Neustadt Springs 10w30

Awarded a Silver Medal in the Beer World Cup (English style brown ale) 2004,

also a Silver Medal in the 2004 Canadian Awards and a Gold medal at the Mondial in Montreal 2008.

A traditional dark English Mild. The term mild meaning “not bitter” does not refer to strength. Using pure natural spring water, New Zealand hops and imported specialty malts. Giving rich malt and light nut aromas and mellow malt and good hop notes to the palate. A smooth and easy drinkable ale.

Perfectly partnered with beef, steaks, stews, goulash or kebabs.

2.7 Can. Bubblegum aroma dominates with some chocolate and red fruit. Very dark ruddy chestnut and clear with a tawny ring. Very nutty flavour that is estery and slightly oxidized. Medium light body, medium carbonation, nutty finish.
3.0 Can from the LCBO. Pours a deep cola brown with a generous beige head that leaves some lace. Aroma is chocolate and plums and caramel with alhohol in the finish. Medium sweetness with not much trace of bitterness. With a name like 10w30 I was expecting something oily and thick but it turns out to be light and watery with average carbonation.
3.0 473ml can. Pours a dark ruby brown with a solid beige head. Aroma is chocolate and caramel, but very light. Flavour is more of the chocolate and slight sweetness and malt. Body is medium to heavy. Finish is malty and slightly bitter.
3.3 473 mL can. Pours a rich dark reddish brown as the name suggests with a nice beige cap of head. Aromas of toffee, nuts, brown malt, licorice, dark bread and a touch of hop spice. Mildly sweet with minimal hop bitterness and only a hint of aromatics. Medium bodied with medium carbonation and a malty finish. Well made, nothing outstanding.
3.2 2013/07/17 - Pours a dark brown amber colour with a foamy, tan head that reduces quickly. Aroma is molasses, spices, coffee and toasted malts. Taste is sweet molasses, and cocoa up front with a slightly bitter, burnt malt finish. Mouthfeel is medium, with medium carbonation and a drying finish. OK, not great.
3.5 This Ale poured a deep, dark red color with a nice big light brown head. Nice lacing. The nose has scents of thick dark malt, molasses, caramel and roasted grain. Maybe a little chocolate? First taste was rich but had an almost watery base. Roasty malt flavor with hints of coffee, molassass and cocoa. The finish is burnt in flavor with a little hopp shining through. Palate starts off burnt and conintues through to a little tinge of bitter flavor. Nice complex brew, thats easy to drink. -Fish!
3.9 Appearance: mahogany brown with nice ruby highlights, decent beige head. Aroma: lovely toasty notes of nuts and biscuit, very malty with some chocolate/coffee roastiness. Flavour: nutty, malty, pumpernickel, toffee, and some raisins. Well balanced with some restrained hop bitterness to take the edge off the malt profile. Mouthfeel: smooth and medium full bodied, moderate carbonation, semi-sweet finish Overall: delicious dark ale, would pair well with any red meat, stews, or sticky toffee pudding.
3.3 Really nice malty aroma, good dark ale notes. Starts off a bit of caramel, then a little roasty. It’s a dark brown, little head with little lacing. Some initial sweetness in the taste, followed by bitter. Pretty good! I have had this on tap and enjoyed it more, but from the can it’s OK too. Palate is a little light, but a decent long finish. Overall, a good beer and glad to have it.
3.4 Surprise this brew is not rated higher. To be honest, I am not a fan of the name because this is a great, easy drinking beer... The name however sounds a bit harsh.
3.1 This one grows on you, the start is kind of bland but the flavour and balance are great. On the lighter side body wise and aroma, but a genuine malty ale that pleases and is not trying to be more.
3.0 Draught at C’est What, Toronto Dark amber color, brown, clean, with red shades. The caramel aroma is mild and a bit dusty. Some caramel flavor, a bit breadish, with light earthy touch, and very light puke; some roasted nuts; correct bitterness. Nutty Brown Ale, pleasant, simple.
2.9 very dark body with frothy beige head. alcohol / molasses nose. flavor of caramelized malt, chocolate, nuts. full, rich mouthfeel.
3.5 Bottle. Deep brown in colour with good amounts of frothy beige head. Big roast aroma with some chocolate, toffee and grains. Generally hearty taste was a little sweet, a little sour with strong alcohol flavour. Some hopiness at the end. Full-bodied, thick, creamy and somewhat oily. I might have rated it higher if I had been drinking it in the winter.
