2.6 341mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber with a medium beige head. Nose brings out earthy notes, caramel malt and some stale bready notes. Flavour is very malty and earthy, with bready caramel dominating with a touch of hops. Seems a bit stale. Okay.
3.5 Draft at MacGreg’s. Dark copper color with a nice light beige head and nice lace. Aroma has notes of light toasted malts, floral and light resins hops with some dark fruits and yeast. Flavor is slightly sweet at the beginning, notes of yeast and ripe fruit. Floral and moderate bitterness in the aftertaste.
3.8 2015 batch, 6-pack from LCBO. Pours a clear-ish burnt orange with minimal off white head. Nose is pine, earthy hops, orange rind, grass. Taste is balanced, earthy/grassy/bready malt with herbal/citrus hops and a nice bitterness on the finish. Tastes like fall. Reminiscent of Mad Tom for sure.
3.2 Brownish white finger of head, fades quickly and clings to glass. Copper colour, slight haze. A lot of caramel, toast, earthy, spicy, grassy. Med mouthfeel, med high carbonation, firm bitterness, slight astringency.
4.1 Reviewed from old notes. Pours an opaque ruby brown colour with one finger of long lasting white head, lacing clinging to the side of the glass. Aroma of elder flower and peaches. Taste: Malty, grassy, with a dry hoppy finish
3.8 Très malté au nez. Sucre caramélisé et mélasse. En bouche, c’est doux, rond et dense. Les sucres laissent leurs places aux houblons qui eux apportent une touche amère avec des saveurs de cantaloup et pamplemousse. Longue amertume.
3.2 Poured medium brown, with tan frothy head. Fresh aroma, a little toast. Medium body, medium bitterness, with smooth mouth feel. A bit too bitter at the end for my preference.
3.3 Cask. (Rating #6009)
3.8 Pour is a hazy burnt orange with a finger of tan cap that fades fairly quickly to a ring. This stuff smells like fall. At first I don’t get much, but if I close my eyes and breathe deep I get grassy hops, hay and dry leaves and earth, with caramel, fresh apples and pears, and a bit of citrus. Taste up front is almost like apple cider with caramel and roasted grain, with a smooth, slightly bitter, long finish. It’s rustic and seasonal and perfectly befitting a brewery located in the Muskokas. It doesn’t really have the hop profile to be an APA, at least to this humble reporter, but it’s still awful damn tasty.
3.2 Bottle @ SBWF 2014. Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy weak yeasty caramel hoppy aroma. Fruity malty spicy yeasty caramel flavor. Has a fruity malty spicy yeasty finish.
3.0 Bottle @SBWF 2014 Amber color, small white head. Grassy, malty aroma. Light-bdoied for ABV. Pale malty, grassy hops. Some gooseberry notes in the hoppyness. Simple.
3.7 Corked and caged wine bottle. That might not be necessary. This beer just screams "dry hopped harvest APA!", which is what it is, and those are pretty good, so luckily things worked out tasting good, albeit a bit on the nose.
3.7 Bottle. Dark copper in color with a whitish head. Bit of garden earthyness, some grassyness and later on even some citrus with little bit of spicy notes as well in aroma. Taste has got some grassyness and orange peel notes in it. Bit of grapefruit bitterness mixed with sweeter notes in the end.
3.4 Bottled@SBWF2014. Amber colour, small white head. Aroma is fruity, some ripe fruits, mild alcohol, nice nectar as well as some sweet malts to go along with it. Flavour is fruity, floral, nectary, mildly honeyish along with some sweet malts and a mild alcohol sweetness to it as well.
3.9 Bottle 750ml. corked @ home. [ As Muskoka Harvest Ale ]. [ Vintage 2013 ]. Clear medium amber orange color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, grass, dried fruity - hops - orange - citrus, caramelized dark citrus - orange. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light heavy bitter with a long duration, fruity, hoppy, caramel, warm dark citrus, dried fruity hops, hoppy, dry. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20140914]
2.7 Bottled at SBWF. Hazy copper colour, coarse head. Hay and caramel up front. Mid sweet with medium-full body and clean mouthfeel. Papery caramel, tired hay. Mid bitter finish.
