Mountain Goat India Pale Ale (2012-2019)

Mountain Goat India Pale Ale (2012-2019)

This is a Hop Driven, Malty Ale with a strong bitterness thanks to a good dose of Citra and Galaxy hops. Its a tough nut, but loveable all the same.

Those of you that loiter in bottleshops in your spare time will probably have noticed that our Rare Breed IPA is no longer a Rare Breed. She’s become an all-grown-up fully-fledged member of the permanent range.

…And like the doting parents we are, we’re super proud of her.

She still has the same big tropical hop aroma – we dry-hop using Galaxy (Tas), Citra (USA) and Motueka (NZ), and full malty body (Ale malt, Wheat and Crystal malts).

Specs are: 6.2% abv, 65 BU…one for hopheads and beer nerds everywhere.

3.4 Has a nice nose, got blend of citrus fruits, burnt sugar. Mouthfeel a bit watery with a strong bitter finish. A flash of hops in-between.
3.5 Draught at brewery. Inviting nose of floral and crystal malt hops. Turgid dark amber, with solid-looking head. Light-medium body, with fine carbonation. Rather delicate and smooth, with flavours of passionfruit and caramel. Quite hoppy and funky, and really enjoyable.
3.5 330ml Bottle. Gold tinted amber colour, thin, well laced off white head. Strong floral aromas with notes of pine and citrus. Light boddied, tart grapefruit bitterness with lots of pine, balanced with a good malt backbone. Very light, but enjoyable.
2.7 330ml bottle, Pleasant aroma, Amber colour with off white head, Medium body, Hoppy, metallic notes, very bitter and dry finish.
3.7 Pours gold with whitehead. Aroma is exotic fuity, caramel and pine. Flavour is medium sweet, medium to heavy bitter, pine and fruity. Lingering bitterness.
4.3 Love the strong hop taste. Almost brown in colour. Once tongue adjusts to taste, other beers taste too mild.
3.4 0,33 l bottle, Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Clear deep golden ale with a small white head that went away fast. Fruity aroma withe, resin and pine, sime yeast. A bit watery palate, fine carbonation with nice hoppy character Resin, grape and grape seeds, juniper. Fine, need a bit more body.
2.8 Pours a hazy amber colour with a soapy white head. Strong aroma of passionfruit, some citrus, grass and pine. Taste is adds som more caramel aswell. Finish is a bitt too bitter for me, not enough malts to cope with the hops. Medium body and a bit soapy mouthfeel as a result of a bit too much carbonation. Okey, but with some issues.
3.0 Little bit earthy, some floral hop is sweet. Earthy and a light phenolic character. Not much hop but ok pale.
3.0 light golden brown. Mine didn't show head retention. Aroma is mild but has a big bite initially. Can't comment on palate because my tongue is numb from too many previous IPAs. But it seems nice enough.
3.7 Bottle. Clear amber pour, minimal head. Nice citrus aroma, with taste being mostly hoppy. Undertones of citrus. Good IPA.
3.7 .33l bottle @ Vihreä Haltiatar Pours clear golden with low head. Leaves some lacing. Aroma is hops, sweat, herbs, malts. Flavor is hops, fruits, malts. Palate is dry and hopsy.
3.9 A nice deep amber with a light creamy head that clings to the glass in a delicate lace. The aroma is citrus, grapefruit and some pine. Taste is aged hops with a solid malt backbone, citrus, medium body and a nice pine resin after taste.
4.0 Like the malt flavour coming through. Didn’t get the citris taste that others claim like a sierra Nevada.
3.0 Bottled @Beer Hunters Clear copper color, small off-white head. Resiny hoppy aroma. Light to medium-bodied. Piney, resiny hoppy. Perhaps some citrus, doesn’t feel very fresh.
3.7 Bottle at eikan pub, järvenpää. Clear copper brown color, small white head. Nice fresh malty aroma with hops. Malty body with big dry hops, fruity, dry long finish, also quite high co2.
3.4 Sampled at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013 - Day 2, Session 1. Cascade and Galaxy version, evidently. Pours clear, deep gold with a clinging light beige cream head. The nose has decent citrus presence, orange and grapefruit, faint pine. Medium sweet flavor with slightly aged hops, tangerine. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Light pine resins to finish with sugary citrus and bready malts. Fair.
3.5 251013. Bottle at Tuulensuu, Tampere. Pours clear copper with a nice small head. Aroma citrus hops. Medium light body. Something missing from the after taste. Not Bad.
3.5 22-OCT-2013, bottle @home, from Mikkeller & Friends. Quite cheap. Clearly marked down. Why? Too old, perhaps? Dark, dark golden or rather amber with with lasting tan head. Aroma is clearly dryhopped with grassy notes. But also tired madeira elements on a very malty body. Taste is very malty and sweet.. Grassy, grape fruit. Touch of pine. Very bitter. Very citrus driven hops. Above average body, medium carbonation. Would have loved this when fresh, I am sure:-)
2.8 330 ml bottle. Tuulensuu, Tampere, Finland. Clear deep golden amber colour with a small white head. Fruity and piney hops, sweet caramel and mild bitterness in the aroma. Very sweet candy hops, mi bitterness and sweet malt in the flavour. Not very tasty. Too much caramel & candy.
2.7 Flaske: Gul uklar øl med et fint skumhoved. Duften er mærkelig urtet med en smule malt. Smagen er også urtet på den rigtig ufede måde. Drikbar øl men bestemt ikke nogen nydelse.
3.9 Very good and balanced India pale ale, quite easy to drink anyway. Not very memorable but absolutely enjoyable.
3.4 Bottle at Black Door. Dark amber color, white head. Bitter taste with grapefruit, hops, mango, resin and a bit of caramel. Bitter finish with grapefruit and resin. Good, enjoyable IPA.
3.1 Bit too sweet and malty, decent piney aroma. Dark amber, bit sticky after a while. Quite floral and bitter, not much citrus.
3.0 a malt driven IPA that lacks much hop aroma and flavour. It is like it was there and it has been baked out. The only bottles I have had have been fairly oxidised and not the freshest. A IPA that tastes much better than the US aged imports but not Australia’s finest. Malt sweetness, low hop aroma and bitterness prevail
3.4 Bottle@ahven. Amber clear, chestnut tones. Malty slightly sweet caramel nose with some nuttyness and herbal piney hops. Full flavoured body, dry, well bittered. Not harsh though, feels just powerful, packing a punch. Real nice body and flavours. Good start to these aussie weeks here. -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
3.6 330ml bottle (Hilpea Haukki, Helsinki) Lovely fruity hoppy aroma. Deep orange, small tight head. Lovely full malty body sweetish malts, sweetish fruity aroma hops. Very nice IPA, great balance.
3.5 (Bottle, 0.33 l, at Hilpeä Hauki, 20131001) The beer poured deep amber and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had pine, fresh grass and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, pine, malts, hint of caramell and medium bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. A good hoppy brew. Despite the long trave the beer appeared to be in quite good condition.
3.6 (Bottle) Amber colour, slightly hazy, with frothy off-white head, leaving traces of lacing. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, orange peel, pink grapefruit, lychee, caramel and a touch of ginger. Fruity taste with notes of citrus peel, grapefruit, dried apricots, hints of rye bread, lychee and a finish with a fresh citric, floral bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Lots of taste and fresh hops, still well balanced and highly drinkable. Nice one.
3.3 Bottled 33 cl at Penny Blue, Melbourne. On July 25, 2013. Clear copper color, white head. Sweet, hoppy scent. Sweet, hoppy, bitter taste. Medium mouthfeel, high bitterness. Hoppy, bitter aftertaste.
