Roll out the Barrel: 5.0% Alcohol by Volume and 12 IBUs. A classic American lager and the workhorse of the Gansett stable. Available all year long in bottle, can and on tap!
Quality Supreme: We brew our lager with six row malt, seedless hops, corn from Iowa, our lager strain (the same one the brewery has depended on since just after Prohibition), and the purest water from Lakes Ontario and Hemlock.
Taste & Enjoy: This beer is brewed just right for drinking—crisp and refreshing. It’s got more flavor than other premium lagers, yet it’s one of the most drinkable beers in the world. Narragansett has the highest rating of all domestic premium lagers on BeerAdvocate.com, and received the bronze medal for American Lagers at the 2008 World Beer Cup
The History: The Lager is old reliable. It was the first beer brewed by “The Original Six” back in 1890, the bestselling beer in New England from the 1930s to the 1970s, and the official beer of the Boston Red Sox from 1944-1975.
Note: Contract brewed by High Falls Brewing Co. for since 2007, the production moving to City Brewing in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 2009 and then to the City Brewing plant in Latrobe, PA in 2010. It is anticipated that production may be returned to Rhode Island in the future.

3.3Can shared by friends. Clear gold pour with a thick white head. Aroma of malt and crisp lager yeast. Sweet malt flavor with a crisp finish.
3.415 ounce draft at Lizardville in Copley, Ohio. Smell sweetness. Golden yellow with white head. Taste sweet with slight grain taste. Smooth. Slight sweet aftertaste. Really drinkable beer. Cheers!
2.8Medium gold with white head. Light hay aroma. Light sweet taste with a tiny hop tinge. Thin finish
3.016 ounce can. Pours a clear golden hue with a medium white head. A light sweet honey nose. Probably adjuncts. Sweet flavor, toast, light bready malts. Clean. Solid.
3.9Gold pour thin foam. Even lace. Sweet easy drinkable beer. Sweet palate with a wheat flavor
2.5Couple swigs from a tall boy. It's a lager folks. Easy to drink. Words words words
2.3Pretty boring stuff and typical. Easy to drink with just about any food. Low hops and cereal malts. Meh.
1.8Found out of can. Pours a clear straw yellow. It's pretty much a PBR or something of that caliber. Fine for a quantity beer.
2.5A golden color with a white head. The aroma contains some lemons, grass, and corn. What you really want to know is this. Is it better than standard BMC stuff? Answer yes. This has some bitter citrus notes and a slight malt presence. Overall a standard lager slight cheaper and slightly better than the usual suspects.
2.6Trübes Gelb mit einem schmallen Strich Schaum.
Aroma: Malz, Zitrus, Stroh,
Geschmack: Malzsüsse, Gras, etwas Getreide.
Etwas wässrig.
2.6Tastes like the classic american beer. It goes down easy on a hot summer day. It’s a smooth beer but can’t give it a higher rating since there is not much character.
2.9Bottle with screw off cap. Pours a clear pale yellow color with a small fizzy white head and poor retention. No real aroma. No lacing. Decent sweet pale lager. Definitely sessionable. Slight skunk taste but sweet enough to pull it off. Thin, watery mouthfeel.
5.0Smooth and refreshing on a hot summer day after yard work. A very even beer. Got it in the throwback cans from “Jaws”. Hey if Quint drinks it then it must be good. Cheers.
3.1[16oz can from Total Wines, Naples, FL.] A bright straw coloured pour with a tight creamy white head and light carbonation; light grassy aroma; sweet cereal grain taste; a hint of bitterness, and nothing more. A perfectly acceptable light lager.
3.5Clear gold color poured with one finger of a nice white head. Malty aroma with a solid grain flavor profile. Light with a clean finish. Nice.
1.5Tastes of barley, malt and a very small amount of hops. More of a pilsner flavor than a lager
3.2A wholly respectable pale lager. Scads more flavor than most macros out there, even if it's not a challenging beer. Some notes of corn and grass, drinks easy.
Couple of tallboys for the CIO conference at the wharf in SW DC.
1.8Pale golden pour with a white pour. The aroma is lightly sweet and a bit corny. There's a bit of grassiness and a touch of lemon as well. Sort of sweet and lightly floral. Pretty standard American lager.
2.2Can in Manhattan, New York. Nice label, but contents are a bit boring. Doesn't differ really much from the other mass market lagers.
1.5Optisch helles Lager, made on honor, sold on merit, hätte mich vielleicht stutzig machen sollen - aber hey, Rhode Island Biere kriegste nicht so oft. In der Nase echt grenzwertig, im Trunk sehr plädderich, billiges Pale Lager, Budweiser lässt grüßen.
2.7On tap at Hogshead Tavern. Pours orange gold. Peach, orange, lemon, bit of sulfur, bit of sweetcorn. Medium body. Not a bad example.
0.9OK...I'll admit. My mission on this RI vacation was to try as many new local beers as I can. Then after reviewing my review on the porter that they sell in FL, as well as noticing the low prices and following up on reputation, I figured out that this brewer just isn't that good. Anyways, was at Foxwoods Casino and they have free drinks. Choices (Bud, Bud Light, Coors, Coors Light, and Narrangansett Lager). I know about all the first choices so figured I'll give this a try. How bad could it really be, right? After a few sips I know that I probably should have gone with a Budweiser. Hard to find a pale lager that I like....this could be on the low end of the scale...pretty much for all beer. Corn and water in the flavor. Virtually no hops. Flatter carbonated mouthfeel. It doesn't get much worse than this folks!
2.416 oz can pours a golden color with a nice white head. Aromas of wheat, malt, light floral. Light bodied, simple.
2.516 oz can (Old Rating) Pours golden with a white head. Aroma of corn, malt, and grass. Taste of the same. This pale lager was better than expected. Not too shabby.
3.0Pour from a pint can. Clear golden brew with small head. Aroma of sweet malt and corn, a little grass. Taste is sweet grain up front, corn notes, sweet through out with moderate grass at the very end. Taste is clean and well crafted, though the grain is corny I get no offensive notes. Better than most adjunct lagers and emjoyable to drink.
1.7This beer is exactly like someone bottled Pabst blue ribbon and old Milwaukee together. Has to be really cold to enjoy. The manufacturer of the can is amazing with the quick whit and putting made on honor and sold on merit for the slogan.... in all this beer cost me 5.99 for a 6 pack of 16 ounces.... if you are having a night where you need a gansett, this is your beer.
3.1Pint with an indecipherable canning date stamp. Pours clear topaz with a creamy film of foam on top. Nose is honey, toasted maize, spicy grass and a hint of lemon. Flavor is more of the same. Smooth medium carbonation and a near-medium mouthfeel in this slightly sweet leaning beer. This would have been a go-to brew 40 years ago in high school days if it had been available in my area.
2.616 oz single can from Total Wine & More - Springfield. Clear golden appearance with a small white head. Mild aroma of grains and light adjuncts. Similar flavor, adding mild sweetness and minimal bitterness. Light and watery on the palate with a semi-smooth finish. A little boring overall.
1.3Fairly bland. Nasty stuff. Beer has some white out and adjunct, cloying finish. Can.
1.7Pours amber with a thick white head. Aroma is slight and sweet. Tastes like a premium lager. Sweet malt taste with a hint of hops. Tad more flavorful than a comparable premium lager. Palate is extremely simple. Drinkable but unremarkable.
