3.42011 backlog. 12oz bottle. Pours hazy amber with a one finger beige head. The nose is caramel and fruity citrus. The taste is toffee, molasses, overripe citrus and some faint resin in the finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good Red. 3.4
3.6Cloudy caramel in color... Aroma of toffee, citrus, sweet caramel... Flavor is burnt toffee, apple, candy, sweet caramel, light hop notes on finish... Pretty sweet, but enjoyable...
3.0Rated on 6-07-2011 (Bottle) This beer has a small fizzy ivory head with a short retention, transparent amber body, fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, citrus, pine hops, and apples. The taste is semi-crisp, lightly bitter, citrus, pine hops, and a hint of apples. The mouthfeel is smooth and this is a medium bodied beer. I did not get any "big hoppy flavor" as the description says. It is somewhat crisp and refreshing on a hot summer day.
3.2Bärnstensfärgad med litet ljust skum. Doftar både humle och malt och i smaken finns det humle och lite karamell malt! Ok öl!
3.212oz bottle, pours a robust amber with tall head. Sweet malt in the aroma. Caramel malt, bread, citrus hops, fairly sweet all around. Kind of a unique taste for a red.
3.522 oz. bomber from a local liquor store. Aroma is very unique, like persimmon pudding with caramel and oak. Nice light amber/ orange/red pour with a creamy white head, leaves lacing. Taste is sweet and complex, with the right amount of bitterness. Has some dough and fruit character. Medium body, thick texture, average carbonation, long sweet finish. A good example of the style with an added level of complexity. The 7.2% alcohol is well hidden.
2.3Bomber from Imbibe Wine. Nose is citrus with light caramel. Clear amber with a small white head. Flavor is lightly bitter with some caramel.
2.4@ Party Town / Florence KY Cloudy dark amber, no head, no lace. Taste is malt and dark fruit with slight bitterness that moves through the palate and finish without change. Inoffensive, static, I can drink it, but why?
3.3Bottle from Safeway in Cordelia, CA. Pours a dark amber color. Really like the mild hop character followed up by a good amount of malty caramel goodness.
3.1Tap: Clear, copper to red with medium head. Red fruit beer, caramel, medium hoppy lift, citrus rind, orange, clean, bright, spice. Off dry, not sour, medium bitterness. Medium weight and length. Rich finish. Hops are used wisely for a west coast style Amber Ale. Rich and primary.
2.9Amber with a white head. The aroma has a lot of toffee as well as some grass and light pine. The flavor is similar with a lot of toffee and caramel. Fairly sweet overall with a good bit of alcohol noticeable. Also get some light pine notes and a low amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
2.5Bottle. Amber color with a medium head. Hazy with a lot of floaties. Aroma was malt and caramel, didn’t get much hops. Taste was caramel, slight floral, maybe a little funk. Must of been a old beer.
3.0Poured into a Napa Smith pint glass at the Napa Smith Brewery. From notes, July 29, 2012. Thanks Karl!
A: Roasted malt, caramel sweetness, hints of dark fruit and pine.
A: Pours a hazy copper in color with a decent head and some lacing.
T: Follows the nose with roasted malt, caramel sweetness and a mild bitterness and a dry finish.
P: Medium body, smooth and decent carbonation.
O: Decent beer, very quaffable, but nothing I would go out of my way for.
3.7Starfruit and honey nose with some oaky highlights. Murky amber, medium yellow head. Honey and oak flavor with grapefruit toward the back end, very woody. Medium body. Well balanced, but a little stale and oxidized. Not typical of the style, but tasty. I would get this again.
2.81 Oct 2013, bottle. orange/brown, murky. nose is yeasty bread and red fruit. med/thin body and mildly fizzy. yeasty raisin bread. maybe some toasty malt finish. meh.
3.5DATE TASTED: August 22, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Victory Hop Devil nonick... OCCASION: last night of camp thoughts--a good eight weeks...APPEARANCE: handsome reddish-brown body supports a thick off-white head that laces reasonably well; subtle bubbles... AROMA: sweet caramel and cinnamon; hops are light and aromatic--suggestive of soft pine; malts lend a Scottish allure...PALATE: like a brown ale, beginning with a solid malty backbone; hops tickle the teeth, but the malt holds the trump in the profile...TASTE: significant warming aftertaste; medium-bodied, almost an IPA; the alcohol is palpable... OVERALL: an intriguing purchase that may not live up to its bomber status; rounded enough to be a thought on St. Patty’s day, but not powerful or substantial enough to demand attention on a non-holiday night; not much of a summer beer either; still, not without its merits or usefulness...
