Nebraska Reserve Series Apricot Au Poivre Saison

Nebraska Reserve Series Apricot Au Poivre Saison

A Saison (Say-Sahn) is a Belgian Farmhouse Summer Beer, referring to the simple fact that very small “farmhouse” breweries typically made these beers. Lighter in alcohol, ours is 7.5% (not exactly light but that’s just us!) and golden to orange in color and unfiltered. Ours is spiced with both Apricot puree and Black Pepper. The taste is light, refreshing and nicely fruited to start. Medium mouth-feel. After taking a drink, the black pepper dries the palate and creates a nice tingling sensation on the tongue.

3.9 Nebraska Abricot au Poivre aged in Chardonnay barrels. 6.8% This beer pours a beautiful honey gold with a thick white head that leaves soapy lacing behind. Great aroma of fruity Chardonnay, white pepper and apricots. A bright joyful aroma. Effervescent with a surprising tart fruity hit, then soft oak and pepper plus funk. A somewhat sweet tartfruit characteras well. It finishes really dry, if you know a white wine drinker who hates beer give them this and you’ll change their mind in no time. Wonderful with dinner, classing up my humble donburi.
4.6 Big fruit amazing smells. Cloudy peach color light thin white head. Smooth balanced dry apricot tartness. Dry lasting flavor.

3.9 Clear golden orange, thin whitish head... Aroma of apricots, Chardonnay oak and butter, light fruits and pepper.... Flavor is lightly peppered, hints of apricots, earthy grains, Chardonnay butter... Very easy to drink... Nice beer
3.7 750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy, golden orange with a large, long lasting, frothy, white head that laces. Sweet aroma of apricot, pepper, oak and a light funky note. Sweet apricot flavour with oak, yeast, a hint of pepper and a dry, white wine, warming alcohol finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Not bad.
3.3 Lightly hazy gold with a thin white head. Fruit and farm up front with a peppery finish.
4.0 bottle with qc crew - thanks guys! pours unclear very pale golden with a small creamy white cap, good retention and lacing. very yeasty - spicy and peppery belgian say-zahn, fruity too - oranges and apricots - tart peppery peaches/nectarines, leather, sweat, cheese, woodsy - soft yet present barreling components, light welcoming acidity. lively carbonation, light body - oily; pleasantly tart and relatively dry spicy-citrusy finish. good stuff!
3.7 Bottle 750ml. [Blind tasted] Pours golden with low-medium white head. Some lacing. Aroma is of blood, yogurt, yeast, perfume. Taste is of blood, metal, sugar, caramel, fruits, alcohol, bretts. Palate: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Overall: Nice stuff. Good wild yeast. Pepper went mia for me.
3.8 Bottle. Cloudy deep golden color, fluffy white head. Aroma of peppery stone fruit, decent funk. Taste is black pepper, hay, straw, fruit. Tasty. Earlier Rating: 10/10/2011 Total Score: 4 Bottle. Cloudy straw colored, fluffy white head with solid lacing. Aroma of light spice and summer fruit. Apricot really comes out in the flavor, more like dried apricots and white wine. Interesting stuff. Fruit is not overwhelming, and neither is the barrel.
3.7 Bottle shared by Tommy, thanks! Pours a "clear" golden but it is full of floating particles, not sure what they are but they aren’t welcome in my glass. Head is medium and it leaves nice lacing, though. Nose is fruity, peppery and lightly vinous. Taste is fruity and moderately bitter. Medium body, medium-high carbonation. Overall a good but not transcending brew.
3.7 Bottle (750 ml). From Chris, thanks! Split 6-ways. Appearance: Clear golden with a medium white head and some lacing. Aroma: Quite yeasty, there’s still some fruity/apricots notes but I guess it faded a lot, mineral/iron, brettanomyes, herbal and earthy notes. Taste: A bit fruitier than aroma and quite herbal with brett, mineral notes and grains. Palate: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Herbal and mildly fruity finish. Overall: Good easy drinking and true to style Saison, but the barrel treatment, the apricots and the pepper are either really mild or nowhere to be found so I guess this bottle might have been a bit too old. Still tasty, but I would be curious to try a fresh one.
3.6 Bottle. Nice very lightly hazy gold with thick lacy white head. Aroma is mineral, iron, floral, perfumy aroma, light grapes. Taste is earthy, bretty, light grain, peachy. Palate is med bodied with good carbonation. Good beer.
3.9 Pour out of 750 mL bottle, hazy golden-orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of biscuit, bread, touch of yeasty notes into nice spice, pepper into some pear, peach, apricot, touch of oak as well. Taste was a mix of oak, white wine, some orange into some peach, apricot, pear into yeast, spice, peppery notes, finishing slightly dry, slightly sweet. Nice.
3.5 Bottle shared by Adrien, thanks! Pours orange beige with a white head. Aroma is citrus, hay, mild apricot. Flavor is light, wheat cracker, green apple, slight dried apricot. Grassy bitter and oak in the finish. Not really getting the pepper.
3.7 750 bottle hand carried home from the brewery by my buddy Adrien. Hazy orange gold color with a bubbly white head. Aroma is heavy on the white wine, with nice notes of dried apricots. The flavor is extremely well integrated. Mild hay, barnyard, again dried apricots, nice light lingering white wine hints, weak Brett hints. Very nice.
3.4 Slight cloudiness from the yeast, light golden yellow 2 finger tight creamy head. The nose is great. Tart, saison very yeasty, grape skins and very wheat forward. smells a little tart. Pretty yeast, almost no tartness but there is brett funk. some sulfur and faint rotten model tastes but the creaminess and apricot forward funkiness is really nice. I don’t get a lot of wine or oak.
3.8 Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Ariel. Pours hazy yellow with a nice head, aroma of brett, apricot, Saisonish , flavor is slightly sour with peach, brett, medium bodied. Nice
3.8 On tap at 2014 GTMW, pours a hazy golden with a thin head, the aroma has a nice amount of peaches and apricot with some yogurt notes as well, the flavor has some oak and vanilla on the front end with a tart amount of apricots and fruit in the finish, smooth mouthfeel, nice.