3.1 Bottle. Pours a clear amber beer with a bubbly off white head on top. Aroma has veggies, grass, fresh hops and vegetation. Hops have faded in the background. Flavor is medium bitter and fairly uninteresting. Decent drinkability, but nothing new under the sun here.
3.8 750ml bottle from the LCBO. Amber body with thick frothy off-white head. Aromas of pine, fresh cut grass, earthy notes. Some caramel is present as well. Incredibly well integrated alcohol. The finish is exceptionally smooth and this beer is completely balanced.
4.4 Sunuvagun! Cottage country Ontar-i-ar-i-o brewing some damn tasties. Huge juicy, floral hops barrel you with a velvety smooth assault, backed solidly by caramel malts, some light grassy and hay notes as well. It lives up to its description and earns its cork. There is even some subtle but present tastes of fresh earth and fallen leaves. Gorgeous colour of reddish gold, off white lacing from the lovely head the whole way down. The perfect balance of oily, chewy textures in a medium bodied, mid carbed ale. Damn Muskoka. Damn.
3.5 Bottle. Pours deep amber, very clear, big off white head with moderate retention. Aroma of strong caramel, bread, slight hoppy pine and citrus. Flavor mostly caramel to taste, Stine resinous bittering on the finish.
3.7 Appearance: Pours coppery brown colour with about a finger of white head. Aroma: Hops, caramel Flavours: Hops, biscuit, cloves and baking spices, caramel Mouthfeel: Highly carbonated Overall: A nice beer but not as balanced as in previous years. This year’s version trends towards the hoppy side of things, not that there is anything wrong with that. I just remember previous versions having a really nice malty component that seems lacking from this version.
3.6 Small sample from bottle at Camping Ratebeer ’14. Pours hazy amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is a bit herbal with some caramel, malts and some toffee. Taste is also a bit herbal with caramel, maltiness and a medium bitter finish. Medium body and carbo.
3.7 2014 vintage, Appearance is great, deep amber-brown colour and a well-formed rocky, lacy head. Feel is kind of oily or creamy at first, but not really big through the middle. The finish is very nice with a burst of bitter dryness at the end. Taste is bitter throughout, but tempered by an initial sweetness and that nice creamy feel. Really quite a good beer.
3.6 750 ml bottle from the lcbo clear copper pour big frothy head smells lovely Taste does not live up to the aroma but still nice
4.0 (2013 Vintage Re-reviewed after one year cellaring) Pours a clear medium to deep amber with two fingers of fine tan head diminishing gradually to a thin cap and moderate patchy lacing. Nose is caramel malt, grassy and earthy hops, slight pine. Taste leads out sweet, giving way to herbal and piney hop bitterness. Medium body, medium to light carbonation, and a sticky, bitter finish. Interesting - I was a bit worried that I had killed this by cellaring it, particularly since there was some fluffy mould on the outside of the cork, but it’s still very drinkable. (I cleaned the mould with vinegar before opening the cork, and cleaned the neck before pouring.) There’s still quite a bit of hop character in the nose and on the tongue, and the aging may have mellowed the pine bitterness somewhat, but all in all, this might be something that one could age for a couple of years, just for fun. Might have to do that with the new vintage. (And yes, the new score is lower than the original - that’s a reflection of my own scoring recalibration, and not of this beer having gone downhill with time.)
3.2 @ Camping Ratebeer, Orange beer, aroma is corn or something like that, very harvest time-ish, taste was citrus,
3.7 Caramelkleur met een lichtbruine kraag. Ruikt honing, kruiden, caramel. Smaakt honing zoetig en hop.
3.6 Bottled @ Camping Ratebeers 2014, small sample. Slight hazy golden to orange color, short head. Aroma of hay, grassy, slight citrussy hop, biscuit. Soft bitterness, slight caramelly, bit grainy. Ok stuff.
3.5 Bottle shared @ Camping Ratebeer. Hazy dark orange to reddish color, small off-white to beige head. Taste malts, some hops, nicely bitter. Medium body and carbonation. Decent.
