New Belgium Hoptober Golden Ale

New Belgium Hoptober Golden Ale

Five hops and four malts make Hoptober Golden Ale a veritable cornucopia of earth. Pale and wheat malt are mashed with rye and oats to create a medium-bodied ale with creamy mouth feel. Centennial, Cascade, Sterling, Willamette and Glacier hops form a bonfire of citrus notes, fruity cheers and a bold finale.

3.0 Pours a clear golden color with white head. Lots of floral hops on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a little caramel malt.
3.1 Bomber (really old bottle). Amber with a beige head. Old malt and faint hops. It's beer.
4.1 A- Pours a clear golden yellow hue with a chunky 2 finger head. S- Light fruits, hints of floral hops. T- Nice light fruit flavor, slight citrusy tangerine notes, lots of hops all the way through. M- Medium bodied with a good deal of carbonation. D- This is definitely a solid NB seasonal thats simplicity is what makes it great.
3.4 bottle. golden with small head. light body and moderate hops in the finish. grassy.
2.6 Old tick, NB’s attempt going against amber ales and oktoberfests, it doesn’t delvier hops.
3.9 Best by 11DEC11 A: Pours a golden ale with a single finger head that goes down to a sheet of the same. Excellent clarity. Rings of lace. S: Citrusy and pleasant. Really great nose here, distinctly orange and lemon. Nice. T: Sharp hops and sweet malts. Great flavor is just as citrus laden as the nose. M: Medium bodied with moderate carb. Semi dry finish. O: Good beer. Easy to drink. Reminds me of fresh Bitter American. Very sessionable. Serving type: bottle 08-20-2011
2.8 A hazed golden ale with a thick frothy white head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light sulfur notes, so-so. In mouth, a sweetish malt with light fruity esters, faint grassy hops, OK. Bottle Oct. 2011.
3.2 This was a 3 year old bottle, poured light golden. Nose slight sour, syrupy malt, and dank hop. Taste sweet malt and bitter bite, faint spiciness. Mild bitter finish. I realize it was past date, but not too bad.
3.5 Rated on 9-13-2009 (Bottle-Best Before: 12Feb2010) This beer forms a small fizzy white head with a short retention, transparent golden body, very little carbonation observed, and spotty amounts of lacing. The Aroma is wheat malt, bitter, citrus hops, and fruity. The Taste is bitter, some rye, fruity, and citrus hops. The Palate is tingly and semi-fizzy and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, there is a definite hop presence, but not overly so. This is a tasty beer from this brewery, worth trying, and a beer I would drink again.
3.6 September 2011. From bottle. Golden color with a white head. Aromas of malt, hops, spice and light fruit. Good balance, good hoppiness. A bit of citrus on the finish.
4.0 Rated this beer with an earlier app and unfortunately not able to import my comments. Will add them later if I have this beer again.
3.5 Bottle. This is a nice simple golden ale with lots great autumnal flavors.
3.8 Notes from 2012 Fall for Greenville New Belgium tasting session. Plenty of hop aroma.fresh, fruity, and clean. Complex hop mix, with fruity, herbal and floral aspects, but featuring citrus with lemon, orange, lime and grapefruit, in that order. A hint of charred weed. Very pleasant and fruity. T: More hops than malt, for sure, yet balanced only slightly more bitter than sweet. Quite fruity with some orange peel and earthy hops in the lingering aftertaste. M: well carbonated; medium-light body. A bit of dryness in the clean finish. Overall: Definitely better (and fruitier!) than expected, especially for style. Easy drinking and would make for an excellent session beer.
