4.0 Tap. Darkest brown color with beige head. Aroma is honey, chocolate. Taste is honey, chocolate, some gummibears even, light roast. Oily mouthfeel with low carbonation. Interesting, but a bit weird. 8-4-7-4-15 Tap, one day later - I liked it a bit more, it was not as extremely sweet. In general, though, perhaps this beer needs some time. 8-4-8-4-16
4.1 Sampled at Borefts 2019, Friday. A black beer with a tan head. Aroma of strong dark malt, some herbs, coffee. Taste of strong coffee malt, wood, liquorice, minimal boozy. Nice!
3.7 Tap @ Brewskival 24/8-19. Roasted malty with coffe and smokey notes. Body is full, the finish roasted malty.
4.4 Enjoyed several bottles, vintage 2007, in Copenhagen April 12, 2011. Pitch black pour with a tan head. Layers of complexity. An amazing and wonderful beer. I hope they begin releasing it again.
4.7 This is an amazing beer. It poured black with a thin white head. Aroma had a lot of coffee and bourbon, with some intense vanilla character. Flavor carried chocolate vanilla and charred caramel and wood notes. Notes: This was on tap at the Borefts beer festival held at De Molen in Bodegraven, NL in 2010, so these notes are 7 years old! It was barrel aged in Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels, and was likely a one-off variation, especially considering that they have retired it. No one added this variation to RB and I don’t have enough info to create a new beer for it, so this seems like the best place to put my notes...shame to waste them.
Kvalitet.
4.1 How: Bottle. Where: Man in the Moon, Stockholm. Appearance: Black colour with a beige head. Aroma: Chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, sugar, alcohol. Body: Full body, low carbonation. Flavour: Roasted malt, chocolate, alcohol, some liquorice, caramel.
3.9 bottle shared by a friend. finally. 2008 batch bottle. 25cl. poured a murky black colour with a tanned head on top. i have to be honest. it is def. past it’s prime now, oxidation has started, and it’s showing notes of some kiind of old wet dusty cellar aroma, behind that there are notes of roasted malts, salty liqorice, vineous notes, chocolate, charred ash, bitter roast, still some small coffee note in the taste aswel.. very thrilled that i finally tried ths one! to bad it took me so long to try it. can’t imagine how good this was back in the day
4.6 2007 Draft at Akkurat’s 20th anniversary party. Ordered over the shoulder of the founders/owners, who told me this is his favorite stout the brewery has ever made, which is saying a lot obviously. This is the best non-barrel aged imperial stout I have ever had. So complex and delicious. Beautiful smooth roasted malt, chocolate desert w/o the sugar. Fantastic.
3.8 2007 on draft. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, light smoke, butterscotch, caramel, licorice. Taste heavily roasted, semi-sweet, raisins, figs, coffee, slightly vinous with slight cardboard oxidation. Quite thick and surprisingly good mouthfeel. Without the hype I would just classify this is a solid imperial stout, maybe it’s way past its time.
4.2 Köpt på Akkurat, Stockholm. Lagrad sedan 2007. Mycket fin med stor smak av bl.a. Kaffe och kavring. Mycket intressant!
4.8 Draft at akkurat. Wow. The finish is mind blowing. Chocolate, coffee, vanilla and IT last foreever. Wow
4.4 Tap at Akkurat’s 20th Anniversary. Pitch black with tan head. Huge aroma and taste of chocolate, vanilla and roasted malt. Very well rounded, no oxidation at all. Just pure love in a glass.
4.2 18 cl bottle at Dangerous Bottleshares WHLZBRZ edition, ’07 edition. Pitch black flat pour. Earthy, chocolate, lightly oxidized, honey, vanilla, light tar and some savoury notes. Held up good!
4.0 18cl bottle enjoyed @ Dangerous Bottleshares - WHLZBRZ edition, 2007 bottle thanks to Phredrik! Pours pitch black with no head. Aroma is chocolate, butterscotch, roasted malt, earthy, molasses and liquorice. Flavour is sweet. Full bodied, oily texture, soft to almost no carbonation. Finish is rich but a little one dimensional.
4.2 Bottle thanks to Phredrik the fuckin’ mannnn at Dangerous Bottleshares WHLZBRZ-edition. Thank you so much for sharing this gem buddy. 2007 bottle. Pours pitch black, no head. 4.2 2007 (!!!!) Bottle at Dangerous Bottleshares WLZBRZ edition thanks to Phredrik! Pours a pitch black with barely no head. Aroma is very chocolaty with milk chocolate, caramel, port wine, slight earth, roasted barley, lots of different chocolate notes, licorice. Taste is sweet, oily, sweet licorice, dark deep chocolate, dusty earthy finish. Maybe some old hops. roasty bitter and dark cocoa powder. Very little carbonation and a sticky, oily body. Thrilled to try this at last!
