Nebraska Reserve Series Mélange à Trois

Nebraska Reserve Series Mélange à Trois

Our first beer produced in the Reserve Series, Melange A Trois begins with a wonderfully big Strong Belgian-Style Blonde Ale and moves into the extraordinary category through an additional 6 month French Oak Chardonnay Wine Barrel maturation. The essence of Chardonnay permeates while a subtle sweetness remains from the Ale itself. Oak tannins combine to create a fascinating mesh of dry, sweet, and wine-like character. One of our favorites!

4.3 KYGGE 220918 shared by Bergstaden. Golden-orange color with a white head. Aroma is sourness, mango, papaya, malt. Flavor is sourness, mango, papaya, malt, fruit, wood, vinous, tropical fruits. Pleasent and delicious beer.
4.0 Bottle, 75cl, shared by Bergstaden. It's an unclear orange colored beer with a finger-thick white head leaving the sexiest lacing. The aroma is fruity and lightly woody, with a vinous touch, some canned tropical fruits and a woody hint, some grass chiming in. The flavor too is mostly on the fruity side, with woody, tannin hints, tropical fruits and some pale malts. Rather vinous, white wine that is. Full body, with a pleasant carbonation and some warmth. Lasting fruity, white wine-ish finish. A smooth, delicious and tasteful one. 180922
3.9 750 ml bottle poured into a big tulip glass. The beer is a moderately hazy gold with a big head of white foam. Good head retention. The aroma has pineapple and dry white wine notes. Big notes of vanilla with subtle peppercorn notes round out the finish. Peppery notes linger on the back of the tongue creating a bit of a burn. Big body. Moderate carbonation.
3.9 A recent acquisition from a craft beer supplier in a nearby town, I am ready to sample the 750 ml bottle. It gets poured into my New Belgium tulip glass leaving a hazy, dark yellow body and a heroic, steadily replenished, almost pure white top. Great lacing I find later. Taking a sniff of it I detect yellow raisin and a little floral effect. The progression, a drink now. Yeast, yellow fruit, a bit of biscuit and a slightly boozy quality, is that from the wine barrel? A bit bitter, a bit sweet, not bad. Well worth the effort to obtain.
3.6 750ml bottle. Cloudy yellow pour with a big fluffy head of soapy foam. Sticky. Dry. Lemony. Oaky. Some sweetness in the finish balances a otherwise super dry beer.
3.7 Banana and pear nose. Cloudy amber, huge head, nice lace. White grape, oak. Full body, moderate carbonation, warm.
3.7 Bittersweet citrus fruits, orange, orange peel, marmalade, sweet grain malts, molasses, Belgian yeast. Hazy gold, small, creamy, white head. Light bitter. More Belgian yeast, citrus fruits, yeast, grain malts, soft carbonation, sour and bitter orange peel, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Decent Belgian Ale. Bottle at GABF17, Denver.
4.0 Bottle from the GBBF, consumed at Scott and Mandy’s, Dumbleton, Saturday 26th August 2017 Hazy, murky dirty gold gold with a white head. Plenty of warmth, steady warmth, some sweetness, oak ageing really shows, quite a good tanginess. Like it, we both love it. A7 A4 T9 P4 Ov16 4.0
4.0 Great surprise. A hazy orange beer with a tall white head. Aroma is fruity with Brett notes. Taste is sweet and malty, lots of funkiness. Very interesting beer
4.4 Attractive cloudy orange yellow bodybwith a pillowy white dense head. Wine like aroma of tart grape, biscuit, oak. Excellent flavor reminiscent of Avec les bons. Dry finish. Really solid beer and a good purchase whilst on vacation in Missouri.
3.5 Hazy golden pour with a fluffy single finger head. Tons of lace present. Aroma of chardonnay, big time wine notes. Medium bodied. Taste has a lot of wine notes, chardonnay specifically. Really feels like a wine beer. Hard to distinguish where the wine starts and the beer ends. Finish has some bubblegum like qualities. Belgian yeast strain for sure. A bit of a solvent or higher alcohol note in the finish.
3.7 Opaque gold with a white head. Belgian yeast aroma with earthiness. Flavor is wheat malt or character like such from the yeast. Full flavor but medium body. Quite good.
4.0 Aroma: bready with some chardonnay notes; Appearance: cloudy golden pour with creamy white head that lingers; Taste: several layers of taste including chardonnay, fruitiness, oakiness, belgian spice, etc. Palate: medium body with long, oaky finish; Overall: delicious and complex; would definitely buy again.
3.9 Shared 25.4 oz. bottle. Pours a murky golden color with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of fruit, yeast, honey and white wine. Taste is fruit, pear, yeast, honey, Chardonnay and oak. Very good.
