Moor JJJ IPA

Moor JJJ IPA

Cask: Occasional.

Also available bottled at 9.5% abv.

This is one big beer. Forget the ABV, which is just a by-product of the passion. James and Josh from the Queen’s Arms, Corton Denham, and I (hence JJJ) have a shared passion for great beers and were lamenting the lack of true IPAs in the UK. So we decided to brew our own version of heaven. Double IPA was just not good enough - we needed a triple IPA. Triple the gravity, triple the colour, and more than triple the hops. With nearly 700 kg of malt and over 11.5 kg of hops this beer is big in every sense. In fact, it was so big and hoppy that it broke our pump! Deep copper in colour, over the top in aroma and flavour, but somehow still remaining (somewhat) balanced, this beer is not for the faint of heart. And if you don’t like hops, don’t even think about it. But if you do, dare we say this may be the best beer you’ll ever taste.

3.8 Keg at the Moor Vaults, murky gold with a fine head, rich and dry with huge hoppy-fruity notes.
4.2 330 ml can from Stoneworks,Peterborough,bb 09/2018. Copper, murky. Lovely off white head. Nose - rich and juicy citrus salad with some conifer thrown in the mix. Taste - juicy, fruity, bitter, balanced. Oily.
3.5 Smell of fruit. Muddy amber colour, white head. Aroma of hops, spruce. Very bitter. Lively carbon. Oily texture.
3.4 On tap at Craft Room Zagreb. Golden coloured, small white head, hops and light caramel in the nose. Sweet malty, caramel, light tropical fruits and herbal hops with touch of honey and alcohol. Bitter finish. Probably not so fresh.
3.9 Opaquenice staying head and laceing good aroma taste muted fruit bomb good and a little raw.
3.8 Can from Prohibition wines. Hazy orange colour with a whitish head. Aroma of malt with an intense fruitiness. Taste is full of tropical fruit and berries. Mango, pineapple, Seville Orange marmalade, grapefruit and red currant are all present and are balanced with a mouth-filling grassy bitterness. An excellent IPA.
3.6 On tap at Zagreb Craft Beer Week. Pours hazy orange, creamy white head. Hoppy, ripe fruit, apricot, quite sweet. Malty, caramel, marmalade. Soft carbonation. Medium+ bodied. Too sweet and caramely, seemed a bit tired.
3.1 Keg @ Vocation & Co, Hebden Bridge. Hazed amber-orange with a small head. It has mildly tangy orange citrus flavours, with its strength more evident in its nose than taste.
4.3 Tap@Konttori, Tampere, Finland. Huge, rounded nuances of high hops, honey, sweet malts. Some overaged mango and pine. Averagely balanced. Medium taste spectrum and long/medium aftertaste with malty hops and a hint of fruits. Strong body with medium/low carbonation. Overall, quite great product that even gives you the malts even when so highly hops. Supercharged character starts to clog up. 8 5 8 5 17
4.5 Can at The Wolf, Birmingham. I've been wanting to try this beer for so long - years in fact. It was worth the wait - phew. Super juicy fruit, great boozy warmth. There is s nice sweet body to the booze hit. Yummy.
3.6 Tap@konttori. Hazy amber color with creamy off-white head. Aroma has malt, fruity hops, caramel. Taste is malty sweet with long bitter and a bit sweet aftertaste. Flavors of caramel, malt, grassy hops, needles, fruits.
3.9 Tap at Konttori. Pours hazy golden orange with white head. Nice tropical fruity aroma, taste is also fruity, orange, grapefruit, fruity hops, malts, light alcohol. Slick full body, medium carbonation.
4.0 Tap @ Konttori. Pours hazy orange color with a steady small head. Pleasant fruity aroma, apricot and orange with mango sweetness, nice hop profile, subtle pine. 3.6 Tropical aroma, passion fruit. Cloudy orange color with small sized white head. Sweet and bitter taste, more to bitter side, caramel, fruit, lots of strawberry. Medium body, soft carbonation, silky. //tap at ZCBW
3.6 Draught @ Kitty's. Poured deep amber color with a thick white head. Berries, pine, citrus in aroma. Grapefruity flavor, pine, berries, hops. Strong bitterness. Herbal finish.
3.9 A very tasty old school bitter DIPA. Pours reddish orange with a Lacey white head. Tonnes of mango and hot booze to contend with on the palate. The finish has a load of residual bitterness and hoppy dryness that goes on for eternity complimented with a boozy kick. Lovely stuff!
Textura oleosa. Aroma a fruta tropical y cítricos, algo indefinidos. Seca.
4.0 Can - looks great; frothy head and a pale amber colour with enough murkiness to show the hops involved! The smell isn’t that strong, but quite hoppy. This really hits the spot - big hop hit with a lot of pine and citrus, but also caramel notes from the malt and some sweetness to combat the bitterness somewhat. Soft and smooth mouthfeel too, very well crafted!
4.1 Can from the Stoneworks, Peterborough. Dark golden red-brown, clear with a minimal amount of carbonation and a well-sized creamy off-white head. Hot boozy aroma with a ton of spiced mango, fruit loaf, papaya. Taste is frankly out of this world. Sweet and laden with alcohol, turning noticeably but not overpoweringly bitter in the sip. Long bitter finish with tropical fruit hop oils kicking my tongue's ass all over the town. DIPAs are in general a wonderful thing, but this is special beyond special.
3.6 Keg at The Earl Grey Inn, Leek. A hazy orangey amber colour with a medium white head. Aroma of orange, pine, some red apple, maybe red grape, slight caramel and subtle almond. Taste of orange, pine, resin, slight red apple, some caramel, a little candied fruits and subtle lemon zest. Medium to full bodied and an oily texture. A sweet, slightly alcoholic, resinous orange finish. It’s big on the hops but more on the sweet side. Very resinous and orangey, kinda Cointreau like and full bodied. Interesting but not the best IIPA.
3.9 Bottle from Good Spirits Co. Wine & Beer, Glasgow. Beer served in 8°C, Snifter Glass. Pours hazy golden, small head. Aroma is floral, fruity, white grapes. Hoppy flavor with pine, cones, citrousy and herbal bitterness.
3.5 Tap @Barley Mow, Bristol. Medium white head, orange/golden colour, quite hazy. Strong citrusy aroma, grapefruite peel, bit of pine, orange, lemon. Bitter taste, full body, average carbonation, long finish. Not bad, but from the other hand nothing spectacular.
3.7 Cask at the Nags Head Reading. Cloudy orange-red with little head. Fine fruity hopped aroma. Lightly zesty, orange, apricot and incredibly light tasting for the abv. A good DIPA, well done Moor again.
3.7 Pours hazy golden with low white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, resin, light marmalade. Taste is marmalade sweet followed by a big resinous bitter finish. Medium bodied and smooth with soft carbonation.
2.8 Tap @ Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell. Murky brown, not much head. Orange malt aroma. Cointreau flavour. Strong and sweet. Disappointing.
