Monteith's Summer Ale

Monteith's Summer Ale

Moneith's limited release Summer Ale is a refreshing different beer. Its uniquie style dates back to the late 19th century when ther was an adherence to brew with distinctive spices. True to tradition, this bright gold beer's spiciness adds a real flavoursome zest-balance by a touch of Rata honey and four different malts. Try it ice cold with a wedge of orange or lime.

2.8 Golden colour with quick fading head. Aroma and flavour are strong with ginger root and said ginger adds a gentle warmth. Light bodied and fresh. It’s not bad but I’m not keen on ginger.
1.8 Eerste reactie: Apart...
2.7 F: thin, white, quick gone. C: deep gold, hazy. A: malty, light lime, fruity, candy, bit of spicy, Fanta lemonade, very sweet. T: malty, sweet orange lemonade, bit of spicy, yeasty, ginger, honey cake, light to medium body, low to medium carbonation, summer beer for sure but spicy cake sweetness not enjoyable, 33cl bottle from Albert Heijn Duinenwater supermarket in Knokke.
2.7 Bottle @ Harpenden Arms, Harpenden. Deep, slightly hazed golden coloured ale with a very thin head and a carbonation. Ginger is dominant in aroma and taste and its aftertaste, but is not overbearing, although there’s no getting away fro it.
2.2 Bottle. Colir: Golden, white head. Taste: The ginger is very overwhelming. Some medium and some bittery notes, tropical fruit. Watery, light body.
2.4 Clear yellow, white foam head. Light barley aroma. Not nice taste, barnyard. (Trondheim 201707)
2.3 Copenhagen 18/6 2017. 33 cl bottle from Meny, Østerfælled Torv, Kbh. Ø. Very Orange label assuring me that I get a lively beer with both Ginger and Honey. Pours clear yellow with white head. Settles as thin almost transparent layer of foam. Aroma makes it clear to me that this resembles Ginger Beer more than regular beer. Ginger is clearly the dominating ingredient judging by the smell. Notes of citrus and peppermint. Medium carbonation and watery palate. Flavor is medium sweet followed by light bitterness. Aftertaste is herbal and distinctly Ginger-like. If you associate your summers with abundant consumption of Ginger this is perfect. I was mostly reminded of all the Health nuts gobbling up Ginger smoothie shots.
2.9 (Monteiths Summer Ale) Bottle 330ml at home, served into a shaker, ABV 5% Deep golden orange colour on the body, clear, with a good sized, thick white head on top. Aroma of citrus, orange, spices, ginger. Taste has also plenty of ginger, malts, some citrus, lemon peel. Thin body. Okay, nothing special, I also have associated spices with winter beers so that also doesn’t do it for me.
2.9 Clear deep golden color with fine head. Good intensity in the aroma. Medium body and an average carbonation level. Ok balance between sweetness and bitterness. Ginger, malty and citric flavor. Decent refreshing ale. [Bottle from Fjord Line Strömstad - Sandefjord]
2.1 33cl bottle shared at home. Clear dark orange with almost no head. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Herbal sweetness with subtle bitter tones. Ginger, honey, tropical fruits, sugar, caramel and malts. The ginger is very present and a tad too overwhelming, no not my brew.
2.7 Bottle from Albert Heijn in Gorinchem, The Netherlands. The beer is deep golden to amber colored and a has an unstable white head, with average carbonation. The aroma is malty and very fruity, with notes of honey, caramel, ginger and spices. Reminds me of shandy. Taste is sweet and malty, with notes of honey and a lot of ginger and other spices. The finish is light bitter and a little sour and short.
2.4 33cl bottle. Appearance: A nice golden yellow, with a rough white foamy head. Head does have a not so good retention and leaves marginally lacing. Aroma: A nice ginger, and a hint of zest with a maly backbone. Taste: a bit twatery, sweetish ginger, some malts, hints of honey, zest. Slighly below medium body, carbonation is a bit high, texture is quite sticky which is a bit of a shame as sumer refresher, our as refreshing soft drink. It’s ok ginger beer, but why get this over a non alcohol soft drink version, which is better executed ?
2.3 Golden colour with white foam. Aroma of mostly malt. A bit sweet taste. Not that impresive
2.2 At Home gold blond colored body with a small white head and with a fruity malt aroma a spicy herby fruity sweet watery taste with a light bitter finish
2.8 33 cl bottle. Clear golden colour with an amber tint. Thin white head. Sweet spiced aroma with honey and pale malts. Taste is light sweet. Medium body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes slightly dry and herbal sweet. Okay summers beer.
1.6 Not too much aroma or taste.Pours a clear yellow with thin head. Unexpected ginger beer flavour. Light and thin fizzy lemonade gingerbeer almost shandy. Fairly unpleasent artificial aromas.meh
