The story of New Belgium begins with an abbey: Not only were Belgium’s monastic beers the inspiration behind our Colorado brewery, but Abbey, a Belgian-style dubbel, was one of the first beers we released way back in 1991. Since then, it’s become our most award-winning offering. This garnet brown hued Belgian-style dubbel is strong on character and rich in flavor. Seven malts, including caramel Munich and chocolate, and a definitive Belgian yeast, waft off sweet, spicy aromas. Rich tones of chocolate and dark caramel mix with nuanced dried cherries, burnt sugar and figs. Sweet and roasty upfront, followed by a slightly bitter finish, Abbey is a lovely representation of the monastic beers of Belgium. Sip Abbey, and sip New Belgium’s tradition.

3.6Found on tap at brewery in Asheville. Love the off brown blackish color. Really well put together beer with a variety of flavors that all have their individual moments. Great mid-fall to winter beer.
4.012 ounce bottle. Deep garnet color. Small foamy beige head. Rich, earthy toasted malt nose hints at toffee and dark dried fruits. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor. More dark dried fruits and toffee. Some yeasty notes as well. Warming alcohol along with a dry, black pepper nuance in finish. A delicious example of a Belgian style Dubbel.
Sensation : Corps moyen, longueur moyenne, effervescence appropriée.
3.5Bottle at Denver airport. Sort of surprising I'd never tried this before. Not a bad dubbel. Rich, not too boozy. Decent.
3.4Aroma: Bottle - yeast fruity esters Caramel malty. There is a slight sweetness grim the malts, notes of corn, and yeast on the nose. A slight note of esters not distinguishing the smell but is lightly fruity. Not picking up any hops.
Appearance: Dark brown to dark auburn in color with clear body. The head is medium with good retention and rocky in appearance. The head color is caramel.
Flavor: strong malty flavor with a strong corny flavor present throughout. Toasted malts also present with a touch if rusted malts communicating light smoke in the finish. Not tasting hops in the flavor nor any lingering bitterness in the finish. Balance of beer is malty.
Not detecting any noticeable astringency
Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy body, with a medium carbonation. A medium alcohol warming
Overall: A very good beer but i am not sure the corn is correct for the style. I think the malt flavor is strong but balances the sweetness of the malts with overall flavor if the beer.

After band practice while A had girls night w/ Sara & Ada.
Dark red-brown with a fluffy head.
Aroma is esters and dark/candied fruit. Raisins cloves & apricots.
Taste is initially sweet with yeast/cloves/esters up front. The fruitiness is still there along with some earthy notes. Sweetness gives way to spicy bitterness.
Medium sticky body. Both sweetness and the spicy bitterness linger.
Overall, this is really nice! Dark and rich with plenty to contemplate while keeping a high drinkability. Only the second I've had of this style but I really like it!

With A celebrating due date and just hanging out.
Nose is warm Belgian yeast & dark fruit.
Taste is deep & warm with lots of clovey-yeast and more stone fruit. Med sweet with a dry-ish finish.
Palate is fluffy with very good carbonation and leaves A dry yeasty finish.
Overall, amazing dee m, warm dubbel. Even better than I remembered!!