4.4 April 27 2012. 473ml can pours dark mahogany brown with tight white head. Dark brown colour is fantastic; like 10w30, beautiful for english style dark ale. Lacing is ok for the little cap and has longevity. Aroma is sweet malt and strong hops. Taste is strong sweet malt off the top followed by a multiple of grains and oats giving it a complex combination that not only balances well but tastes fantastic. Hopsy finish but just enough to balance beer. Not too sweet or bitter, or too anything -- just right! A favorite for sure!
3.9 I’m surprised this isn’t rated much higher... I think it’s sweeter than standard for the style, but for me it was fantastic. Not cloying at all. Sweet, bitter, sour and spice playing dodgeball in your mouth, who will win? Your throat decides. This is what good beer is all about to me, closing your eyes and mulling over whatever you can pick out. The brewery should be proud of this one, can’t wait to try their other stuff next time I’m in Ontari-ari-o.
4.1 500ml can. Beautiful ruby brown concoction poured into pint glass (Lovibond 27). Smells sweet, but I can't put my finger on it. Powerful flavours; hope you like a strong tasting beer! I sure do. This is REALLY malty/grainy. Sweet initial burst, surrendering to bitter hoppy heaven (not too overstated to kill the joyous sweetness). This is a very interesting brew!
2.8 Can. Pour is dark brown/amber. Coffee and dark chocolate, caramel, hint of grass. Quite sweet and a little syrupy, finishes with grassy sourness and a bit metallic. Not offensive really, but the balance isn’t good. And too sweet.
2.9 A little bit of sweet malt, a little sugar and a nutty bitter finish. Pours dark mahogany. Smell doesn’t have a lot of character - really isn’t much there. On tap beerbistro
2.7 Decent head and brown-amber body. Nutty malt aroma, slightly sharp thanks to some hops. Flavour is a lot of nuttiness, smooth but weak mouthfeel. Kind of a lame attempt at this type of beer.
3.5 Havn’t had this in a while and picked up a can at the LCBO. Was delicious, and the price was great for what you get. Too bad I only got one can....
3.1 Poured from a 473 ml can from the LCBO; dark burgundy brown colour with small tan head and some lacing; Aroma is roasted malt, caramel  and slight hop bitter. Flavor is slightly sweet malts, molasses, and very little hop bitter, medium body with slightly astringent aftertaste.
3.2 Can. It’s ok. Good roasted nut, some light coffee up front, and maybe even a hint of hop bitterness in the finish. Pours a lightish coffee colour with little to no head after a few seconds.
3.2 Bottle in Toronto. A decent brown ale. Faintly sweet, brown colour, very malty.
3.1 Tasted at Beerbistro, Toronto on 9 July 2011. Reddish brown color, light tan foamy head, mild coffe-chocolate flavor, mild carbonation, abrupt finish. Nice one.
2.7 Clear dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet malty and caramel. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Dry and light bitter finish. 170811
3.4 473ml can. Pours a deep dark brown colour. Yeasty aroma. Taste was dark caramel and a little bit of the yeast. Overall, I found it very tasty.
3.6 Originally rated June 2006. Bought this one on my trip to Toronto, as we cannot get this one in the Ottawa LCBOs. First tried the night Detroit got eliminated, and the Ducks went on to the Cup. Was in my hotel room, and found it nicely bitter from the bottle. Now, back home. And with a proper glass. Pours a brown colour with red highlights. Its head is tanned, creamy, with nice retention and beautiful lacing all around. Moderate carbonation. The nose is very malty with grain, and after breathing a bit, dark fruit and nuts stand out. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel, a little oily as the name refers to. The nutty dark fruit is present in the taste, with a clean bitter finish, but not too long. Some caramel notes too appear. Pretty decent beer, and a good one as my first Neustadt Springs Brewery experience.
3.2 Canette 473ml.
3.0 Decent beer, nothing amazing but it pour nice dark brown colour. it had a decent sized head and it had a very yeast aroma. it tasted a yeast as well with a light hint of dark roasty malts in the finish.Overall decent offering
3.5 Cannette 473 ml. 5.5%. Couleur brune rougeâtre, mousse épaisse et crémeuse beige. Arômes de malt et noisettes. En bouche, douce et plein de caramel, malt, houblon. Finale un peu amère et un peu de sucre. Très bonne.
