1.8 On draught at the brewpub. Aromas of alcohol and massive malt. Clear brushed-gold/copper with off-white head. Taste is cloying malt - viscous and like tree sap. No hops detectable. If I was expecting an old ale, i might feel differently, but was looking forward to a DIPA and this one misses the boat.
3.5 Sample at Top of the Hops Biloxi. Hazy golden orange color, off white head. Aroma of sour orange and grapefruit. Taste is juicy, fruity, bitter and bready. 200th rating of this bad boy.
4.2 From the bottle. Think white head. Aroma is grassy and some wet hop. Flavor is similar, really grassy. Much different take on dipa. I felt like my first instinct was the warrior hop. Overall good beer, napa Smith never disappoints.
3.2 A golden DIPA with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with orange pulp, floral hops, doughy and creamy notes, OK. In mouth, a overly sweet caramel malt with floral hops, light menthol, orange pulp, OK for the style. On tap at Brew Hub Lakeland.
3.1 22 ounce bottle from california .. . light copper .. strong foam, lacing .. . woo! not over! .. . mild flowers, resin, and some baby pine .. . a bit thin in the mouth and has a stagnant aftertaste .. . . when I hear someone say, "chicken pot pie," I get excited three times.
4.0 651ml bottle (shared) at the Tipping Point Brewing Co on Wyndham Street in Hong Kong. Poured into a tulip glass. Medium amber colour with a medium sized head. Aroma of citrus and hops. Heavily hopped, some malt with citrus flavours. Grapefruit, lemons, oranges and apricot. A lovely strong IPA.
3.7 Aroma invades your nostrils with spicy pine notes and heavy malt. The flavor is wet and grassy, touches of dried apricots and sweet ripe oranges. Napa Smith has a really heavy, sweet malt profile on all their beers (that I´ve tried) and that’s not a good thing, but here in this badass it works perfect. It is almost chewy and a bit oily.
4.0 Look: pours a dark copper. Off white head. Slight haze. Smell: very vegetal. Sweet. Caramel. Hops. Citrus fruit. Taste: no citrus. Similar to a Lagunitas ale. Caramel. Slight bitterness. Somewhat balanced for an ipa. Nice malts Feel: minimal dryness. Leaves a thin film on the mouth like an ipa. Overall: good beer. Not overly hoppy. Feels like an IPA. But more malt than expected. First drank: home 10/12/14
2.6 Bottle. Golden color, with a nice head. Aroma and taste is just way too hoppy. Malt is needed in beer too.
4.2 Pours two fingers of foamy head on a hazy straw colored body. The aroma is bold pine and grapefruit with a little pineapple and mango in the background. The taste is big and bold with pine, lemon and grapefruit bitterness exploding though balanced out with some dose of malt. The texture is smooth. Quite good.
3.4 12oz bottle from Epcot. Poured a deep chunky amber body under a large frothy light tan head. Aroma of caramel, molasses, dark corn syrup, sweet orange fruit, dark sugar, and vanilla candies. Flavor of vanilla candy, molasses, sweet sugary citrus meat, grapefruit rind, dark sugars. Big body, chewy, cloying, average carbonation. Meh seems more like a barley wine
3.4 Really good overall, really short after tase in your palate, nice color and head
2.9 "Not sure of the age on this one...in hindsight, I’m guessing somewhere in the not so fresh range. Ample bitterness, but lacking any floral or citrus quality in the aroma, just some back of the mouth tropical fruitiness and a ton o bitters. Malt heavy in a way that suggests age. Not a fan for the coin."
3.8 På flaska @ Queens Head. Mörk bärnstensfärgad. Luktar tallbarr. Mjuk söt smak som rundas av med en härlig beska.
3.4 Tap. Murky dark golden-brown. Good head on pour. Very piney nose. Lots of grapefruit, some syrupy sweetness, pine-bitterness.
4.3 This is a very strong beer. Tons and tons of hops. But it’s not all bittering hops, just mostly. This actually seems happier to me than a stone ruination.
3.9 Deep caramel orange in color... Aroma is sticky wet citrus hops, caramel malts... Flavor is really pleasant, malt forward with citrus notes, light bitterness throughout... Finish is incredibly smooth, vanilla and oak on the palate... Great beer
3.9 Orange copper pour with light haze. Aroma is sweet citrus and pine. Taste is sticky sweet with light bitter bite.
3.5 Actually a great IPA, orange pour, white head, bitter citrus smell and taste, piney, very good.
3.4 651ml bottle from The Beer Store Wilson. Dark orange hue, murky clarity with mostly diminishing off-white fizzy head, Good lacing. Orange hop, floral (roses), pine and malt aromas. Heavy bitter dry citrus hop up front with a light short floral and pine finish. Lively carbonation, watery texture.
4.0 Gorgeous here! Pours a murky brown-amber into the glass, with a light ring head that leaves sudsy lacing. The nose is of sweet, sweet caramel candies. Flavors carry forth this caramel sweetness, with added fresh hops, dried apricots, pine resin and light bourbon that finish with a lingering bold bitterness. This is very complex and substantive, with a full body, candied mouthfeel, light carbonation activity and smooth drinkability for the ABV and IBU’s in play. Wonderful Impy IPA here!
3.4 (bottle) hazy orange gold. Aroma of grass and fruit with hints of alcohol. Flavor is citrus/tropical fruit/grassy hops. Slightly sweet malt.
3.4 From a 12 oz bottle shared in Avon, NC. Pours a cloudy brown with an off white head. Piney hop nose. Flavors of caramel with hints of mandarin orange. Medium heavy bodied. Moderate carbonation. Bitter finish.
3.4 12 ounce bottle pours a golden orange color with minimal head. Pine and resinous aroma with some sweet smell also. Seems extremely bitter just for the sake of being bitter. Very harsh aftertaste. Unpleasant.
3.7 12 oz bottle pours amber with a white head. Aroma of citrus, pine and sweet malts. Taste is caramel, citrus and some spice.
3.4 bottle. clear, amber pour with thin lasting head. big boozy, hop aroma. big body, big in malt and hops. oily, sugary, bitter finish.
3.6 For having 144 IBUs this actually wasn’t as much of a hop bomb as I was expecting; I guess the wine barrel aging takes away some of the bitterness? The flavors and aromas are nice and citrusy but a little one dimensional. Not much malt presence to balance the hop bitterness. Overall though this was pretty good, however.
3.3 Bottle at Disney Hollywood Studios. Orange amber pour with tan head. Light hops and some malt like aromas, flavors follow was really hoping for a richer, fresher hop tones.
4.1 Bottle at California adventure. Pours a dark orange. Thick white head. Scent of hops, some citrus. Taste is a nice floral hop. Strong hop flavor lingers for a while. Good beer.
4.0 Had this at Epcot center in Disney world. Good hop aroma, piney grassy aroma and taste. Not enough bit but overall a good IPA.