3.7 Damn, what’s it been, two or three years since I had a threesome? I gotta work on that. Fruit, bread and yeast with lots of tannins. Better than most wine barrel finished beers I’ve had.
4.2 750 ml. Hazy golden-amber body has some nice bubble activity that holds up a half inch of billowy foam. Really nice looking beer. Nose is a pleasing blend of orange, honey, pear, earthy spicy yeast and white wine. Flavor is the same mix with some oak in the finish. Medium-plus body has smooth medium-plus carbonation and a nice balance. Just a touch of the big abv comes though. I believe they’ve tweaked the original recipe in a good way with a bit of dark malt and/or candi sugar.
3.4 Pours a bright yellow -orange with white head a visible sediment. A citrus, spices, and yeast. A sweet taste of fruit malts, citrus, yeast, wheat, spices, and white wine. A sweet malt and yeast aftertaste.
4.6 On draught. Pours a hazy orange amber, with a moderate white head that lasts. Nose is Belgian yeast and banana. Taste starts like a classic Belgian strong ale, but finishes quite dry, with a wine taste. You can really taste the oak. Very nice.
4.2 appearance: clear bright gold, creamy white head, even some lacing. aroma: honey smacks and golden grahams, with lemon, vanilla, grass, pepper, apple skins, and kiwi. taste: sweet, slightly grainy, with floral honey and general cereal character; there’s some white wine notes (more like a hint of apple cider vinegar), with some woody notes too. finish: slight bit of alcohol heat, with lingering yeasty esters, some sweetness, and a bit of white wine echo. notes: Alcohol was incredibly well-hidden. Strong, but incredibly flavorful with a deceptive palate. 750 from the Rare Beer Club.
3.9 Hazy golden, moderate head, good lace/retention. Aroma is pepper, yeast, fairly fruit, like wine barrel. Medium bodied, peppery, fruity, yeasty - tasty. Grossly overpriced at $25/bottle but really nice stuff.
3.8 light golden amber, malty some dried orange, very estry buscuity, dried apricot, like a wheat wine amazing depth. Light body. Fucked up. Really good
3.9 750, capped (I think). Thanks so much, E! What an awesome treat. Pours a cloudy medium gold with a loose but lasting off-white head. Sweet grain nose, plenty of white wine, a bit of oak, some light lemon and tiny hint of wet grass. Creamy medium body with moderate carb. White wine, bit of light lemon, sweet grain, and tiny hint of wet grass way in the background on the mid palate. Mild slightly tangy finish.
3.6 750ml bottle shared by Chris D. Poured a clear bright sunlight yellow gold with a smaller to average sized bright white head. Aroma of spice, bubble gum, pepper, rotting citrus, odd fruit. Flavor is the same, very yeasty. Body is medium to fuller, average carbonation that lasts and a lingering aftertaste.
4.2 Poured from a bottle. Hazy straw color, medium frothy white head. Nice sweet all spice aroma. Medium body with a nice sweet flavor and a medium finish.
3.9 Aroma of cloves with a hint of citrus. Pours a cloudy peach color with a lasting white head. Taste of cloves, and citrus. Medium body with a lasting clove finish.
4.2 Tap at Brix, west Omaha location. Pours golden with a off white head. Aroma was fruits, orange. Taste was sweet, orange and citrus. Nice one.
4.5 Half a year of chardonnay barrel aging has given has given Melange a Trois a vinous and slightly earthy note. Yeast notes are bright with fruit esters and bread sweetness. Flavors have some spice and a hint of tropical hops. This would be a lovely Belgian Ale for a meal. It’s big enough and complex enough to stand up to rich dishes and compliment bold flavors. Or, in the true spirit of the Melange a Trois, perhaps this beer would be best enjoyed in the post-coital afterglow with two attractive companions.
3.5 Draft/Fest. A- Banana, citrus, wheat. A- Yellow color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Banana, creamsicle. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, flavorful finish. O- Like a fruity ice cream. Good flavors and not over complicated.
3.7 19 Jan 2016, bottle. hazy yellow. nose is faintly tart, some lemon rind, sweet, floral. thin/med body and mildly fizzy. belgian ale yeast and alcohol but not too big. sweet, earthy, some yeast. can’t say i notice much of the barrel aging but perhaps that is what tames this from the typical big alcohol in the belgian strong ale. nice.
3.7 On tap. Comes a somewhat cloudy gold with a nice white head. Aroma of fruit, spice, and yeast. Taste is grapes, yeast, spice, malt, and some oak. Very nice.
