.5 Cor de cobre, levemente turva. Espuma média de média duração. Aroma herbáceo e cítrico. Amarga, com notas cítricas de laranja, e um leve toque de gengibre e menta. Retrogosto amargo de longa duração.
2.4 Poured from a bottle. Cloudy copper color with lots of residue, medium white head. Light musky malt aroma. Medium body with a musky malt flavor and a medium finish.
3.9 Aroma of fruit, citrus, and hops, pours a clear pale copper color. Delicious balanced taste of hops, fruit and citrus. Medium body with a pleasant fruit finish.
3.3 Bottle to tulip This bottle exploded, despite my careful uncorking, so it poured a cloudy amber with a huge 5cm, very frothy off white head with some staying power. Aroma is hay, grass, rye, and some light tropical fruit. Taste is sour and bitter with grassy notes.
3.1 Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Tom L. As Moa Pale Ale. As Moa Pale Ale. Hazy amber with a white head. Old, grain, biscuit and some pine aroma. Old hops, soft bitterness. Juicy, light body, mild bitter finish.
2.9 Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Tom L. As Moa Pale Ale. Cloudy golden. Stale hops aroma. Flavor of bitterish hops, citric, a bit "green", and slightly stale, with slightly harsh bitterness. Medium-bodied.
3.2 i like the hops used, but way too much carbonation in this bottle conditioned brew. it takes away from the feel and flavor, and foams like a dusty belgian. fruity NZ hops take center stage, but overall average at best.
3.9 330 ml bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Very highly carbonated upon opening, but not infected. I let it dissipate before drinking. Pours moderate hazy/cloudy orange/amber color with a 2-3 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with outstanding retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemon, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, peach, light pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/tropical hops and moderate malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of big lemon, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, peach, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, peach, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a god bit. Damn nice complexity, balance, and robustness of citrus/tropical hops and moderate malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a very nice pale ale style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical hops and moderate malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
3.4 My favourite Moa brew, this is well balanced with floral hops and lingering bitterness. 1 bottle in the 6 pack was a hint overripe. Good to see some sediment and authenticity in a commercial craft beer
3.0 Pours amber/orange with a fluffy, persistent head. On palate, bittering hops eclipse aroma hops from from to finish. Dank, earthy hops suggest an English style rather than an APA. Overall, for those who like a bitter, earthy PA.
4.1 Bottle into IPA glass. Pours a cloudy light amber colour. Aroma is tropical fruits. Taste Is tropical fruit with some nice malt balance. Great beer.-- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10
2.9 Bottle. Pours a cloudy lighter amber color with a moderately thick off-white head on there. There is some floral and grassy notes to the aroma, but it smells a bit stale, like it’s sat on the shelf too long. Taste is somewhat bitter, but again, does not really come across fresh. OK, but not much to grab onto here.
2.4 750ml champagne bottle into pint glass. Fruity hop nose, dry spice earth. Very cloudy almost copper colour. Solid white head. Medium body followed by short sharp hop finish. S’alright.
3.2 Rebranded Southern Pacific IPA and according to a sales rep, it was given more of a hop kick. Pours sunset orange with a white head that doesn’t stick around for the party. Aroma is mostly floral with some citrus notes. Taste is malt balanced for the style but the Nelson Sauvin hops come through with their fruity floral notes. Not quite full bodied with moderate carbonation and a sweetish finish.
3.5 Poured from 12z bottle at Oak + Char. It had massive foam problems. Once I could smelll and Taste it it was fine. Spicy tropical aroma. Good hops and a citrus taste. Would have again
3.7 Pours a cloudy orangey copper with a massive white head that takes forever to settle and leaves tons of lace. Aroma is pale malts, Belgian yeast, lightly spicy, and faint citrus. Flavour is Belgian yeast, spicy, citrus, grass, pale malts, and a mild-medium bitterness.
3.7 Pours an over carbonated hazy orangish copper with a huge frothy white head. Aroma of grass, pale malts, tropical fruits and citrus. Taste is pine, tropical fruits, white wine, complex bitterness and white wine type dryness that make this ipa awesome. Overall it’s complex, malty, hoppy and slightly medicinal but all in balance with no harshness.
3.1 330ml bottle. Medium gold, white head. Malty, hoppy aroma, citrus peel, spruce, gooseberries, caramel. Dry, medium body and bitterness, creamy CO2. Hoppy, quite malty taste, resin, citrus peel, light caramel. Quite smooth and well balanced. (2014-09-24)
3.0 Highly carbonated, hoppy, bitter floral flavor, minor citrus overtones, lingering hops on the back of the pallet
3.2 330ml bottle super foamy head murky gold as per the label this is all hops with lingering bitter finish
2.7 Appearance: golden yellow orange. Above average white head. Aroma: some hops, not much else. Taste. Pine ,hops. Ash. 4th quarter. seahawks 29, packers 10.
3.5 Bottle at home from Cellar Balckrock. Subtle aroma peach, citrus, tangerine. Lots of peach, citrus and tangerine flavour. Its quite highly carbonated and light bodied but has plenty of flavour. Nice fruity carbonated punch on finish. This is nice.
3.2 Poured from bottle to glass. Golden hue with thick creamy white head that lingered. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, orange, rosemary, grassy. Mouthfeel is nice with a medium body and crisp carbonation. Taste is dry sweetness initially with nice bitter following and clean finish. Overall this is a decent brew.
3.6 Bottle. Massive head that took a long time to dissipate.Yellow and slightly cloudy. Hoppy at first then a bitter finish creeps in. That head which had to be ploughed through spoilt this one. Apart from that it was fairly average.
