Montegioco Draco

Montegioco Draco

Draco has a dark red color and a persistent head. It is full bodied and has a moderate level of carbonation. The nose shows a great complexity with aromas of honey, caramel and forest fruits. The hops brings out pepper and plum. The initial taste confirms the nose with notes of caramel and initial sweetness. The finish is a fine balance of hops and bitter notes.

Draco is produced using a mix of select malts. The beer is fermented three times. During the second fermentation the blueberries are added along with the yeast and malt sugar. The alcoholic content obtained from the fermentation of the malt is of 8.5% by volume, while the final one is 11% by volume.

3.4 Bottled (backlog). Murky brown colour, small off-white head. Aroma is berries, alcohol, sweet malts, some fruity and nutty notes as well. Flavour is sweet alcohol along with some berries, toffee, mild yeast and some fruity notes as well. Quite boozy, but otherwise the elements are quite right.
3.6 Pours dark brown, almost looking like a stout. Aroma reveals somewhat sweet and sticky nature of the beer, definitely great for desserts. Taste is sweet, has some dark fruits, soaked in liquor. Overall, definitely a top notch beer, just being overshadowed a bit by some others I had during this evening.
3.6 Pour dark ruby red, light foam, strawberry/peach perfume, taste of fruity hops, red fruits, coconut, alcohol. Drink carefully: it's 11%! For small tastings, you can't have too much of it
3.4 At a tasting, thanks, small bubbly head, very cloudy brown, color, not too nice, aroma of dried figs and clove with alcohol other spices and coke coming through later, flavor is a melange of dried fuits and caramel. Good but not too exciting.
3.1 Bottle at Lueken’s Liquors during the RBWG 2015 bus tour. Hazy amber with off-white head. Aromas of malt, citrus, caramel. Tastes of booze, malt, caramel. Medium body with a dry finish.
3.5 Bottle on the RBWG beer bus Clear dark golden with a medium sized white head, good lacing. Aroma of malts and berries. Flavors of berries and woody Decent
3.9 Bottle - Rich Berry and syrupy sweetness. Cloudy copper with a decent beige head. Big malty and light rotten fruits, very nice and rich.
3.0 Bottle during RBWG, pours a cloudy brown with small beige head. The aroma is bready malt and raisin. Medium mouth with a strong dark fruit, bready malt, decent.
3.5 Rubin red color with big head, good aroma and taste with malt and red fruit notes, good carbonation level, full body, and alcohol is present, good beer,..
3.9 On tap at Bir & Fud. The version I tried was 10% and made with cranberries I was told. A reddish amber wuth a bready spicy belgian nose + tart cranberries - think cranberry cookies. Medium bodied with a zesty mouthfeel. The taste is bready sweet spice + cranberry. Wonderful.
2.9 Super murky rust coloured with a decent head of foam, some lacing. The smell starts off with a malty port like aroma that goes a bitter trail as well. Sniffing for the blueberries. .I don’t get any. The taste follows suit with the smell, the only difference being that the finish returns to a more sweet malty side and there’s a slight suggestion of something fruity. By golly, I think I have found the wee bit of blueberries after all. There is no visible dating on the bottle so I have no idea how old this is. Taking a wild guess, this isn’t fresh. No revisits for me.
3.7 Appearance: Clear amber color with a off white head. Good lacing. Aroma: Balanced fruity and sweet malty. Palate: Medium + body. Slightly sweet and a mild bitterness. Average to soft carbonation. Taste: Sweet malty, raisins and fruity. Very well hidden alcohol. Overall impression: Tasty balanced nice evening sipper. Personal stats: Bottle at Dags beer fest Feb14
4.4 On tap at Birratrovo, Como. Pours red amber with minimal cream head (dye to high alcohol gradation). Aroma of passito, riped fruit and late autumn scents. Emnoyable as a glass of exceptional dessert wine, no hurry, just hedonism.
4.0 Barley wine abbastanza atipico, a parte i sentori di prugna. Miele, caramello e molta frutta matura. Amaro presente e ben bilanciato.
2.5 Dirty brown body, white head. Aroma has plastic and bit alcohol. Some sugary yeast and light caramelly maltiness. Some blueberry when warms.
3.0 [19-OCT-2013] Draught at EurHop Beer Festival (EBF) 2013 in Rome. Pours red to brown with a medium beige head, aroma of honey, toffee, moderate acidity, flavor is bitter with fruits and honey, medium bodied
2.9 Re-rate 3/15: Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel Florentin. Thanks Stas. Sweet, malty, fruity, very boozy. 6/3/6/2/11=2.8 [10/19/13] Draught at Eurhop Beer Festival 2013 in Rome. Murky brown. Aroma of malt, musty notes, dark fruits and some alcohol. Sweet malty flavor with caramel, dark fruits and alcohol. Medium to full-bodied. 6/3/6/3/12=3
2.7 750 ml bottle. Lotto 14/12. From Italy. Courtesy of Brandman. HHOK XV. Murky brown colour with a big foamy tan head. Yeast, minerals, dark fruits and dried fruits in the aroma. Dried dark fruits, yeast and sweet maltiness in the flavour. 11% quite well hidden. Not that tasty though.
3.6 Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell - London. Thanks to Colin. Pours dark, amber-gold with a creamy head. Ripe fruits abound, lots of berries, caramel, toffee - flavors of that ilk. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, malty finish, plenty more ripe fruits. Tasty.
3.0 Spina @ Porck’n Beer 2013.
3.5 Bottle split at Craft Clerko Tasting, 08/07/13, acquired from a trade thanks to Luca (Mortlach). Hazed dark amber with a thin light beige head that clears to a film. Nose is boozey do - a little on the harsh side, dark toffee, booze steeped dark fruits. Taste comprises demerara sugars, dark toffee fudge, booze but much less harsh than the aroma, woody notes, dark fruit, candyfloss. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light booze in the finish. Ok barleywine.
4.3 15/03/2013 Ma che siete venuti a fà (tap). Rossa, viva, intensa, appena appena torbida, schiuma bianca molto abbondante e persistente.
3.8 Brown color with ivory head. Caramel malt aroma, also spicy and ripe fruit. Taste is sweet with good carbonation.
3.5 Bottle. Muddy amber brown color, thick creamy beige head with solid lacing. Aroma of caramel and a bit of dusty barnyard. Taste issweet brown bread and brown sugar.
