3.9 Pours a dark brown. Smells of malts and chocolate. Tastes smokey and of sweet berries. Has a coffee bitterness as an aftertaste.
2.9 Pours stark black with a 5cm dense, frothy beige head. Toasty malt aroma with that German character... reminds me of wheat malt. Flavor is unfortunately a little sweet so not inline with a Baltic as claimed. At least the finish is more toasty than sweet, but still sweet. At any rate its smooth and drinkable at least the first 25 cl.
3.2 Bottle. Pours clear dark brown with airy light tan head. Clear aroma of roast and malt, with touches of caramel and metal. Roasty and malty flavour, with sweetish caramel notes and touches of coffee. High carbonation, perhaps too high for a beer in this style. Mildly salty finish, with touches of liquorice. Not bad.
4.3 Very dark brown almost black with a bubbly, lasting, tan, oily, no lacy head. Smells of liquorish, cherry with deep malt, roast and caramel. Full oily body with soft carbonation. Tastes of liquorish and cherry/berry and roast with a bitter coffee roast finish. A smooth oily black marvel.
3.3 Von Anfang bis zum Ende haben wir wieder ein feines Porter. Etwas Kaffee, leichte Säure, bißchen was vpn Früchten und ein kerniger Abschluss. Wonderful.
3.2 POurs out in a deep black colour with steady creamy head and smooth body. Nose of malt and nuts. Taste of malt, dark bread, plums, chocolate, berries, roast and leaves. Hints of brown sugar. Easy and nice Porter, drinkable and very decent, yet nothing really special.
3.1 A roasted aroma. Flavor is roasted coffee with notes of caramel and some bitterness. color is very dark brown with a white head.
4.0 Dyp svart farve med lite beige skum. Lukt av god frukt, malt, sjokolade og kaffe. Smak av malt, karamell, sjokolade, frukt og kaffe. Cardinal.
4.6 Znakomity baltycki porter. Pelen smaku i tresci. Troche przyciezkawy, niesamowicie gesty i czarny. Piana wielka i kremowa. Palona owocowosc. piernik i wytrawny finisz.
Mild for sine 7,2%. "Paradiesisch, kräftig, himmlisch gut" iflg bryggeriet er vel å ta litt hardt i, men en meget bra porter uansett hva markedsføringsguruene får seg til å si.
3.7 0,5 l bottle shared at Cardinal. Dark mahogany colored body with a large light brown head leaving excellent lacing. Roasted notes and cherry compot on the nose. Smooth prune compot and mellow bitterness. Alcohol is barely noticable in the flavor but no alco warmth. Medium body.
1.9 Rather disappointing. Perhaps a Baltic Porter, but far from being an exemplar or even a good one. Just chars, roasts on the flavour and aroma, chocolates, dust, no character, very much an ordinary Schwarzbier. It’s somehow understandable that old German (Baltic) Porters are have developed their own sweet, mellow, syrupy character, but an up-to-date brewery such as Neuzeller could have made a difference and a better statement.
2.9 500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.2%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Large and lasting beige head. Sourish, mildly roasty, woody and "dusty" aroma, hints of over-ripe berries. The flavour is somewhat better than the aroma, roasty flavour with notes of coffee and chocolate, some malty and "berry" sweetness, moderately bitter finish.
3.5 Bottle:As black as ink, loose mid-sized tanned head, that slowly collapses; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied and pretty soft; ashes and bitter chocolate in the auite dry nose; lingering bitter-roasty finish. Wow! An unexpected highlight from Neuzelle…
3.2 From old backlog. Deep black colour with big beige head. Aroma is roasted, caramel. Flavour is sweet malt.
3.0 Dark brown color, medium beige head. Aroma: burnt finish, coffee, liquorice, surprising sweetness compared to high alcohol content.
3.8 50cl bottle from Bierpost.de, pours a black-brown with a big tan head, settling to a lacy crema. Nose is roast malt, a little plum and cherry, and some demerara, plate is creamy and initially sweetish with treacle-toffee notes and just a touch of coffee, then turning drier and burnt-bitter with a slight tart tang and a little treacle returning in the finish. Yummy.
3.1 (Bottle) Pours dark brown with a red glow. The aroma is caramelly, bready and light roasted with notes of chocolate and coffee. Grassy hops. The flavour is sweet with notes of caramelly and bready malt alongside grassy and herbal hops. The mouthfeel is fat and soft. Medium bodied.
3.2 500ml bottle. Pours a dark brown, with a brown head. Roasted aromas, chocolate, coffee beans, faint smoke, hops, caramel. Semi-sweet, full bodied, medium bitterness, creamy CO2. Malty, toasted taste, chocolate, coffee, butterscotch, hops, ashes, some astringency from the roasted malt. (2012-03-01)
3.4 Bottle. Jet black with a tan head. Aroma of roast malt and brown sugar. Flavour starts off quite smoky but eases down to a creamy sweet malt with a dry roast finish
3.8 Bottle. Nice creamy tan head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are rich licorice, roast malt, caramel, chocolate and hops. Great beer. I love licorice.
3.7 Tasting @ Home with J&C, October 2011. Clear black with very nice and rich brown head. Lovely yet not so intense roasty malt aroma. Medium to full body, balanced taste, sweet and raosted matls, coffee, caramel , ash. Not the typical porter you can find in Germany and quite a nice yet unexpected surprise from this brewer.
3.7 Bottle at home. Pours very dark brown with a creamy dense mushroom coloured head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, tobacco, dried dark fruit and some cocoa. Good malty flavour with some smoke and tobacco notes. Leather and light chocolate notes. Full bodied. Nice one!
3.7 Bottle @L’assassina, Göteborg, in courtesy of Bengt the importer. A firm choco head on near black body. Sweet dark malts and sour bread to the nose. Rounded roasted malt flavor. Sweet without being harsh or cloying. Bread and coffee tones and a fine spicy caramel character. Soft on the palate. Healthy body. Balanced malty, light fruity, lightly caramelly finish. Drinks very good. Nice one!
3.0 Black body with thin brown head. Smoke in aroma and taste. Sweet beer with some caramel.
3.8 Bottle from Quack-duck thanks a lot, a dark beer with good creamy off white head. Nose is fantastic on roasted and chocolate notes. Aroma is malty, grainy, cereal like, brown bread, roasted, toasted, sweet, nice body, a very nice porter. Not acrid, easily drinkable, a nice one.
3.4 bottle from Bierpost. Deep black colour, large brown head, very creamy. Aroma of caramel and chocolate. Lots of roasetd malts, chocolate, shy hints of coffee, hints of fudge. Full-bodied and pleasantly malty sweet. Good!
3.4 Bottle in Andra Langgatan 32, Gøteborg, courtesy of Bengt. Pours almost pitch black with a big off-white head. Sweet malty and light roasted aroma. Taste is smooth, moderate sweet with a good creamy mouthfeel.Very light bitterness with a clear note of some smoked malts. Not bad.
3.6 Bottle that Craig passed onto me consumed 29th October 2011, cheers Craig! Initially this is quite smoky in the mouth but then it subsides. There is liquorice, some milky coffee, it is a little sweet, some warmth, and a dark fruit tang at the end. Very nice. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6
