1.5Pours out in a light cloudy dark brown - blackish colour with steady low head and medium to thin body. Nose of yeast and malt. Taste of overripe yeast, bacteria, nuts, torf and malt. Very sweet and very yeasty. No beer for me to enjoy, not to say that it was unenjoyable altogether. Poor one.
1.6Wie auch sein Kelkerbier, so besticht auch dieses durch eine ungewöhnliche Milchsäure und vergorene Aromen. Wie ein alter Joghurt, der mit Kohlensäure aufgefüllt wurde. Kein zweites bitte.
2.9500ml bottle. Hazy dark copper color. Ice-cream type of cone as head, holds nicely. Wheat, sourish, mild banana, sweet notes in aroma. Very grainy, turnip, vegetables in flavor. Very soft taste.
3.4500ml bottle. Unfiltered, thick amber-burgundy. Steady thin beige head. Very earthy and mellow. Very light on the palate, some doughy chocolate over a cloudy wheat body. Some light pungent tones, sort of a Dunkel, eastern European feel at times. Very easy drinker. Has a cask feel to it. Would love to have this beers in Moosbach.
1.8Mostly full 500ml swingtop bottle. Opened and resealed several hours ago. Mostly clear dark red color, somewhat brown. Thin off-white head, fades to minimal, not really any lace. Light to medium body. Light to moderate kind of rough textured carbonation, very dry in the finish. A little thin. Dark fruity flavor, no real hefe wheat type flavors, just some light spice. An underlying acidic vomit like flavor kind of spoils the whole thing. It’s not obvious, but definitely noticeable. Some lightly tart lemon citrus flavor. Light sweet. Pretty disappointing dunkelweizen.
3.3Split bottle. Poured a caramel color with a beige head. Aroma was sweet dark malts, nut notes, caramel character. Flavor was sweet roasted chocolate notes, caramel, nuts. Pretty refreshing, enjoyed.
2.9Aroma is malt, a little sour. Roasted malt flavor. Not much else. A little acidic, maybe not as fresh. Will have to try again.
2.3Cloudy wood brown with a soft, off-white head.
Caramel, dark sour fruit aroma.
Taste is a tangy/sweet dull caramel.
Grows more sour and leafy bitter as it goes.
Not enjoyable.
2.5Pours dark amber with minimal white head. Scent is rasiny, syrupy and yeasty. Flavor follows with the scent. A bit of raisin, some molasses, small amount of roasted malt that carries through into the almost hop-free finish. Mouthfeel is thin and flat. Not super impressed.
3.0Bottle. Pours a dirty brown with an off-white foamy head. Aroma of bread, cloves, citrus, and some floral hops. Sour skunky taste. Bread malts, citrus, and cloves hit the palate. Taste like soured fruit juice. Not very appealing at all. Dry finish.
3.016.9 oz bottle pours brown with a tan head. Aroma of malts, toffee and a bit of grass. Taste is the malts and grass.
3.3500ml bottle in a glass. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of slightly roasted malts, some dough and bread, and light floral hops. Flavor about the same. Average texture. A decent beer.
2.9Swing top bottle. Rich mahogany pour with a frothy white head. Yeast and mild fruit aroma. Palate is a bit flat and thin. Taste is mostly mild sweetness. Just not a ton to get too excited about here, but it’s not bad.
2.916.9oz bottle as Moosbacher Schwarze Weisse 9/1/12 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-48° in Weizen Glass-Pours a murky brown with a nice two finger tan head. Aroma of banana, yeast, caramel, and dark fruits. Taste of the same with a little bit of sourness in the middle. This medium bodied brew is lacking some flavors but still is not bad.
3.1500ml bottle labelled as Schwarze Weisse pours a light brown color with a finger of white head that leaves little lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark fruits with some caramel and light roasted notes. Taste is dark fruits with a caramel malty sweetness and a herbal hop bitterness with some light smoke. Light to medium body with little carbonation. A decent dunkel that was somewhat tasty, but there are better ones out there.
2.0It probably isn’t fair to rate this beer as it turned out to be very old, but I have nothing else to go on. HUGE carbonation, has a tinge of sourness mixed with pay-doh in the flavor. Drain pour.
2.4Bottle 500ml. @ home. w. swing top.
[ As Moosbacher Schwarze Weisse ].