4.6We had this bottle at home that we purchased at the grocery store it was a good Belgian style double not as much alcohol or carbonation. 2018
3.8Pours into a tulip glass a dark auburn hue, with tiny sparsely spread bubbles. Aroma is subtle, tangy and yeasty. Flavor is bready and sweet, with a finish that has elements of walnuts and truffles. A surprisingly excellent Dubbel, reminds one that this brewery still makes unique and delicious beers... cheers New Belgium!
3.2Deep ruddy-brown pour. fruity aroma, flavor of peach, cherry, caramel, candied sugar. Very sweet.
3.6Bottle, Ann Arbor, MI. Medium brown. Almost burnt caramel aroma. Sweet, brown sugar, then some sharp spice and long oak and caramel finish.
4.0Didn't even make it to a pour. After a day of cooking and cleaning we are now waiting on in-laws. Not bad with a bit of an after taste.
2.7Pours a brown with a red glow. Ok lacing and white head. Smells of malt and dark fruit. Flavor is dry with malts, fruit, and hints of chocolate and banana. Aftertaste is not great.
2.9Pours a clear medium caramel brown with an off white ring. Medium body with some lacing. Aroma of sweet dark fruit and light Belgian spices. Tastes more like a Scotch ale with a dry peat moss earthy flavor than an Abbey. Not really that enjoyable.
3.8Rich creamy head. Malty, chocolate. Tasted of raisins , fruit . Very smooth, drinkable.
3.612 oz bottle into a La Chouffe stemmed tulip on 31st Dec 2017 at my daughters in California. Deep brown body, tanned affair on top. Malts rule the brew with the nose being slightly chocolate like, the taste also leaning towards a chocolate flavour. Decent and very like the Abbey Dubbels I drink when in Brugge.
3.8True to style and delicious. Dark, color, and dark fruit, and satisfaction awaits, filling, satisfying, rich. Of course I like the style and this sticks to it.
3.6Rating #2747 2016.08.05 - Draught @revolutionyyc. Dark brown/amber colour with a tan head. Aroma is soft fruits, ripened berry. raisin. Taste is light, grainy and sweet fruits. Quite pleasantly spiced and extremely smooth on the finish. Dark, lighter body and quite nice.
4.6Winner of four World Beer Cup medals and eight medals at the Great American Beer Fest, Abbey Belgian Ale is the Mark Spitz of New Belgium’s lineup - but it didn’t start out that way. When Jeff and Kim first sampled the beer at the Lyons Folks Fest, reviews were mixed at best. One of founder Jeff’s first two Belgian style homebrews (along with Fat Tire), Abbey is a Belgian dubbel (or double) brewed with six different malts and an authentic Belgian yeast strain. Abbey is bottle-conditioned, weighs in at 7.0% alcohol by volume, and pairs well with chocolate (or boldly served by itself) for dessert.
3.412oz bottle best by 21OCT18 from the "blend it yourself" variety pack. This will be my 2nd Abbey of the year. nose is leafy chocolate with mild candi. Sip adds the more conventional flavors for the style. sweet-ish. mellow banana. kinda flat.
3.6Dark brown pour with a nice and thick rocky head. Aroma is of caramel and banana. Flavor is sugary, with some chocolate and banana notes. Nice creamy body. Pretty good!
3.2Good attempt at a Belgium dubbel. Not much in the way of aroma, slight coffee note. Good color and palate. Overall average Dubbel

4.0Appearance: a thin tan heads drops slowly with some mild lacing. Color is deep reddish brown. Aroma of malt, fruit, and spices. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy. Flavors of caramel malt, spice and some earthy hops. Overall an enjoyable Dubbel.

12 ounce bottle poured to tulip glass
Sight: pours dark reddish brown, dark amber, clear, small tan foam
Smell: fragrant aroma of grains
Taste: very good, well balance, low bitterness, sweet, complex flavor, a bit light
Fell: very good, slightly carbonated, good follow through and finish
Overall: very good beer, ok to repeat
3.7PAr for style. Toasty finish. A little burnt tasting on the back end but light chochlate notes blend nicely.
4.012-ounce bottle pours clear deep burgundy with a spritz of tan head and lacing. Aroma: brown sugar, cherries, dark dried fruits. Flavor: dates, figs, cherries, plums, caramelized brown sugar, hazelnuts. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied, creamy, yet with a dry finish.
3.7From Dec 2005
Poured from bottle(room temp) a deep amber gold with a very small head that dissipated slowly leaving a fine solid layerand lots of nice lacing.
The smell is very fruity with notes of banana, plum, and a clove aroma as well. Very inviting!
The taste is a wonderful blend of the notes I mentioned in the smell all working together with sweet malt and a nice yeasty infusion that makes it so darn drinkable.
This is a very nice Belgian style dubbel that I can thoroughly recommend!
3.3A nice double. Strong Belgian yeast notes. Very malty and sweet. Notes of Carmel and banana. A light touch of hops in the finish.
