2.6 Translucent dark copper with a medium pale head. A lot of jackfruit on the nose. Flavors are pretty dull overall; some light fruit sweetness and creamy malts up front and finishes with some earthiness. Full body, no carb, dry finish. Just decent.
3.2 Botella 66 cl en el kraken cortesía Beni, 04..12..2016. Sin lote ni Fcpref. (r720). Color marrón rojizo turbio con espuma blanca Aromas y sabores maltosos ligeros afrutados algo de caramelos tostados. Toques tostados ligeras uvas. Cuerpo ligero a medio fácil de beber y con poco gas. Normal.
3.6 Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - deep amber to brown with a decent head. Nose - toffee and nuts. Honey. Taste - hazelnuts and toffee. Praline. Marzipan. Palate - medium to full bodied with a sweet and tangy texture. The finish is sweet and almost cloying but not bad. Overall - decent example of the style even if it could be sweeter.
3.8 Can from appellation dalry. Pours clear brown. Nose of raisins, malt loaf, brown toast, baked fruit. Taste follows nose, nice treacly character, resin, sweet, juicy finish.
3.7 Nice caramel, full flavored, full bodied scotch ale. A little bit of a bitter finish.
3.0 Can - pours dark amber. Aroma is honey, grainy malt and wheaty. Taste is sweet malt upfront and into the finish. Finish has grainy honey notes.
3.6 650 ml bottle, as Moylan’s Scotch Ale, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.0%. Golden reddish brown colour, large off-white head. Aroma of malts, caramel and woodwork, hints of dark dried fruits and red wine vinegar. Malty flavour, notes of caramel and dark dried fruits again, very moderate hops. Smooth to drink. Enjoyable.
2.6 Fra flaske på Mi2 Cardinal, aug-16: uklar brunlig med kort skum. Sparsomt humlet (men heldigvis ingen røykmalt å spore). Karamell, halvråtne røde bær. Kjedelig avslutning. Didn’t it the spot for me.
3.4 From bottle at Mi2 at Cardinal 29.08.16. Copper. Off-white head. Aroma and taste of dark syrup, toffee, berries and alcohol.
3.3 Copper red in color. Very, very malty. A little bread crust, brown sugar Sweet with good balance. Hops to balance. Slightly boozy.
3.0 Bottle 65cl @ Cervezas Diferentes, Coslada, Spain. A: Amberish brown. T: Roasted malt, caramel, raisins.
3.5 Can 500ml. Served at cellar temperature. Pours copper with a red tint. Head is off-white, averaged sized and quickly dissipates. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of burnt toffee, milk chocolate, figs and glazed cherries. Flavour is smooth with a light earthy bitterness, lightly toasted malts, milk chocolate, burnt brown sugar, nuts, raisins and tea leaves. Medium bodied with light carbonation and an average length finish. A little thin and one dimensional, but not a bad winter warmer by any means.
3.0 Draft: Poured a reddish brown with tan head. Aroma and taste is not very complex, super malty.
3.2 650ml bottle shared with friends. Hazy amber brown with a small slightly off-white head. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Malty bitterness with subtle sweet tones. Malts, caramel, yeast, spices and raisin. Mediocre, I’ve expected more.
3.5 Aroma is roasted malts, caramel, clove and and spice. Taste is an almost chewy malts, caramel and licorice . Appearance is a clear brown with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.
3.1 Bottle from Boise Co-op. Dark amber/ brown color with frothy head. Normal earthy, peaty aroma, but flavor comes off as a bit sweet, molasses and brown sugar. Mild bittersweet finish.
2.9 Draft at the brewery. Pours a clear amber color with a small beige head that settles into a ring. Notes of caramel, brown sugar, toasted malts, earth, old fruits, toffee, and dead leaves. Medium-bodied, with low to moderate carbonation and a sweet, sticky mouthfeel with a bit of a spoiled-like off note. Could be okay but it’s a bit off. Sub-par for the style.
3.2 Draft at the brewpub. Reddy amber coloured pour with a lasting cream frothy head. Aroma is sweet raisin, nutty malts, some alcohol. Flavour is composes of cakey, toffee, nutty, raisin and dried fruits. Palate is sweet, little cloying, grainy. OK. Malty beer.
3.0 [2/1/16] Draught at Moylan’s Brewery in Novato. Deep amber-brown. Aroma of malt, caramel, toffee, some fruitiness. Sweet flavor, with caramel, toffee, buttery note, and a slightly bitterish finish with a light alcohol note. Medium-bodied.
2.9 Draft - Sweet caramel and some almost red berry notes. Clear copper with a decent white head. Light grains, caramel and a bit of vegetal notes.
2.9 Draught at Moylans. Almost clear copper liquid with small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, dried fruit, light smoke and toffee. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of grain, light smoke and caramel. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Quite grainy. Forgettable.
3.2 Draft at source. Strong malty sweet and caramel nose. Very clear deep orange red with a small white head. Taste is incredibly malty up front with a hint a roast in finish. Light butterscotch. Decent.
3.6 Sample on tap at the brewpub. Clear copper pour with tenacious foamy white head. Aroma is very malty, barley candy, rich caramel/toffee. Taste of toasted malt, caramel, light booze, a bit like an english barleywine. Full bodied with med carbonation. Tasty.
3.7 Pours a cloudy rusty amber red color. Barely any head. No lacing. Aroma is earthy. Burnt sugar, dark fruits, dates, figs. Alcohol. I’m loving the aroma. Did I mention dates? Taste is very datey. This is very malty. It’s sweet, it’s nutty. Dates, figs, raisins, burnt sugar. Follows the nose. Not a lot to say, just follow your nose. Mouthfeel is full. It’s heavy. It’s sweet. It’s smooth. It’s slightly bitter at the finish. While you can’t really taste the alcohol, you can feel it. Overall, this is good. It’s not my favorite scotch ale, but it’s good. It’s still one I could recommend.
2.7 On tap deep reddish brown with a brief wispy tan head. Rather drab deep caramel peaty roast flavors. Very low carbination and a damp earthy character. Nothing stands out and rather boring.
4.0 Very tasty scotch ale from Moylans brewing in California! Will buy it again!
3.7 Pours a Ruby brown color with tan head. Good balance between malt and hop bitterness
2.8 I’d suggest this beer to those fairly new to the beer world, possibly brought in by West Coast Style IPA’s, and looking for the next logical step away from the heavy hops use and into something still heavy but with slightly more flavor. This has become a staple at the big chain grocery store closest to you. It’s a helpful stepping stone but nothing truly unique.
3.0 Found quite drinkable and refreshing. Too many beers are really hopped up these days so it’s nice to find something with a pleasant malt backbone. My pallet is not that great but I know when I find a brewpub that I like.
3.2 Draft. Opaque reddish-bronze color with minimal off-white head. Smokey malt, apple, and caramel in the nose with a hint of cinnamon. Rich malt with smokey notes upfront. Sweet malt and alcohol in the finish.
