Modern Times Lomaland

Modern Times Lomaland

Lomaland is Belgian-style saison that’s both complex and quaffable. In keeping with the farmhouse tradition, Lomaland is brewed with barley, wheat, and corn, giving it a complex and delicious malt body that pairs beautifully with food. Czech Saaz hops are added in the kettle to give it a lightly grassy, peppery note and just enough bitterness to cleanse the palate. It’s distinctively rustic, earthy aroma comes from the unique blend of traditional Belgian yeast strains (95% Dupont/5% Westmalle) we use to ferment it.

3.9 Clear light golden hue under a thin foamy white head. Bright estery and slightly papaya nose with light Belgian grains and malt and a faux bubblegum undertone. Crisp bright flavor that’s light and mellow with banana and bubblegummy Belgian esters with a little papaya and faux tropical delicacies.

4.0 Pint can. Hay aroma with notes of cracker malt, pepper and earthy yeast. Pours clear pale golden colored with a half a finger of white head that has excellent retention and good lacing. Starts with hay and crackery malt flavors with notes of corn. Finishes dry, smooth and quite refreshing with peppery spice, Earth yeasty and a hint of bright citrus. Really nice saison.

3.7 Brilliant tight white head stayed on a finely carbonated, hazy, dark lemon coloured body. Fresh aroma with lemon, spices, citrus, yeast & outdoors. Medium bodied, airy on the palate & sharper on the back. Cloying. Taste is much as the aroma with bitter/sweet citrus, yeast, spice & quite hippy with a light pepper finish.
3.2 10-09-17 // draft, tasting paddle at BrewDog Shoreditch. Hazy yellow. Mild belgian yeasty, mild peppery, mild tartness, some grians.
3.1 Poured from the tap. Clear golden yellow with minimal white head. Very mild, almost watery, light yeast and citrus with hint of grass. Would like to try this again because I'm not sure if it's an issue with the bar's taps.
4.5 Superb, refreshing and moreish
3.5 Draft pour in SF at Fat Angel. Pours gold with a nice white head. Nose is lemon and damp grass. Medium body. Flavor is fruity and the finish is a bit funky. Tasty and good.
3.1 (1 pint can) Pours a slightly murky, straw-yellow beer, with steady medium carbonation, and a fluffy white head. At first glance, the beer is fairly unattractive. There is a lot of corn in the aroma, but the Belgian yeast and malted wheat bring out finer flavours: honey, caramel, crème brûlée, vanilla, pear, banana, and clove. The taste is a little sour, with a distinct cider vinegar tang. Light, slick, and lively on the palate. The Dupont and Westmalle yeast strains are what make this beer. Modern Times have put a modern spin on this classic Belgian style. Some work still needed to be done, to make the most of the aromas at hand.
3.4 Can at draft house. Pale saison with a lovely head residing. Scent is cider, interestingly. Taste is saison with a nice soft, floral body with notes of sort of caramel. Apples here arent super enjoyable. Lovely. Very fluffy. Great, if end of life.
3.2 473ml can. Pours a cloudy blond with a large, frothy, long lasting, white head that laces nicely. Aroma of wheat, lemon peel, floral, pepper and yeast. Sweet flavour of wheat, orange, lemon, corn, bread, floral, pepper and yeast with a dry, bitter grass finish. Light to medium body with a smooth, oily texture and average carbonation. Nice.
3.7 Taster MT North Park. Pale yellow, grassy herby aroma, soft. No head. Dry and peppery taste , not much grassy herby taste. Kinda a farmhouse lager, but that's not a criticism. Goddamn drinkable, mainly due to a really good mouthfeel. Atypical but good.
3.2 Golden body with a full, lathery cover. Zesty, yeasty. bready profusion greets the nose, with perhaps some soapy notes. Grassy body with some herbal hops and liquid bread undercurrent. Toward the finish, a banana-lemon note lingers on the palate.
3.9 Can from Hops and Crafts Exeter. Pours clear lemon/pale gold with a white head. Aroma of hay, straw, banana, clove & fresh bread. Taste is more hay, banana, fresh doughy bread ,farmyard & lemon. 3.4 Can. Pours a bright golden yellow pour with a mountain of white head. Very clear, but clouds up a touch with the last pour. Aroma is a light earthy note with some yeast. Tastes of lightly sweet fruity yeast, some earthy floral and dusty farmhouse flavors.
3.5 On tap. Light golden with a thin quick white head. Light and subtle French/ Belgian yeast character. Sift farmhouse flavors and a light body. Subtle and tasty
3.7 The first saison I've ever enjoyed. Nothing off putting, and the rounding off of the light fruity flavor was pleasing. Nothing jumping out.
3.5 Really good basic saison. Not too tangy and has a great mouthfeel. A bit of spice but refreshing.
3.7 1 pint can. Pours bright yellow. Lemon, passionfruit, minerals, peach, bread, light funk, pepper. Nice light body. Very refreshing and tasty too.
3.1 Low gravity and chewy. Lots of grains and the beery Saaz hops are fresh and crisp, which helps cut through the wort. Yeast and corn contribute to the heaviness of the beer, which has a rye-like bread component.
3.7 16oz can. 6/22/17 can date. Appearance: Pale straw yellow, clear, with a light white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Decent lacing. Aroma: Black pepper, citrus peel, and fruity Belgian yeast esters of pear and green apple. Touch of light cracker maltiness Taste: Light cracker malt sweetness, with citrus peel and sweat pear that builds into a sharp, dry aggressive bitterness for the style. Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a high carbonation Finish: Very dry with sharp lingering bitterness. Wonderful pear esters show up retronasally to counter the bitterness Overall: Very nice rustic saison, with a light cracker maltiness that allows the yeast to shine. More pear and banana esters, with only a touch of black pepper, and a surprisingly aggressive bitterness for the style that finishes with a bang. Extremely dry finish, with the fruity esters and strong bitterness, make this a great saison for food
3.1 Slightly darker than the wife’s Chardonnay, with a big white head and noticeable fizziness. As advertised, has pepper, grass and cracker malt. Bit of lemongrass too, and the usual banana and clove combo from the wheat. Body is pretty light - I’d have expected a bit more texture from the wheat.
3.4 Can from Bonanza Gift Shop. Extremely pale golden with high airy head. Lemony, citrus aroma, grains in the aroma. Taste is also light, lemons, grassy, mild savory notes. Kind of sweet too. Sweetness lingers for a while, tanginess on the tongue.
3.6 Aroma is citrus, lemongrass and honey. Maybe a touch of lemon. Taste is caramel, honey and clove. Pretty well balanced with a nice hop bitterness to round it out.
3.2 Can a light golden yellow colored beer with a white head aroma malts citrus coriander herbs and hops flavor malts citrus fruits spicy coriander herbs yeast and hops
3.2 Interesting. A blend of sorts? Saison fruits on the back palate but the planet hops and minerals very obvious in the structure. Works well.
