Molson Old Style Pilsner

Molson Old Style Pilsner

At Pilsner we have not changed since our beer was 1st brewed in 1926. Why? It’s right there on the bottle…. "old style". Those are more than just words on a beloved label. Being true to who we are has kept our drinkers loyal and kept Pilsner from being a fad. And that’s why our advertising, promotions and even our website have been done in the style of 1926- old style. Being true to who we are has kept our drinkers loyal and kept Pilsner form being a fad. The stagecoach on the label is not a band wagon..... the rabbit would not stand for it.

1.3 355mL can, pours a clear classic weak yellow colour. Nose of sweet hay. Flavour is pretty tasteless, sweetened beer water with a hint of metallic.
1.9 Pours a pale light colour with a white head. Mild aroma of breadiness. Taste is bland, but inoffensive. Watery finish with a hint of glassy bitterness.
1.0 355mL can, pours a clear piss yellow with a medium white head. Aroma brings out notes of hay and a touch of straw. Flavour is pretty tasteless, with straw, light hay and sweet cereal malts. A little skunk. Inoffensive, but pointless. No good, obviously.
0.7 Curiosity finally got the best of me. I have been on a kick for a while to find the best value beer. This ain’t it. Not even close. I have a pretty simple beer pallet...I like it or I don’t, but I have never until today poured a beer down the sink even when I don’t like it. I have never been so offended by a beer in my life. Aroma. No real sense of smell. It wasn’t skunky. Appearance. Poured nice golden yellow with a thick soapy head looked promising Taste. Started Bland like most cheep beer but then a flavour I can only describe as what I think turpentine would taste like is left behind when you swallow it.
2.2 George Carlin would have a field day with the name: "old style", but I digress. Aroma is mild, corny, some cereal malt, kind of musty - not really a fan. Appearance is pretty standard not-quite-pilsner lager, clear straw-yellow, scattered soapy head, less watery than your typical pale lager. Taste is mild, grainy, slightly sweet, mostly malt with little hop character. Not as musty as the aroma, but there’s a prominent metallic note in the finish. Way too much carbonation. Good grain presence makes this better than average for Molson, to be sure. While it’s nowhere close to "good", it’s easy to finish.
1.7 Wow, the design on the can shows some natives having their way of life destroyed by pilsner, -1 off appearance for being a bummer. That said it looks fizzy pale yellow, dirty smell of frozen peas, tastes like stale grain, a bit pissy. Pretty bad, watery AND metallic.
2.3 On holiday in Canada can gold blond colored body with a white head and a herby malt aroma a herby sweet malt taste with a slight bitter finish
2.3 Had to grab this as soon as I saw it, I thought about shot gunning it like in the movie Fubar, but then how could I rate it. So I bought 2. Pours clear gold with a fizzy white head that lasts and laces the glass. Some malt in the aroma but not much else. Taste is grain, sweet malt and hay. Has a bit of a tin aftertaste. All in all just not that good. Hoping shot gunning the 2nd one makes it taste better.
1.7 On tap. Tried as the only other alternative was Bud Lite Lime. Didn’t know there was still a market for kegs of this stuff. Pours a clear gold with light head. Aromas - nope. Flavors of semi sweet watery corn syrup and hints of grain. At least no cardboard. What an experience.
2.2 Enjoyed at Hard Luck Bar in Toronto, ON while my band was playing. Didn’t take tasting notes, didn’t need to...below average lager that did the trick for the night. Say no more.
2.3 Can 473ml Pours blond with medium-high white head, diminishing. Nice lacing. Aroma is of grain. Taste is of grain, sugar, fruits, bitterness. Palate: Light body. High carbonation. Overall: Not bad, simple.
1.8 Ça sent et ça goûte cheap. Malt, maïs, pain. Très aqueuse. Micro amertume. Bière de mononc’ buvable, sans plus. Just giv’er!
1.8 Can. Clear yellow body, small white head. The taste is ok, not too much yeast, but very watery. The aroma is subtle and there’s almost no aftertaste.
2.4 Pours a clear straw topped by a finger of fluffy off-white head showing average retention and good lacing properties. Vivid medium carbonation. The nose is pretty flat with nothing much coming through. The taste is sweet pear juice turning into bready malts. Faint grassy presence of the hops. Too sweet and unbalanced. Not the best pilsner I tried. Cheers!
2.4 473ml vented can. I think its the first vented can ive ever drank from. Popped in the little tab and opened it.... Ok... Aorma is typical corny, but not super intense. Flavor is metallic and a bit corny, not too tart, very light an unoffensive but nowhere near good.
2.5 Can on the beach in Toronto, in honor of Brett. Pretty decent lager, crisp(ish) and clean(ish). A little sour, cheap tasting beer. But drinkable.
2.7 Pours very light yellow, good head. Aroma of straw. Sweet straw grainy flavours, it’s ok for Molson big brewery swill, probably one of their better ones.
2.8 Why is there no ingredients list withbeers like this? Pleasant understated pilsner with a touch more malt that typical commercial ales, and little to offend. The effervescence is a bit overdone creating a fuzzy sensation on the tongue. A touch of citrus hops is there as well, but you have to dig to find it!
2.8 Faintly hoppy. Really crisp. Perhaps the best label of all-time. This brew gets a lot of hate, but it’s unpretentious and drinkable. What more do you want?
1.9 Red, yellow, green can. Without your glasses on you might think it was from Jamaica. In the center of the artwork on the can is a teepee with people sitting to the right of it. One is clutching their belly in pain because they probably just drank a can of this. Less flavor than bud or miller light.
2.6 Can @ Splitz Burger, Whistler. Light, pale, clean and crisp. We'll take it I guess... Extra points for the can.
2.1 473ml can. Clear pale gold with a thin foamy white head. Flavors are pale malts, corn, honey, citrus and grass with floral notes. Light body, fizzy carbonation, thin texture.
2.8 Bready, cereal aromas. More hop bite than most mass produced beers, however still subtle. Light bodied, thin, longer finish than others of the style. Big carbonation, unique.
1.8 Bottle, Silver Dollar, Spadina Ave. Boring beer. More amber than yellow, thin head. Slightly hoppy aroma. Strongly carbonated, thin palate. Hops and corn. Maybe a fall back on a hot summer night.
2.0 Can - 473ml. Boring pale blond body with very heavy carbonation and a thin white creamy head. Fair malty/hoppy aroma with some herbal and corny hints. Taste is watery and carbonation is agressive on the tongue. Some timid Saaz hops and corny flavors are noticeable. Ends with a short herbal finish. Probably one of Molson’s most drinkable products.
