Muskoka Summerweiss

Muskoka Summerweiss

Seasonally brewed and available in limited quantities, Muskoka Summerweiss ("vice") is crafted with visions of summer in mind. Naturally hazy by design, the perfect balance of wheat, barley and subtle hopping makes this an intriguingly aromatic, flavourful and sessionable summer wheat beer.

3.2 Sizzling summer afternoon pour brings this cottage country stab at the style. Pour is disappointing with an underwhelming cap that vanishes quicker than Stephen Harper’s toupee in a wind storm. Nose is solid hefeweizen. It’s a little unbalanced on the tongue, with the clove-versus-banana balance of the style clearly spilling over onto the banana side. Very refreshing & pretty damn tasty. This glass is going down very quickly. Gets blown out of the water by the best-in-class Side Launch but still a fine brew.
3.2 Hazy dark gold pour, Head disappears fast. Banana, Clove, Spice and Yeast in both the aroma and taste, with the Spice and Banana being fairly heavy. A bit of lemon tartness in the taste as well. Medium body.
3.5 473 ml can from the LCBO. Appearance: Pours a hazy amber colour with a finger of white head. Retention is short and lacing is slight. Aroma: Flour, yeast, cloves, floral aromas. Flavours: Lemon, flour, bit of banana. Mouthfeel: Very crisp finish with higher carbonation. Overall: A nice Hefeweizen with multiple components coming together in the aroma and flavour. I prefer the German counterparts to this one but it is still a decent beer.
3.2 Pours golden in colour, nice white head. Lots of lacing. Highly carbonated. Aroma and taste are nice, slightly citrusy, bit of banana, and some wheat and yeast.
3.0 Can at Firefly, pours a clear yellow with a small white head. Nose brings out some notes of banana and wheat. Flavour is big on the banana, with wheat and light clove. Pretty standard banana-forward hef. Decent.
3.5 Can bought at an LCBO in Toronto/Canada. Overall a good refreshing hefe weizen. Yellow golden color with a foamy head that loses its 2inch layer and keeps only a minimal head layer. Aroma of banana and clove. Taste mirros the aroma plus a hoppy citrusy dry side-taste that makes the beer a bit tropical. It reminds me of a Schöfferhofer weizen a bit. In the aftertaste there is some white wine and vinegar present.
3.4 Can from the LCBO. Cloudy pale gold with a large white head that fades fairly quickly and leaves some lace. Nose is banana, spice and a touch of honey. Lightly sweet honey and bread with a light spice. Mouth is medium light and crisp with soft carbonation. Nice enough Weiss
2.0 lots of head fades fast lots of tiny fast carbination. some of it at bottom does NOT look unfiltered some at top does. Can smells like beer and banana bread & spice(a bite) more banana bread. In glass smells sweet, spice, beer(ale) smell. Taste coreander/clove, a little sweet some water a wheat taste but not much of a banana bread taste more like lychee fruit or something.(little odd for a heff wheat beer) Not great but not awful. Cheer’s.
3.0 Appearance: hazy pale gold with a short white head diminishing gradually to a thin skim, spotty lacing. (3/5) Aroma: banana, clove, bready yeast. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, mild to moderate bitter. (6/10) Palate: light body, lively to moderate carbonation, medium duration finish. (3/5) Meh. A decent - if uninspiring - interpretation of a fairly uninspiring style. No real negatives, but it’s just not exciting. Got bored and dumped the second half. (12/20)
3.7 Mondial de la bière 2015 - Dorée, avec une auréole de mousse blanche. Nez de melon, de levure, de banane et de blé. Goût de banane, levure et de blé. Sèche en bouche et rafraîchissante!
3.2 Poured a pale golden colour, large bubbly head, ok lacing. Fairly well carbonated. Has a strong bitter mouthfeel. Tangy on the palate. Aromas are not too offensive, pretty tame with malts and yeast. Citrus flavours, lime, citric acid. Not too bad, sort of a weird overall feel to it.
3.3 draft at Coles, Buffalo NY. nice summer beer, orange citrus, cloves, bananas. good mouthfeel, nice summer hefe
