Morland Old Speckled Hen (Cask)

Morland Old Speckled Hen (Cask)

Cask: Regular.

Ingredients: Pipkin pale malt; Crystal malt; brewers sugar; Bittering hops: Challenger; Aroma hops: Goldings and Challenger; Morland yeast.

New beer introduced in Aug 2006 to replace the original 5.2% Morland Old Speckled Hen.

It’s rich amber colour and superb fruity aromas are complemented by a delicious blend of malty yastes. Toffee and malt combine with bitterness on the back of the tongue to give a balanced sweetness. This is followed by a refreshingly dry finish.

2.7 Tough caramelly aroma (just like burned sugar) with some toasty to even honey-ish signs. There's no signs of herbal hoppy notes. Taste is quite sweetish with caramel, biscuits, honey. I think this position is bit poor – seems far too sweet in my book.
0.5 Positive dishwater. Never have I drunk anything more disgusting. I dropped my glass and was truly sorry that I got a free refill. Avoid at all costs
3.8 Morland Old Speckled Hen (Keg) 5.0%. Copper, toffee malt aroma, medium bodied, lightly roasted malt, toffee, bittersweet finish. Surprisingly better in keg than bottle
3.0 Cask does taste better with this beer. It pours pale brown with white cream head that lasts throughout the beer . Caramel / toffee aroma . medium body with a cream mild bitter taste
3.9 Delightful sipper. It's got a great balance of malts and hops for just enjoying a really easy beer.
3.2 Caramel malt aroma with a bit of apple. Amber coloured ale without much head. Taste is balanced, with initial sweetness countered by bitterness in the finish. Soft and medium bodied.
2.5 Cask @ The Richmond Arms. Orange brown not much head. Toffee malt aroma. Disinfectant caramel malt flavour. Bitter aftertaste. A classic modern English bitter.
3.0 Cask at the booking office. Pours golden, nose is floral, biscuity, toffee, taste is similar.
3.2 Cask handpull at The Crosse Keys London as Morland Old Speckled Hen, 4.5%. Dark amber orange, clear and still with a dense creamy beige head that leaves thick lacing. Aroma is airy, light toffee and biscuit. Body is pretty smooth, slightly frothy, soft carbonation. Taste is biscuity, soggy wholemeal bread, traditional British hop tang with a little apple and wood shavings. Touch nutty. Good condition. Possible involvement of a sparkler though. A tasty malty beer. I can see why it's popular. (5-4-6-4-13=3.2)
3.4 Cask at the Farmhouse, Kesgrave. Backlog rating from historic scoring. No tasting notes kept, just rating. Better than bottled version.
3.0 as with most casked variants of british real ale, the only thing this offers over the bottled or canned variety is a creamy addition to the consistency and a smoothness on the palate. old speckled's body flavours of fruit and nuts can be more noticeable here, as the hoppy aftertaste is somewhat lesser prominent than the bottled variety. however, i have never had the experience of trying this brew in a can.
3.0 Очень трудно выдать из себя 75 символов после пяти кружек этого пивка:) очень много символов.
2.9 Gezapft in einem Pub, nördlich von London. Klares Bernstein. Aroma: süßliches Malz, Karamell, etwas Frucht Geschmack: Metallisch , etwas Karamell, etwas Hopfen Cremig
2.7 Cask at the Wyvern, Church Crookham. Negligible sweet and malty aroma. Light chestnut. Good creamy head. Sweet bitter hints. Light and soft bodied. Middling finish, However it is totally bland. The taste is just lacking.
3.0 Cask @Le Bon Bock (Rome). Corpo leggero, watery, carbonazione soft. Si beve.
2.9 Clear amber, off white head. Light malty aroma. Flavour is light malt, some sour fruit, a bit of hop. It’s pretty watery. Meh.
3.2 Draught at John Scotts Stable cons 2016-12-16 Göteborg AR: roasted malt, wee caramel AP: amber clear, frothy cream beige head F: roasted malt, caramel, bready, wee caramel
3.0 Draft at Earl Haig. Murky amber pour with small, sparse creamy head. General malty character, bready notes. Creamy consistency. Another drinkable but forgettable bitter.
3.4 Cask on tap at Sail Bar Greenwich. Copper color, low creamy beige head. Aroma light malty tones. Palate medium, creamy with low carbonation. Taste toffee, sour malty notes. Balanced - faint but OK beer.
3.1 Pours a clear orange amber with a small off white head. Malty toffee and caramel aroma. Similar taste, sweet toffee, light malt; smooth and a little bitterness in the finish.
3.4 Draft. Pours dark hazy golden, off white head. Aroma was fruity and toffee malt as advertised. Medium sweetness well balanced with dry hop bitterness. Quite good overall.
3.0 Cask at Anglers Arms, Northumberland. Brown amber colour, off-white foam head leaving lacing and nose of earthy malt. Taste is malty, toffee, floral, dried fruity, with a yeasty note and tangy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry tangy bitter finish. Quite OK.
3.0 Pint on cask at St. George’s Vaults. Pours a reddish amber with a medium off-white head. Malty aroma, some bread, some toffee. Similar flavors, a little sweet up front, not much bitterness. Quite smooth.
3.6 Tap (hand pump) pint. Not a huge aroma, light toffee. Amber colour with a very tightly packed head (similar to nitro) and excellent lacing all the way to the end. Nice to watch it being pulled and then having to settle for over a minute. Taste was very mild but went perfectly with the meal as it didn’t overwhelm. Malty, slight toffee sweet minimal bitterness - exceptionally smooth. Nice creamy mouthfeel, and short palate - not clean and crisp, but not lingering either. Overall better than the bottle and cask is superior to the normal tap too. Really nice easy drinking, for a relaxed cool (but not cold) weather day.
2.9 Cask at The Black Lake, Meir Heath. A clear amber colour with a medium off white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, some dark fruits, slight yeast and subtle spicy hops. Taste of caramel, toffee, some dark fruits, slight yeast, a little metal and subtle spicy, earthy hops. Medium bodied and a smooth texture. A dryish, malty, fruity, spicy hop bitterness in the finish. A fruity, malty beer. Not exciting but it’s smooth and has a good body. Ok for a cask bitter.
3.0 Pretty standard bitter amber colour good balance of malt caramel light hops in the finish
2.9 Bottle 50cl, bittere nasmaak, helder en oranjebruine kleur, ijzerachtig en droog in de mond, niet een biertje dat makkelijk wegdrinkt.
3.0 Tap @Harvester, Bristol. Small head, amber/gold colour, toffee aroma, bitter aftertaste, light body, quite sparkling. Generally not bad, however it was served a bit too cold.
