Modern Times Fortunate Islands

Modern Times Fortunate Islands

Fortunate Islands shares the characteristics of a hoppy IPA and an easy drinking wheat beer. A massive dose of Citra and Amarillo hops gives it a blastwave of tropical hop aromatics: mango, tangerine, and passionfruit all leap out of the glass when poured. Brewed with 60% wheat malt, Fortunate Islands also has the mild, nutty malt backbone, reasonable ABV, and restrained bitterness to make it an outstanding session beer.

3.3 Can: Poured a orange with white head. Aroma is light fruit, hoppy, citrus. Taste is soft juicy citrus hops, mellows, grain backbone.
3.3 Quite clear golden orange pour with a two finger white head. Subtle hoppy and fruity aroma but the malts are pretty dominant in this one. Some caramel there also. Medium sweet and halfway medium bitter. Medium bodied, somewhat watery finish with medium fizzies. Still a surprisingly tasty beer though. Summer wheat fields in a glass.
3.6 Clear pour. Thin foamy head. Wheat and malt nose. Wheat mixrd with malty flavor. Easy carbonation.
2.9 Grass and pencil shavings aroma. Crystal clear amber, medium head. Grass. Medium body, easy carbonation.

4.5 Golden, clean, off-white beerhead, and frothy, creamy and medium foam. Ok retention. Malty and hops have a great balance, typical citrus and tergerine, also bread and biscuit. Medium sweetness, soft carbonation, medium bitterness and crispy touch. Highly recommended
4.0 Very unique tasting ipa with wheat beer tasting... a very balance one
3.8 A fine tasting IPA, with lots of subtle, light, and crisp hop flavors. Not overdoing it at all.
3.8 Wow. Very interesting brew. Wheaty backbone with IPA aroma. A fortunate fusion that didn't go wrong 🤣 Very short finish though. Decent.
3.6 Very IPA-like aroma. Citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruits. Golden amber with a gorgeous, tall, thick white head, that recedes slowly with a rocky, uneven surface, leaving good looking lacing. Great look in the weizen glass with the rising bubbles. The malts ensure that this is definitely a wheat beer; the wheat base makes its slightly spicy presence known, but the hops are (as with the aroma) very IPA-like. Tropical fruits, with the citrus elements are more subdued than in the aroma, but still the main show. Moderately bitter through the middle and into the aftertaste, with the bitterness lingering longer than the other elements of the flavor. Refreshing, crisp, and dry in the finish. The body is thin to moderate, with the carbonation tingling the mouth. Overall, it is a good, well done, ale, but I guess I'm not sure what the brewer was intending with this beer. It is a refreshing beer, and I'll enjoy the other 3 in the 4-pack, but it is not what I would buy if I was seeking an APA; additionally, it has IPA elements, but it is not what I would buy if I wanted an IPA, either, and the wheat presence is there in the feel and somewhat spicy flavor, but, again, if I want a wheat beer, I wouldn't buy this due to the IPA flavor and aroma. I guess the combination just does not do it for me.
3.4 [On tap at the first birthday party at the Encinitas outlet.] A hazy amber pour with a ring of cream head; tropical fruit aroma; crisp tropical fruit taste, slightly sour and very refreshing; then a dry citrusy finish. Very good.
3.4 On tap at Champps in Brookfield. Very clear pour. Grassy, tangy fruit nose. Taste follows, but is much lighter, and a bit malty somehow. Thin finish. 13.2
3.7 Ordered online from LCBO, nice hoppy pale ale, a bit diluted, but overall, fairly good.
3.2 Draft. Hazed godl porur. Alot of dankness and grapefruit spaice aroma , mostly grapefruit flavor, some sweet lemon lime, not overly sweet.
3.5 This pale ale poured a cloudy, light amber colour with a creamy, bright white head. Medium lacing. Scents include citrus hops, being pineapple and orange. Perfume, cooked veggies and honey most prominent. First swig was really creamy with nice hop bitterness being that nice citrus flavour, a little honey and a bit of cereal. Finish is the perfect amount of hops in the creamiest beer I think I have ever had. Delicious !