4.7 11/2/2009 3:57:58 AMOn tap, both 2007 and 2008 at BBF. Solid black body with thin brown head. Very malty and chocolate nose. Just delicious. Flavour also of malts, coffee, chocolate. Just rolled down the throat like a sauced-up chocolate malt. Delicious.
4.0 Bottle shared big thanks to Dan. Pours a deep dark brownish black without any head. Aromas of dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, and dark fruits. Taste is smooth and roasty. Although fairly one-note, this is really great for how old it is. I was expecting a de molen beer but was very surprised.
4.0 Poured a very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma was of deep dark roast, dark chocolate, and dark fruits. Flavor similar, more Americano zed than I would have expected, and gets a boost point for holding up for 8 years.
4.0 2007 Bottle shared with mega thanks to Dan. Poured pretty much black with no head. Aroma sweet molasses caramel dark malts roasty grain. Min carb med bod. Taste sweet choc caramel dark fruit.
4.1 Bottle (Thanks Omhper) (2008 version) A black colour with a light brown head. An aroma of roasted malt, wood, chocolate, liquorice and dried fruit. The taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter.
4.2 Bottle: 2008 vintage. Huge thanks to Erik for trading me this 25cl beast. Thick, oily black pour with a creamy, fine-bubbled tan head that slowly forms moments later. Super robust aroma, could smell this as soon as I cracked the bottle. Molten fudge, chocolate cake, leather, bitter coffee grounds, anise, sweet blackcurrant, burnt caramel, brown sugar, a touch of smoke, heavily roasted malts just edging on ashy with a slight kiss of char. Flavor up front is full of silky, bittersweet dark chocolate. Like biting into a 86% cacao bar with wafts of coffee beans, roasted malts, & light anise following right behind. Lots of smoked barley, hinting with an underscore of leather, tobacco, & mild smoke, slightly reminiscent of Hair of the Dog’s Adam. Finishes with anise, dense fudge, light soy, burnt caramel, & bitter cocoa nibs. No oxidation, even with ~7 years on it. Delicious, with a creamy & smooth body. No bells & whistles, just a simple, amazing imperial stout.
3.5 Bottle at the Ultimate Imperial Stout Tasting. Hum, this one’s a bit over its time. One can still detect a decent dose of roasted malts and coffee, but it has faded and oxidation has kicked in through some port notes. Interesting nevertheless.
3.9 Bottle at the Ultimate Imperial Stout Tasting. Thnx for the awesome day, folks! This bottle was shared by gEUS. 2008 edition. Pours black, small grey head. Smell is green vegetables. Taste is bit bitter, good amount of roasted malts. Bit coffee. Nice, but not as nice as the hype goes ... ( Age ? )
3.6 2008 bottle at WWT tasting. Black with short lasting beige head. Dried stone fruits, cognac, dark chocolate, port wine, old wood, moldy rye bread. Medium sweet. Full bodied. Past its prime here, but still drinkable.
4.0 Bottle [2008 version] @ WWT IV thanks to Caesar. Opaque pitch black color, medium to full sized creamy brown head that lasts for a long time and leaves good lacing. Aroma is malts, liquorice, alcohol, lightly roasted malts, caramel. Taste malts, liquorice, some alcohol, dark malts, moderately bitter. Decent body, soft carbonation. Past its prime I guess but still decent.
4.1 Bottle. 2008. Pours black tan head. Nose/taste of roast, chocolate brownie and vanilla. Full body.
3.9 Bottle @ New Years Tasting. 2008 vintage. Thnx to Martijn for sharing this rare gem. Pours a pitch black beer with a very small beige head that leaves directly after pouring. Aroma is malty, coffee, some herbal notes like laurel and it has this typical Närke feel to it. Flavor is quite thin to be honest, very malt forward and licorice. Some port and madeira notes in the back, boozy mouthfeel and finish. Good stuff, but I think the age is getting to this beer now.
3.9 Bottle (250 ml) @ Man in the Moon. Vintage 2008. Black with a small bubbly beige head and little lacing. Aroma is of dark chocolate, roasted malt, berries, soy sauce, molasses and sherry notes. Taste is of dark chocolate, molasses, roasted malt, sherry, soy sauce, light acidic notes and some fruitiness. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Sticky finish. Pretty good RIS, but it’s clearly showing signs of age and oxidation. A little bit better than the Pure Swedish Oak we had side-by-side with this one, but miles away from the Konkajks! version we had at Akkurat the day before. I can see why the ratings were so high a few years ago though.