3.6 Tall can from the LCBO. Pours a foggy yellow with thin white head. Nose is banana and spice. Taste delivers on the traditional flavours, but somewhat muted with a slightly bitter edge. I’d prefer it a bit less carbonated. Tasty wheat beer but Side Launch Wheat is still the Ontario king of the style.
3.1 pours a golden, translucent yellow with medium, white head. strong initial aromas of bread that don’t seem to last. Lots of fruit flavours on the tongue that are quickly quashed by a fairly prominent bitterness which is not normally evident in this style. Maybe it is just not to my tastes, but I would have preferred to see less bitterness to allow the natural yeast flavours to come through. Certainly has potential though.
3.9 A decent if slightly one dimensional addition to the Weiss beer. I go this under ’Muskoka Summer Weiss" and it was slightly expired. Nothing added to this beer as far as spice or citrus goes, just barley wheat hops and yeast, straight forward, and decent. It is an earthy beer, slightly bitter finish on a neutral start. Medium carbonation for the style. Boring yeast profile. It appears to be beer. Good body for the style, coats the tongue nicely and you can feel it going down. This is one of the few hefe’s that improves with added lemon in my opinion. Decent edition, has no bad characteristics many solid , and few good, no great... Just another solid entry.
3.0 355ml bottle at The Keg. Murky golden orange dishwater with no head. Flavors are banana, cloves, wheat, bread and citrus with herbal notes. Medium body, moderate carbonation, smooth texture.
3.1 330ml into an English pint. Pours a hazy golden with sparse head. Nose of grassy wheat and cloves and a bit of banana. Quite sweet, with a lasting citrusy aftertaste
4.0 A little belgian funk on the nose. Traditional wheat style more banana then clove. Nice body
3.8 On tap at the Ottawa Beerfest. An opaque light gold pour with a nice filmy head and good lacing. A wheaty light clove aroma. A nice smooth body with great wheaty spicy clove flavor, a touch bready. A really satisfying weizen. Much nicer than the Hop City.
3.4 Pours a slightly hazy light straw colour. The head died quickly and no lacing. Taste is of Bananas and cloves and citrus of course but the bananas lead the show. Very close to the Mill Street Wit, I’ll have to do a taste off and see who wins, but the Mill Street leads on the spice.
2.5 Hazy golden pour with no head or lacing. Sweet malt aroma with a strong clove and spice influence. Sweet flavour with clove and spices. Very sweet honey finish. Smooth texture.
3.6 Tap at bar hop, toronto. Pours pale gold with a white head. Aroma is light lemon, with a hint of custard. Light body, medium carbonation. Tart, with lemon, light raspberry, a hint of custard... Good balance, nice tart edge. Very drinkable.
3.3 Light golden, mildly cloudy. Strong aroma of fruit, banana and caramel in the aroma. Malt, caramel, fruit, hint of banana and apricot in the taste, mild metallic bitterness in the aftertaste. High in carbon, a bit watery.
3.7 Label on bottle says Summer Weiss but ratebeer says this is the same beer. Pours a hazy light straw colour with considerable carbonation. Very thin, quickly dissipating white head. Aromas are heavy on bananas, with some definite clove presence, and some wheat. Tastes are of bananas, cloves, citrus. Overall, this is a very refreshing, light summer brew, and I shall enjoy every one of the six pack I purchased over the coming summer weeks.
3.4 Aroma of barley, citrus, and spices (coriander) I believe. Yellow and hazy with a light white head. The taste matches the aroma with a smokey aftertaste.
3.3 Blanche légèrement voilé. Céréale. Maïs. Sucré. Levuré. Fruité. Pomme. Poire. Épicé. Bien.
3.2 from Mondial de la Bière 2013, Mulhouse; called Summer Weiss - quite clear dark golden-blond beer with a long lasting white foam; respectable notes of bananas and cloves; medium-bodied, quite moderate carbonation for its style; gently chewy and sweet; light residual sweetness and long notes of bananas and citrus - pretty nice
3.1 355 ml bottle. Pours a flaky golden with a resilient white head. Flavor is yellow prune, white bread, some banana. Finish is subtle herbs. Medium body, velvety mouthfeel, average carbonation. Alright thirst beer.