1.8 Bottle from an Albert Heijn supermarket. Any beer that recommends "try ice cold with a wedge of orange or lime" elicits nothing but suspicion in me, but here we go: thinnish, off-white, lightly lacing head quickly reduced to a moussy rim and some wafer thin ’islands’ in the middle but eventually all but disappearing, over an ’old gold’ coloured robe with warmer pale orangey hue. Aroma of bath foam, lemonade (Fanta!), industrial cider, ginger ale, lemon-scented hand soap, varnish, some vague hints of caramel, mojito (without the alcohol), mandarin peel, breakfast cereals, molten glue. Cloyingly sweet onset, lots of Fanta flavour including that awful ascorbid acid providing ’industrial’ sourishness, tons of residual ’white’ sugar sticking to the mouth cavity, light mouthfeel, slick and smooth but very soapy, if not unpleasantly glueish as well, with initially fizzy carbo calming down afterwards; very thin cereally malt middle, malt extracts, conducting that lemonade sweetness and artificial sourishness to a finish in which the sweetness decreases and is eventually replaced by a notably ginger ale-like, ethereal spiciness, adding a kind of wryness of bitter dried grapefruit peel and thereby blocking the initial sweetness, but feeling just as artificial. A shampoo- or lemon soap-like scent rises up retronasally, adding insult to injury; ends wry, with a vaguely grassy hop bitter touch but much more chemical bitterness (effervescent tablets) which is anything but pleasant. I get the idea now of serving this thing ice cold with a wedge of orange: tasted at near room temperature, as I always do with any beer, makes this barely drinkable, way too sweet at first and too - chemically - wry in the end, with close to nothing in between. The previous two beers I had from this DB Breweries-owned brewer were anything but great but this one blatantly beats them: this is an abomination, seemingly fancy as a refreshing ’summer ale’ to the unsuspecting Albert Heijn shopper, but in reality, this is a cheap concoction aiming to mimick lemonade in a beery - i.e. alcoholic - way. Reminds me a bit of Bertinchamps Pamplemousse if I have to come up with a Belgian equivalent, but way thinner, much more chemical, sweeter and soapier. This beer is an offense, Albert Heijn should stop importing this industrial nonsense and reserve the space on their shelves for the many wonders of the present-day Dutch craft beer revolution. This one misses the train completely as far as I’m concerned, very artificial, very unpleasant and, frankly, close to undrinkable. This drinks like bath foam-scented lemonade. Avoid at all cost - have a mediocre ’saison imitation’ or the most mundane of IPAs instead if you’re craving for a light and crisp, ’summery’ beer. This one will only make you more thirsty due to the sticky mouthfeel, like some cheap cola or other industrial soda pop will. Way worse than feared!
1.4 Bottled. Small sample. The aroma has Royal Club ginger ale and some honey. Clear, copper coloured beer with not much head. The taste is a horrible way too sweet ginger feast. Awful. Drain poor. This is really not something you wanna drink in summer.
2.8 It is a nice refreshing Blond Ale. Nothing too special but it does the job.
2.6 33cl fles. Helder licht amber kleur, fijne romige witte schuimkraag. Aroma van gember en karamel. Smaak is zoet, honing, gember en licht karamel. Medium lichaam, veel koolzuur.
1.6 330ml bottle into pint glass. Interesting sweet ginger nose, reminds me of S.E. Asia for some reason. Pale amber beer, no head, a few bubbles. Zingy mouthfeel, weak malt lager taste. Finish is plasticine and fake grape. It’s horrible.
2.2 Pours a clear yellow with thin head. Unexpected ginger beer flavour. Light and thin fizzy lemonade gingerbeer almost shandy. Fairly unplesant but some might like it as a super sweet light watery refreshment on a hot day.
3.2 Bottle share thanks to RichTV. Poured clear gold copper coloure with off white lacing. Ginger pepper nose Taste is caramel ginger and cinnamon, sweet finish
2.7 The beer looks nice. The color of the beer is a nice golden yellow. It is a bit pale. The beer is nice and clear. A lot of rather big bubbles are rising towards the top. There, a nice layer of rough white foam is formed, with collapses rather quickly, leaving a thin drape. The smell of the beer is not bad. It isn’t that strong. It has a distinct summery touch though. There is a nice sweet smell of honey and also a nice aroma of ginger. I also smell some zesty bitters and a nice malty base. The smell is quite sweet, but not out of balance. The ginger and honey aren’t to strong, luckily. It misses some wow though. The taste of the beer is also nice, but not extremely special. There is a nice malty base, on which te different flavours are build. There is a nice zesty bitterness, honey sweetness and ginger spiciness. The taste lacks a bit of strength. Nice though. The palate is good. The body is medium, so is carbonation. The finish is not to long and contains a nice honey flavour. Nice beer.
3.1 Bottle. Pours light amber with a medium tan foam residing. Scent is pure ginger beer. Taste is medium honey and light hops, some pale malt, and residing ginger. Some herbal properties. Very good.
2.4 Bottle at home. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma heavy ginger, light malty and spicy honey. Flavor medium sweet and ginger, honey, light spicy, sweet. Light to medium body.
2.6 Not a fan. A bit sweet and watery. Flavor has malts and some honey and rosemary which could be nice but the brew is too weak to make it stand out.
2.8 Bottle (from auchan, Timisoara). Pours clear golden. Aroma is fruity, grapefruit, sugar, ginger. Flavor is sweet and bitter, citrus, grapefruit, ginger. Overall: drinkable.
3.1 Oranje koper kleur met een goede kraag. Ruikt snoep. Smaakt snoep, limonade siroop.