3.3355 ml bottle, rated from backlog. Clear amber with small off-white head. Aroma sweet and malty with lots of caramel and citrus hop notes. Taste with caramel, citrus. Taste: caramel and citrus peel with medium bitterness.
2.5Nose of caramel, soup bullion, and red goop. Head is creamy off white and dies before the pour is finished. Slightly cloudy muted red. Mouth feel is very watery. Flavor is barely detectable until the swallow. Then a slap of bitter hops hits you. Higher alcohol content is not noticeable. What the purpose of red beers are I know not. This screams mediocrity. 2.5 out of 5.
3.2Draught @ Napa Smith Brewpub, Napa, CA
Pours clear deep golden/amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, citrus and biscuit. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long malty, caramel and bitter finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
3.4On tap at brewery. Pours amber with an off white head. Aroma of malt, some spicy notes and caramel. Flavor is sweet and malty with some brown sugar, red berries and caramel. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.1On tap at the brewpub. It pours a clear amber body and a small off-white head. Sweetish malty caramel aroma with some faint citrusy hops. Medium body with very soft carbonation. Caramel and citrus peel in the flavor, some bitterness. Sweet finish. Decent, but a tad uninteresting, one in the crowd. 130807
4.1Rich. Malty. Not too hoppy. The only quibble that I have is that it would be more balanced if it were lower in alcohol. As it is it is a bit too cloying. Make it a 6% and it would be perfect. Look at the label closely; there is a happy ending.
3.2On tap at brewpub on 061713. Hazy amber, small white head. Aroma is malty, hard bread, roasted grain and light hops. Taste is medium sweet with fruits and caramel, light bitter.
3.8From notes still on my phone from the 2011 MWBF. I’d forgotten I’d ever had this. Another red beer with a dog name on it, I wonder where that started. Pours orange color, kind of hazy from the bottle. A little foam. A nice malty smell with more supporting hops, perhaps orange and mango flavor. Very spritzy texture. Taste still has tropical juice instead of the regular citrus hop. Now there’s a bit of frizzy orange juice after all. Pretty amazing.
3.5Poured from a bottle, a beautiful clear amber color, with a big fluffy off white head. The look of this red ale is nice. The aroma is malty, maybe some fruits. Can't tell. Almost has a funk smell to it. Taste is hoppy. I would try this again on tap.
3.3Nice amber color. taste is dry with caramel and hops. Clean finish with medium mothfeel
3.9Bright amber colour with a plentiful, coarsely fluffy cream coloured head. I do like the colour of a red ale. The aroma is of lush fruity malts. It really smells of peach tart and some grassy hoppiness. It’s a simple description but I want to emphasise that the aroma is beautiful. It has a prickly carbonation and then out comes a flow of lush darker citrus and caramelised orchard fruits given by the malts. There is also a zingy zesty citrus coming from hops that I find rather endearing. The bitterness is fairly subtle. I came into this beer thinking that the aroma hops would be accompanied by a massive rush of bittering but it had a certain restraint about it that I didn’t expect. This is the sort of ale I would quite like to brew myself with a few changes to the hop varieties and abv. However, this incarnation is lovely.
2.2Bottle. Murky reddish orange pour with a small head. Kind of a boozy dusty caramel pour, taste is almost a foul sour. Not a fan of this.
3.6-Bready malty aroma with big woody hop aroma
-Pours hazy light amber color with lasting creamy yellowish white head
-Strong bready biscuity flavor with balanced amount of woody earthy hops.
- Medium bodied, medium CO2, bitter earthy finish
-well balanced brew. Like a better version of fat tire. I would be happy to drink a few of these into the night.
3.12013 bottle to a pint glass. Pours a clear amber/orange color with a small off-white head. Aroma is a sweet sorghum smell with a grainy quality. Taste is a sweet malt with some floral bitterness in the middle. Some caramel comes through in the end with the bitterness tasting more herbal as it lingers on the tongue. A medium thick mouthfeel.
