New Belgium Blue Paddle

New Belgium Blue Paddle

Climb on in and grab a paddle. Our first foray into lagered beers, Blue Paddle Pilsener-Lager, is a Czech style pilsener with a refreshing crispness from noble hops and a rich, malty finish. ‘Blue Paddle’ refers to the implement our warehouse manager’s Grandma once used to lovingly paddle his a** when she caught him stealing sips of her beer. With more body than a traditional Belgian pils, Blue Paddle is reflective of Europe’s finest pilseners.

2.8 Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass. Clear golden color with thin head. Little overwhelming straw taste for my preference.
2.7 One of the better pills is out there. Good and crisp. Your mind after taste. Out of a can on a golf course.
3.2 Out of the bottle with dinner at home tonight. Light bitterness with some grass and light malt. Light body. Easy for giluping but oretty forgetable.
3.0 Not exactly "Czech style", but nice enough. Quite easy to drink, no creaminess, but a serviceable hop profile. Floral and crisp.
2.4 Looking forward to trying this bottle, never saw it before round here. Looks pale clear and refreshing enough. Smells like its gonna a be a strong tasting pilsner, and it is. Lots of sharper old country pilsner effects. Good sizzle as well which seems to make it more enjoyable. Getting better as the session continues. Finishes with a decent enough pilsner kick.
2.9 Hazy golden appearance with a bit of malt grassy hops can a flat finish. Drinkable, but not the best of lagers.
3.3 3/4" white head dropped quickly leaving behind nice lace rings... Crystal clear straw gold. Pale malts and grassy hops are the only aroma. Flavor is very clean pale malt and good bitter backbone with earthy hops mid palate that melt away quickly making me want another sip. Ideal body and carbonation.
3.2 On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out crisp crackery malt and grassy hops. Flavour is crisp, with grassy hops, biscuity malt and bready notes. Clean and decently balanced. Solid.
3.1 Clean and refreshing. Good balance and a hop profile that fits well in this style of beer.
3.1 Light golden pour with white head. Light biscuit malt aroma. Clean, crisp malt flavor with little hop bitterness. Refreshing and easy drinking, but not a lot of flavor.
3.4 Tap at Antenna. Nice biscuit malt nose, noble hops. A bit sweet, biscuity, cream, with herbs a light bitterness. A good fresh pils. Not so exciting, but good enough.
3.0 A good pilsener, perhaps too hoppy and malty. Ideally more crisp and a touch of german hops. But this was still good and enjoyable. Good carbonation and somewhat light on the tongue.
2.7 Can at home. A light spritzy Pils, with cracker malt, straw, Saaz hops, fresh mown grass, and a dry grainy finish. Meh.
3.3 Rich golden malt, slight straw and hay, mild but notice Pilsner hops. Creamy yet fizzy head. A nice spring/summer beer
3.4 Draft - Light orange and citrus notes. Clear gold with a rich white head. Light grains and citrus with a touch of peel. Nice beer, but a bit more citrus than in any Euro pils o have had.
3.0 A very basic beer. Pour a clear golden straw with a fizzy white head. The nose is grainy and straw with a pinch of floral and grass notes. Basic profile, light grains and cereal malts with a pinch of hops. Clean and crisp.
3.0 From the tap poured a yellow brew with a thick white head. Well balanced aromas and flavors of malt and hops. A little heavier than I like in a Pilsner, but tasty, never the less.
2.8 Pour is clear blonde. Taste is straw and mild hops. Kind of fired up my sneezes. Coincidence?
3.3 Poured from draft at spin. Good for a check. Mild and smooth. Good hops. Golden with bubbles
2.8 On tap at Laughing Man. Gold body with medium head. Nose is eggy, hoppy. Taste is toasty, of hops and wheat. But a rather bland beer really.
2.7 1/21/16 Washington DC (16 oz draft pour into standard pint glass). Blonde pour, nominal white head and carbonation. No aroma, somewhat sweet hop taste, nice and easy going down. Overall OK offering.
3.2 Tap. Golden with decent head. Smells like dry grain with a snap. Taste follows. Not bad.
3.0 Draft at Madrone’s in Frederick, MD served in a pint glass; clear golden color with thin white head. Aroma notes of bready malt sweetness and hoppy grass. Taste adds graininess and some earthy bitterness. Light body, moderate carbonation, crisp with clean finish. Pretty solid lager.
3.2 Brown bottle, world market San Francisco. Pours transparent golden with no head and light suspended bits. Scent is medium pilsener yeast with a bit of lemon tart. Taste is medium sweet with a nice herbal bite and a typical pilsener yeast. Finish is light and smooth. Good.
3.4 12 oz. bottle. Pours clear golden with frothy white head. Aroma was sweet and malty. Taste was refreshing and sweet.
2.9 Clear golden amber, light white head. Light bready sweetness, slightly grassy. Light bitterness, malty. Some carbonation, light body, shorter finish. Clean. Fine.
3.3 Many thanks to Chris for this bottle! Smooth mild but nice bittered. Czech-typical sweetish mild. The bitterness is intense, dry-mild in the end. Round and fresh, easy to drink. Nice copy of this Czech style!
3.7 Clear, golden body under a one-finger, foamy white head that did not foam away instantly. Pale malt aroma with peppery hops behind. Balanced flavor with a gentle malt sweetness giving way to fresh herbal and pepper notes that linger. Crisp, effervescent feel in the mouth while the body itself is more hearty. Good session beer. ~~~~ 12 oz. bottle from a friend at a BBQ.
2.7 Yellow fizzy stuff. Tastes like a buttery biscuit. Smells like corn. Not my preferred style. Can drink this all day.
3.7 Pours a straw color. Very clear. About one finger head. Very nice lacing and retention. Pretty well carbonated. Aroma is hoppy. It smells like a pilsener. Nothing fancy or notable. Taste is also like a pils. It’s hoppy, slightly malty. It’s earthy. It’s good, it’s true to form, but there’s nothing out of place. Not that that is bad. If I’m at a restaurant and I order mac and cheese and it has apple chunks in it, I would observe that as a bad thing. If it had chorizo in it, I might think of it as a good thing. Same with this, it’s nothing odd, special, or different. Mouthfeel is quite crisp, refreshing. It’s pretty dry. It’s medium-light body. Again, nothing special. It’s true to style. Overall, it’s good. It’s not great. But certainly a solid pils. If I were thirsty for a pilsener, I would certainly not be shy of this. Sorry Miller Lite, this is a good true pils.
