For our new Fat Tire & Friends CollaBEERation Pack, we teamed up with Avery Brewing from Boulder, Colo.
Go wild for Fat. Thanks to Boulder’s finest for this unabashedly tropic take on Fat Tire. Avery took a healthy dose of Brettanomyces Bruxellensis Drie to create a Fat Tire spin with a sturdy malt backbone, fruity hop aroma and a tropical pineapple layer. Heed the call of the wild Fat Tire.

3.612 ounce bottle, 6/26/16. Clear copper, moderate foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of brett, toasted malt, bubblegum and a hint of mint. The taste is toasted malt, brett, herbal notes, mild pineapple and bubblegum. Medium bodied, mild carbonation.
3.8Pours up a gold amber color, with off white head and lace. Aroma is malty, some grains. Medium carbonation and mouth feel. Flavors of strong grains, mild amber malts. Overall flavorful, refreshing, drinkable.
3.3Funk-free, slightly tangy, with a huge toasted/biscuit malt front and a piney finish. Thought Avery would do something a little more daring with this collaboration.
3.3pours golden with a white head. Aroma of fruit, sour and funky. Taste is yeast and funk.
3.112 oz bottle poured into Stella "chalice": Clear caramel brown with thin white head, leaves sticky lace. Aromas of funky apricot, honey, toast. The flavor follows, not real sour, but toasty with gentle sour finish. Different.
3.4[Draught at Beer Culture, NYC, Sep. 23] Pours a nice-looking clear golden-orange with an average size long-lasting frothy white head. Some lacing. Interesting aroma, it’s quite fruity and not very funky or sour. There’s also a touch of herbs, bready notes and a medecine-like quality to it. Slightly odd fruity, candy-ish flavour. Medium bodied. It’s good but not what I would call a "Wild Ale" at all.
3.8Brown with thin white head. Slight nutty note with some baked apple. Taste is the same, with a nice bretty pineapple. Glad I aged some a bit, it’s better after BBD.
4.0Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home prior to nervously watching game 5 of the NLCS. Appearance is caramel brown with a robust frothy off white head. Aroma of caramel malt and tropical fruit. Taste is like Fat Tire with pineapple juice, didn’t think that would sound good, but it tastes pretty damn good. Very unique sweet and sour mixture. Pretty good stuff.
3.7Pours clear coppery brown with a thick pale buff head. Aroma features tropical fruit, fresh malt, woody hops, and a pinch of yeast. Flavor adds a little complexity to the fruit character, as in some apple, and provides an earthy underpinning, though the yeast seems to have gone AWOL. Body has decent firmness, and fizz is OK. Get fat and wild!
4.5Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a dark brown color with some reddish amber highlights. There is a small of-off white head. The aroma is malt driven. The taste is very malty with a smooth finish. An excellent beer.
3.5Bottle. Smells like earth, doughy malt, and light fruit. Tastes like earth, doughy malt, light fruit, straw, and brett. Medium body and carbonation.
3.4Bottle from collab pack. Pours amber. Aroma and flavor are earthy brett funk, toasted and bready malts, and some faint citrus hop notes. Medium body.
2.6Amber orange in color. Very little head. Light fruity aroma and very faint fruity taste. Overall not a bad tasting beer, but not what I was expecting with this collaboration.

3.7Bottle poured into a tulip glass. The beer is a clear amber with a white head of foam. The beer is a malty sweet beer, with some dry, floral funk to it. Not overly sour, just some low levels of funk that come through. Medium body and medium carbonation.
3.3Draft to taster at Ei8ht Ball in a flight with the rest from notes. Pours a clear dark amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have Juicy Fruit gum above all else, pineapple, caramel, grass, light funk, I don’t think this is what they were going for.
3.4Picked up single 12-oz bottle from Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, Minnesota. Pours a semi-clear golden orange colored brew with a thick light beige head that has some good retention and lacing. Aroma of tart fruit, a little pipe tobacco, caramel malt and a touch of tropical fruit. Taste is medium bodied, more sweet fruit note than sour. Flavors of both tropical and hard pitted dark fruits, caramel malts and some light yeast. Finish is semi-sweet, some little bread yeast and sweet tropical fruit aftertaste.
3.4Pours brown with an off-white, brownish tinted head. Aroma is earthy, bready and pineapple. Taste is tangy sweet with light tartness. Medium bodied with some stickiness that drys out on the finish.
3.3bottle. Amber with one finger head. I was looking forward to this one the most in the series. Not sure what I was expecting, but this wasn’t it… Caramel and mild fruity notes. I don’t catch any signs of Brett in either the nose or the palate. Just a slightly fruity Fat Tire. Underwhelming. Reviews seem to be hit and miss on this one.
4.2Aroma is interesting with fruit, tobacco, yeast, malt. Flavor’s like nose a little, sour is out front, tho not overly sour - tamed a bit by fruitiness. Great body. Appearance is a nice clear, reddish amber. Pleasant finish.
2.4Pours dark gold with almost no head. Nose is subtle with a bit of sour apple and a little hops. Profile is slightly tart and otherwise bland. Drinkable kinda but quite boring.
3.3Pours an amber color with a white head. Aroma is sweet caramel malts and maybe a hint of floral hops. Good come out a little bit more on the flavor but it’s still dominate of the caramel malts.
4.0From a 12 oz bottle into a Ayinger glass. Pours gold amber with head and lace. Aroma of grains, bright malts, slight lavender and strawberry. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of strong grains, minerals, citrus rind, amber malts, slight horse blanket, twang. Overall one of the most drinkable brett based beers I’ve had...flavorful, refreshing, drinkable with a manageable bite of wildness.
3.4On tap at St Augustine’s, Vancouver. Clear amber pour. Caramel notes, interesting blend of hops - a bit grassy, fruity, some melon - and some Brett yeast. A touch metallic. Not too sweet, fairly well balanced with a bit of a dry finish.
3.3Draft. An amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of caramel, hops, and straw. The flavor is malt, caramel,, and citrus fruits, leading to a bitter finsh.
3.5Dark amber. Frothy off white head. Sweet Caramel. Earth. Fruity. ’Wild’ character is minimal. Moderate bittersweet. Dry finish. Decent for a widely produced 12er
4.1Medium body, hoppy. Beautiful burnt orange color. A little dry but not too much. Well balanced and delicious.
3.4Sparkling, dark copper pour, sticky bone-colored head that hangs around a while and leaves a light film of lacing. Aroma has a tannic essence to it, some slight nutty accents and a whisper of sourness. Flavor brings out some apricot-like notes, a touch of pineapple fruitiness, some light nuttiness. Wanders around somewhat. Decent textured mouthfeel. Thanks to Aurelius for holding this out of his variety pack,
3.1Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Hazy amber color, dull. Mild funky and fruity aroma. The flavor is lean but malty, off dry in the front and drier in the final, light fruitiness, low bitterness.
Shallow beer, unwild, but not bad.
3.3Dark Amber body white head nice lacing. Funk and sweet bubblegum aroma. Taste is more mild. Some sweet grains, funk, hops. Not bad.