4.0 A - This beer has a clear golden body with a 3/4 inch tight white head. Small patches of lacing. S - Grassy hops with notes of straw, oranges, honey, floral spice on top of a sweet malt base. T - Starts off with a green grassy bitterness that turns to candy grapefruit sweetness. A prevalent malt backbone adds character that blends and balances all the green together. There’s some tartness towards the end that adds good dimension. Finishes dry and spicy. M - Light to medium body average carbonation. One of the best I’ve had of this style. Love the hop profile and the malt is actually what makes this a winner. The burps taste like leafy green hops. Top of the line. Serving type: bottle 10-25-2010
4.2 Where did this beer come from? I tried it at an Oktoberfest tasting and expected something very different., anticipating an incorrect labeling. The label is correct and this is a pretty solid golden. Dry, with some light citrus sweetness and spices. Golden appearance.
3.7 The head is ok, the nody dark brown. It smells hoppy and a bit grassy. The taste is very hoppy, bitter-aromatic, malty, a bit grassy-dry. Nice one! 11/12/12/12/11/12
3.5 Pours amber with a beige head. Malty aroma with citrus and pine notes. Smooth malty flavor with nice hop bitterness. Slightly creamy mouthfeel with medium carbonation.
3.6 Draft from Green Leafe Newtown. Pours coppery dark straw with off-white head. Nose was marzeny malt, substantial hops, mild earthy nutty notes. Tasted malty, marzeny, with a big hop flavor and a complex finish.
3.5 On draft. The aroma is good and hoppy. This is a good looking beer. The taste is basically a a hoppy oktoberfest beer. Pretty good, overall.
2.8 Draft at quaker steak. Pours brown with a thin head. Not much on the nose. A bit of malt and hop astringency on the tongue. Clean finish. Eh!
3.7 Tap in a New Belgium chalice. Chocolate brown color with a thin white head. Green coffee bean aroma. Taste is roasty and slightly sweet caramel malt with a big citrus hop presence. Lemon and like perfume fill the mouth. Medium mouthfeel, slightly creamy. This isn't a golden but they've got it labeled as Hoptober and it's surprisingly good.
3.6 poured a golden copper no head on this pour. aroma hops, spices, citrus flavor hops, lemon, malts, earthy. this is a nice easy drinking beer
4.0 Draft pours golden with a white head. Aroma of malt, citrus, pine and spices. Taste is malt, and the nice bitter hops.
2.4 Draft. Medium carbonation, dark gold/copper, some lacing. Aroma is nutty/grainy . Flavor, initial malt with medium hoppiness lingering at the end. The mix of flavors is too competative in this beer. If it leaned more in one direction or the other it would improve. Medium body. Nothing to write home about.
3.7 On tap at Kelly's. Very interesting aroma-very fall-y. Leaves, faint campfire, roasted nuts. Whatever that hop is, it's peculiar and good for this beer. Nutty malty.
4.0 On first pouring this one, the drinker is bombarded with grapfruit, citrus, and piney aromas. The golden, slightly cloudy ale drinks with a mildly thick mouthfeel tasting of oats and wheat. The finish is medium heavy witch continues to tease the drinker into another full swallow. I love this one.
3.4 Creamy and fruity. Hints of orange and lemon. Very smooth to drink and not overly hoppy.
3.8 Light yeasty aroma with hints of citrus and fruit. Respectable long-lasting white head with excellent lacing. Pours a clear gold with light carbonation. Light but surprisingly creamy body with a very smooth finish.
3.6 Originally reviewed: 8/24/09. Nice to see another NB brew on the shelves here. Pours a light gold with a big frothy white head on top. Great retention and it leaves some nice lacing on the glass edge. Smells like oranges, lemons, and candy. The mouth is crisp and clean. Plenty of carbonation on this one. The taste is interesting. Pretty citrusy and hoppy. This is like a tamed down IPA. This is not bad. It’s not your typical "October" beer, but it’s good. Refreshing and tasty.
3.0 Bottle with best y Nov 2011 consumed on March 23, 2012. Appearance is gold with visible effervescence and a big head. Taste and flavor are gentle and sweet malt with some honey citrus tones. Very refreshing creamy body. Drinkable as hell several months past expiration!