Medium-bodied, smooth, soft carbonation and vinous finish. 27.12.2014 7/4/8/3/15=3.7 Bottle sample at a tasting at Shapiro's Brewery, August 2018. Thanks Ory. Clear gold with a big white head. Aromatic apricot leather, apricot popsicle in the nose. Bitter taste and sweet apricot, some alcohol. Medium body,, long, sticky apricot finish. 7/4/8/3/15 = 3.7
3.5 Re-rate 7/18: Bottle sample at a tasting at Shapiro brewery. Thanks Ory. Not as good as last time. 7/3/6/3/13=3.2 Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Ariel. Hazy yellow-golden with a nice white head. Pleasant funky aroma with apricots, white wine, oak and light spiciness. Funky flavor, sweaty, sweetish-sourish, a bit vinous, with oak, lovely fruitiness (lots of apricot), a light alcohol hint and a dry finish. Medium-bodied. Great stuff. 8/4/8/3/16=3.9
3.8 750 ml bottle shared by Chris. Poursa hazy golden color with a medium plus sized white head. The aroma and flavor have a mild but noticeable apricot fruity character, some vinous character, wood, mild peppery notes, very nice beer.
3.7 750ml bottle, big thanks to voodoofish65usf for sharing. Golden orange color. White particles in the body. Thin off-white head, some short ropes of lace. Awesome apricot, mildly peppery nose. Moderate sweet taste, light tart. Light spicy herbalness, good pepper and belgian yeast profile. Pretty nice stuff. Pepper seems to balance out the sweetness. Good balanced stuff.
4.1 Bottle shared at Dave’s Bachelor Party, 9/27/14. Thanks to whoever shared this. I enjoyed this beer quite a bit. The fruity flavors and the barrel aging worked extremely well together. I found the aroma to be the standout component. Really quite an excellent brew.
3.9 Serving: 750 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a hazy copper color with a pillowy white head. The nose starts off with the oaky chardonnay notes and transitions to dried apricot and a touch of pepper. The barrel character shares even space with the yeast and fruit notes on the palate. Nice interplay of flavors here. Light and soft on the tongue with just enough dryness on the back end. A rather tasty beverage.
4.4 First of all, props to Nebraska Brewing for making an extremely sexy Farmhouse Ale. Even by high Saison standards, Apricot Au Poivre is drop-dead bodacious. Aroma is yeasty and fruity - no big surprise there but it’s quite good. Yeast really owns the flavor here. It’s sour (lemon and vinegar sensations), a touch spicy, fruity, and earthy. I like the use of apricot here, it creates a uniquely citrusy flavor and helps to mellow the big yeasty tastes. While I’ve had heavily yeast-focused beers that I’ve liked more (Belgian brews and Boulevard’s Tank 7), Apricot Au Poivre is undoubtedly among the best of Nebraska’s beers - I mean the state as a whole, not just the brewery. The name can make things confusing.
3.1 Bottle. A- Funk, apricots, peaches, chlorine, white wine. A- Orange color, cloudy body, white head. T- Funky, brett, white wine, subtle woodiness, apricots. P- Medium body, average texture, medium carbonation, funky finish. O- My 500th rating. Had to make it a local Nebraska brew and one of the best beers from Nebraska according to statistics. I was excited to pop this one open and get to drinking. Overall, it left me pleased but not overly excited. The pepper and spice was so subtle it was hardly noticeable. Nothing other than the funk and some apricot flavor stood out. Just didn’t live up to the expectations I had, especially for over $20 a bomber. I’d still like to try the Black Betty though.
4.1 Bottle, shared with Ferris and Parksy. Very hazy orange-kissed gold with some fine particles toward the end. Nice head retention. Lightly funky, notes of hay and apricot, with lovely wood and peppercorn notes in the finish. Elegant and interesting.
3.9 Bottle - Funky stone fruit and lots of tropical fruit. Cloudy and particulate orange with a white head. Peppery, grass and stone fruit. Dry finish and effervescent. Really nice.
3.5 Poured from bottle to glass. Hazy golden hue with fizzy white head. Aroma is straw, lactic, apricot, peppercorn, funk. Mouthfeel is great with a medium light body and sharp carbonation. Taste is dry throughout with a nice tannic finish. Overall this is a good brew.
3.6 From a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is rather fruity with some nice apricot character. Light notes of other stone fruit notes as well as some grain character. Pours a hazy, pale, golden orange with a small, thick white head that exhibits nice retention. Moderate lacing and medium sized legs. Flavor has some light grain notes with medium light apricot character. Light bitterness with a drying finish. Hints of other stone fruit and medium light phenolic character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a rather nice beer but the flavor lacks the complexity and slightly citrus character that I prefer in most fruit saisons. A touch on the harsh and astringent side overall.