Sparkling and hazy matt medium amber brown colour with a large to huge, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, light beige head. Aroma is light to moderate malty, caramel, moderate yeasty, sour fruit, sour malt - yeast. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light light acidic with a average to long duration, sweet fruit - candy - banana. Body is medium, texture is creamy to watery, carbonation is soft. [20120205]
3.2Refrigerated half liter bottle labeled Moosbacher Schwarze Weisse , poured into a weizen glass. Pours translucent medium brown with light brown highlights top and bottom, lots of suspended yeast, with one finger beige head that dissapates. Some fluffy lacing, medium body, light/medium carbonation, and light banana aroma. Taste is toasted/roasted malt, some banana, and a hint of chocolate. Pretty good.
3.0Bottled under the Schwarze Weisse lable. This dark wheat beer pours brown and has hints of citrus on the nose which is dominated by roasted malt, caramel and yeast. Slightly tart/spicy bitter wheat but taste is like a sweat/caramel bread and roasty. Mild and and very drinkable due to thin to medium body. Almost underwhelming taste / aroma but still good.
2.6The beer in the glass is very dark brown with massive foaming. It smells yeasty and roasted-malty, slightly caramelly. Starts roasty-sweet, with caramel and a lot of yeast aroma. The middle part shows roasted-bitter malts, fruity, yeasty and a slightly caramelly. Goes into a yeasty and sourish finish with lots of roasted malts!
3.0Pours clear dark brown with a huge, sticky, off-white head.
Roast malt aroma, maybe some bacon. A bit strange for an aroma.
The flavor is neither sweet nor bitter but it does have a tart tang to it. Which is also a bit strange.
A bit thin.
I won’t be buying any more bottles of this, but I would love to try it fresh over in Germany.
1.8500mL botte purchased at Total Wine and More in Sacramento. Wow, the aroma has a good whiff of phenols at first. Once you can get past this, there is a little tartness, and some mildly roasty chocolate hints. As this warms, I get some green apple acetaldehyde character, and I am scared this may be infected. This opened with a thunderous pop and poured with a massive light tan head. Moderately transparent cola-colored body. Starts with a bunch of green apple acetaldehyde notes and then followed by some metallic characteristics. Light toasted malts in the middle. Thin and watery towards the finish, and just really not enjoyable at all. Extremely flawed beer.
3.2500 ml bottle. As Moosbacher Schwarze Weisse. From bierzwerg.de.
Cloudy reddish brown colour with average size bubbly off-white head.
Yeast, more malt than wheat, mild sourness and some toffee notes in aroma. Yeast profile is much more Belgian or to be even more specific Dutch style than average German Weizen yeastiness. Quite interesting.
Flavour is some bitterness, mild bready wheat, mild sweetness but also some dryness. There’s not much fruitiness but this is definitely drinkable Dunkelweizen. Much bigger beer than I expected.
2.6Swing top bottle. Caramelly yeasty aroma. Caramelly sweet flavor. rather onedimensional. Sticky mouthfeel.
2.750cl bottle from Bierzwerg, label says: Schwartze weisse. Poured dark brown with a frothy, beige head. Aroma is sweet banana and yeast. Flavor is similar, too sweet and some odd spiciness that does not fit in really. Drinkable, but not very high on my list of dunkelweizens.
3.6One of the smoother dark beers I’ve actually enjoyed. This I think I could drink more than a few since the darks seem to fill me up. NIce color and did I mention smooth for a dark beer!
2.8Bottle:   Brown, murky and muddy, large foamy light beige head, sticks around forever leaving spotty
lacing, strong carbonation.   Musty wheaty aroma, slight barnish notes.   Pretty dull on the tongue, wheaty,
toasty. &Nbsp Slightl pear/apple skin.   Falls flat fairly quickly, no real banana or clove.   Spritzy on the
tongue, but not a big wheat type body.   This one is pretty ho-hum, less than average.
3.0Bottle. Sweet malty aroma with some wheat and light bready notes. The flavor has sweet malts, light toast, toffee, and light nutty notes. Pretty good.
2.950 cl bottle @ home as ”Moosbacher Schwartze Weisse”, BBE 03 or 04 / 2012
Aroma is a bit stale and rather light with ripe banana and flour. Light flavour has some solvent and banana with hints of spices. Thin palate. Not a good one.
3.050 cl bottle. BBE 04/2012.
Pours colour with head. Aroma of murky copper colour with small head. Aroma of citrus, ripe apricot, grass, malts and earth. Flavour of apricot, citrus, malts, wheat and some caramel. Stuffy and mildly bitter palate.
