Moylans IPA

Moylans IPA

Our version of the IPA beer style possesses a deep golden hue, rich malty flavor, a bold, complex, and enduring hop finish and is extremely full bodied. We dry hop this brew and use a combination of Fuggles and Chinook hop varieties resulting in an extremely enticing floral and spicy aroma as well as hop character. Great Western Two Row Pale Malt, De Wolf-Cosyns' Caravienne and Munich Malts are combined to achieve an initial specific gravity approaching 1.065.

3.6 22oz bomber This IPA poured a light golden color with big frothy white head and lacing. The nose detects spruce or resin on the nose and taste. This is big IPA, lots of flavor. The medium body ale has average carbonation. This ale has a nice finish with bitterness filling your who;le mouth.

3.2 20th August 2010 Hazy gold beer, little white head. Softish dry palate. Immediate bitter grapefruit hops, a trace of orange, The bitterness keeps going to the semi dry finish. Lingering bitter aftertaste. A hard edged IPA.
3.8 (Bottle) Pours orange amber with a creamy white head. The aroma is big time soapy and floral with notes of roses, mild pine, black currant tea, fresh herbs and new cut grass. Toasted and light caramelly malt. Light fruity undertones. The flavour is near medium sweet and medium bitter with tones of flowers, herbs, black currant tea and mild pine. Resinous and light grapefruity finish. Malt backbone of toast and caramel. The mouthfeel is round and smooth. Medium bodied.
3.6 Pale golden pour thin off white head sticky lacing .... aroma is citrusy hops grapefruity very fresh and nice .... taste is sweet sugary and resiny with a nice piney citrusy bitter hop explosion .... the bitterness lingers throughout and there is a nice oily and spicy mouthfeel ... bitter and dry hop finish .... west coast ipa all the way a very nice ipa
3.7 Bottle, split with mcberko. Pours cloudy orange / yellow with a thick lasting white head. Aroma of buttery citrus hops and bitter pine. Flavour is quite bitter, with pine, citrus and light caramel. Medium palate and very bitter. Nice.
3.6 Always around but I never tried it until I got it from my daughter for a birthday present. What a good kid. Pours a nice looking amber with a lacing white head. The aroma is malty sweet with just a hint of the hops to come. The flavor starts malty and then gets bitter. It has a peppery feel to it. Lots of hops, very bitter. The finish is crisp, clean and dry. Very nice.
3.8 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of roasted and caramel, grapefruit and orange for the hops, light dough for the yeast, with notes of date, pepper and paper. Head is small, frothy turning creamy, white with good lacing and is fully lasting. Color is murky grayish amber with a lot of fine particles. Flavor starts faintly sweet and moderately acidic, then the long finish is lightly acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is medium, oily with a carbonation between soft and lively. This is a pretty good IPA, simple in some respects, bold in others.
3.7 Dark golden pour from bottle with a white head. Aroma is piney and hoppy. Taste is citrus, pine cones and malt. Bitter finish. Another solid IPA from Moylan’s.
3.4 Bottle on sale...foreboding. Pours a cloudy murky mango color with one finger of off white head. Nose is definitely past prime, bready and oxidized. Some peach and musty old hops. So goes the flavor. Earthy and herbal hop character. Will try fresh.
4.0 Pours hazy gold into a Sam glass. Off-white head with good retention recedes leaving sheet lacing to skim surface. Caramel, resin and grapefruit aromas. Medium bodied with upfront resin turning to caramel in the middle before a lasting grapefruit finish.
3.5 Thanks for sharing this Mike! Deep hazed copper/gold with a frothy sticky lace cap. Intense nose of toffee, burnt sugars, citrus, aluminum, some pine. Tastes quite sweet, with a marked bitterness that doesn’t seem to be enough for this malt bomb. Very fruity with citric pith.A huge mother of an IPA. Thick, viscous, drinks like a double.Long finish. Good!
3.1 Clear golden body with a fizzy, off-white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is mostly hops with notes of resin and grapefruit. A slight hint of toasted grain. The flavor is lightly to moderately bitter and lightly to moderately sweet. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately to heavily bitter with the bitterness lingering well into the aftertaste. Medium body, water texture turning sticky in the finish, lively carbonation. This is pretty much the definition of a West Coast IPA — heavily hopped, so much so that it overpowers the malts.
2.6 (22oz bomber thanks to mar) Fruity hoppiness with some cat pee additions in the aroma. Burnt orange color. Super bitter- like kinda kicking my ass bitter. I don’t think I can take this much bitterness though.
3.6 The beer pours a golden yellow color with a white head. The aroma is a great mix of hops and malt. I get some pine and orange citrus notes, but this is balanced with a lot of caramel malt. The flavor is more of the same, with a lot of orange citrus hop notes as well as some bready and caramel malt. Definitely maltier than I was expecting. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
2.3 Cask at the brewery. Light golden pour, well-laced white head. Not much nose. Taste is thin and bitter. No comparison to the N. Cal ipa or Hopsickle.
3.7 Aroma: citrusy but not in an acidic sort of way, more juicy, and, of course, hops; Appearance: medium to thin white head upon pour, hazy yellow, more pale than honey yellow; Taste: upon first swig, I was confronted with a bitter that sucker punched me in my taste buds, my first impression was, "man, this is the most bitter hopped beer I’ve ever had," and, honestly, I think this is a true statement, the only thing I can think of that rivals it is Sierra Nevada’sTorpedo IPA, after my taste buds settled down from the bitter assult, they were able to pull out the distinct tast of apricot, specifically, dried apricot, it was so pronounced to me, that I could picture eating those dried apricot slices, this was followed by a "wood"ish taste, but not burnt/smoked wood, nor cedar/juniper, just kind of reminded me of how lumber, in general, smells; Palate: the bitter stays for a long time, which is fine by me since I turn to IPAs for the hops, overall, very pleasing, lingering mouthfeel because of the great amount of carbonation; Overall: I really liked this beer even though I was in no way expecting such a punch, not as complex as other IPAs I’ve had, but, if you want to tell someone you’ve had a bitter (but awesome) beer, then this is the one to try, I would recommend it for the experience