3.9 Delicious hoppy citrus flavour, hazy with nice bitter hit. I’m liking this one!
4.0 Hazy yellow pour, white head. Crisp, citrus aroma. Flavor is clean, crisp citrus with a very drinkable body.
3.7 澄清的标准黄色。开罐的时候非常香。味道是微酸加上酒花香,很微妙。就是有些贵。
3.3 Aroma is orange, wheat, grapefruit. Taste is wheat, grapefruit, pepper and yeast.
3.5 From a can to glass. Pours a hazy amber orange color with a huge frothy creamy head. Aroma is Citrusy tropical fruits upfront, Guava, tangerines, oranges, grapefruit, slight floral, lemon, pineapple, grapefruit, slight earthy herbal hop note and slight pine. Taste follows the aroma well with a lot of the tropical fruit notes diminished in the sip and aroma a saison type note taking over and killing this beer for me. Not into it. $11 4 pint cans. Very thin bodied and thin flavor. 3.5 stars out of 5 for me. Its not bad but not good.
3.6 16oz can from TW. Hazy orange with a thin off-white head and spotty lacing. Orange, mango, lemon, wheat, grain, honey, grass. Medium carb with a medium-full body. Medium juicy finish, floral hops, earth. Not typical, but very tasty.
3.5 Can pour into nonic pint glass from Total Wine & More, Shrewsbury. Appearance is lightly hazy orange-gold with nice sparkle, finger-width fizzy white head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is lemony citrus with significant wheat/malt counterbalance. Taste is sweet tropical fruit, citrus, milder wheat and late tart fruit. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, soft-to-average carbonation and finish as taste with light yeasty tart fruit and mild bitterness. Overall, the taste is where the hops really shine but don't carry through to the finish, which ends too bitter. Enjoyable and interesting for a wheat beer.
3.6 Pint can from State Line. Nose tropical fruit (mango, pineapple) with pine, whet, grapefruit rind. Woody and slightly dank with a touch of soap, some lemon and orange. Pour clear golden-orange with just a hint of haze, head is sudsy off-white. Taste wheat, light-medium sweet and slightly drying, touch of astringency there for certain, but generally low bitterness. Touch of grit and crystal. Crisp, clean, very well-articulated, defined; medium body and quite drinkable, very strong Citra comes to dominate but there's an ideal mild backbone suitable for any APA. Plus across the board, doesn't really hit plus-plus anywhere, though -- a desirable all-'rounder. [2019.05.06: 3.6]
3.3 Draft at a Whole Foods in Arlington while the wife is downstairs shopping. A crisp, hoppy light bodied pale. More of a SIPA as there is little if any malt presence.
3.4 Can from the brewery - golden color, white head. easy and round wheat ale. the hops were not too great with my cans, the wheat charcter is pretty massive. its a beer for the hot days, and as such it was perfect!
3.7 Can pour with an orange gold hue. Tropical aroma of pineapple and guava. Bitter up front with a hint of lemon and then notes of pineapple, green apple and quince. On the lighter side body wise so it is very drinkable.
3.6 473ml can. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a medium, creamy, long lasting, off-white head that laces nicely. Sweet fruity aroma of wheat malt, caramel, mango, pineapple, peach, orange peel and grapefruit. Sweet fruity flavour of wheat malt, mango, peach, melon, tangerine, orange peel and grapefruit with a crisp, dry, mild bitter, spicy hop finish. Medium body with a smooth, oily texture and average carbonation. Hoppy, flavourful and easy drinking. An excellent Wheat Ale.
3.7 Draft at Tria Taproom. Murky orange gold with a lasting thick white head. Modest hoppy wheat ale. Woody citrus florals. Silky body. Passionfruit. Dried lemons. Gooseberry. Squash blossoms. Tree gum. Faint kumquat. Interesting full palate. Goes down easy but worth sipping.
4.0 12/23/18 (Las Vegas, NV): $3.78 w/ tax 16 oz can, canned 7/1/18 purchased at Total Wine & More in Summerlin, poured into a large snifter. Golden murky pour, rich creamy head, heavy carbonation. Citrus and tangerine the predominate aromas arising from the hops. Light citrus hops taste, slight bitterness, crisp ad clean finish. Overall very good IPA.
