Famous in Michigan for farmhouse ales, our friends at Brewery Viviant introduced us to their biere de garde ale yeast strain. From there, we imagined a slightly tart, intentionally dry beer with hints of bergamot citrus that pairs perfectly with French cheeses.

3.3Pour out of 22 oz bottle, hazy golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of white fruit, hints of slight oak, grass, touch of earth in there as well, slight peach, hints of biscuit, bread. Taste is a mix of grass, biscuit, bread, hints of touch of oaky tones, slight white fruit, peach, slight white fruit, finishing slightly spicy, dry.
3.0Alright, shenanigans. This was supposed to be done with sour cherries as I recall - where’d these orange peels come from....
Pours a nice golden yellow with a solid sheet of whites - these falls away quickly leaving a central dome. Smells include an up front slap of orange peel, some seeds of paradise character, some dried apricots, belgian yeast and a bit of grain. Taste is rich, sweet and slightly citric. The juice comes thru, but seems just juicy and sweet, not tart or sharp as I like my citric juices. The grain is also more malty than I would have predicted, some bits of apricot here as well. Medium on chubby body with lighter carb. This beer is okay, glad it’s a one and done though.

3.6Bomber in a trade with wchesser. This pours a fairly deep golden hue and is mostly clear. Lots of visible carbonation. A light but nice aroma of soft fruit and malts. A thick white layer of foam stays. First sip is tropical and passion fruit and it is fairly pronounced. Pale malts that are right for a biere de garde. The yeast is also right and brings just a bit of farmhouse funk. A little orange is tasted. A pleasant beer.
4.0Drank from a bomber. Pours a bright, slightly-cloudy gold. A small white head. Very aromatic. Papaya, honeydew, bread dough and phenol. A touch of lemon grass. A hint of funkiness. The taste is sweet with a little pancake batter and orange soda. Some paper napkin dries out the finish. Medium-bodied, with a mildly biting mouthfeel. Love it. I want to make a beer like this someday!
4.0Tap at FFF. Hazy orange-tan. Thin, oily off-white head. Funky sour aroma, touch of malty sweetness. Wow, they nailed it with this one. Big tropical hop tones and an almost white wine dryness. Very complex but merges together well. Saison meets Biere de Garde. World Class. The dry, funky sourness is sublime, not test tubey at all. Clean caramel toffee tinged golden malt backbone. Well done.
4.0Pours clear golden with a subtle orange hue and white head. Aroma is farmhouse funk from the yeast and soft sweet oranges. Flavor brings some orange tang with a drier ending maintaining the orange flavor.
3.922 oz bottle- Pours hazy light golden with a one finger head that slowly reduces. Aroma is spicy peppercorns, orange, some other type of citrus that is hard to identify, there is a bit of funk there. The taste is fruity, oranges and tropical fruits, sweetarts, yeasty and finishes moderately dry. Body is medium and carbonation is soft. Good, much better than the LOF Brett Beer just before this.
3.9Bomber poured into a shaker. Pours a mostly clear dark gold with minimal head. Spicy and earthy with a little citrus and funk. Taste is light sweet. Lemon citrus with funk, spicy, earthy and floral notes. Light bodied with a thin texture. Soft carbonation and a decently long finish. Overall, very good. The alcohol is very well hidden.
4.0Floral. Very nice beer. Better than the ratings. Pours golden with a nice head. Some citrus and very floral. Slightly sweet but with a spicy dry finish. Very nice.
3.5Overall pretty decent brew on tap at the daily pint, gold pour, white head, nice tart finish
3.3Poured from a large bottle, the color is a golden yellow with a small white head that dissipates quickly. I smell citrus, yeast and honey. I taste some spice, hay, honey and malt. It has a nice tart clean finish. Nice....
3.7Bottled from Wegmans sterling. Pouts golden with an inch if white foam. Kind of sweet and perfumed on the tongue. Rates like earl grey tea on the tongue. Very dry on the finish. Nice!
3.6Bottle from Wegmans Sterling - pours hazy gold with yeast floaters. Aroma remind me of earl grey tea with some citrus and wheat. Taste is sweet with some dryness in the mid palate. Nice!
3.6Pour from a bottle at the brewery. Pours a bright, semi-cloudy gold that is deeper orange at the wider part of the glass and has a small white head. Notes of sweet and bready malts, melon, dried papaya, dry dough, and some farmhouse funk. Medium-bodied, with a sweet, dry, bready mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nice BDG.
3.5Poured a slightly hazy yellow with a fluffy head. Nose is faint. Tastes of musk and farmhouse.
3.2On tap @ Malibu Sundowner. Clear golden pour with a white head. Floral, earthy, and spicy notes on the nose. Some sweet malt, soap, yeast, and a hint of lemon peel. Flavors of soap, floral hops, and some spices. Sweet malt, light lemon, and grass. Maybe a bit of lemon.
4.3Nice spice and citrus tones with bready notes. Slightly hazy golden. Semi-sweet with good spice flavor and a lot of yeast notes. Balanced with a dry spicy finish.
4.3From bottle. Delicious, dry farmhouse with a little spice and subtle tartness.
3.4Bottle:   Orangish straw, pale haze, moderate frothy white head, little lacing.   Non-descript floral nose, a little honeydew melon perhaps.   Soft, musty, and warming like yeasty breadiness.   Has a soft floral
aspect that is lighter than the nose suggested.   Not as musty or barnish as others, but with more punch and muted spicy bits.   Hard to believe this is actually 9%!   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.
Yeasty/doughy/bready finish, but not too heavy or musty.   Comes across as way lighter than the 9% implies.   A bit too easy to drink.   Enjoyed it more than those from France!
3.2Bottle to pint glass
Aroma of plum, honey, wine, dough, and straw. It's a light yellow with many tiny particulates and a nice white creamy head. Taste is wheat and plum, a touch sour and yeasty. It's light bodied and a little gritty.
3.9Rating from last night. Bomber pours hazy cantaloupe with a medium white head with decent retention. Aroma is citrusy, doughy, spices and herbs. Taste is candy sweet but not cloying, slightly savory, faintly tart, a little dry. A bit of a cheesy flavor. Has a nice flavor if it’s not very true to style. Tasty. I’ve been passing this one up for months now because I kind of lost interest in this style of beer. I’m glad I finally decided to pick one up.
2.1Pours clear straw gold with a small creamy white head that retains well and leaves a little lacing. Aroma is musty stinky, almost rotting, oranges with a little bready malt. Flavor is sweet oranges and musty yeast with a kind of dry and lightly bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, kind of odd - sweet musty oranges with a dry bitter, kind of off finish.
3.722oz bottle, shared with DanielCoor. Got this from a trade with adnielsen, I’m pretty sure -- thanks Aaron! Sticker on the bottle reads 10/26/12. Very lemony, citrusy aroma in the nose. Light herbs. Clear yellow orange color. Few particles suspended in the body. Thin white head. Pretty nice spread of lace. Bigger body. Smooth, crisp lighter carbonation. Love the lemony, citrusy, orange peel flavors. Light spice. Very zesty flavor, moderate sweet. Good fruit beer (that’s how I see this). I liked it a lot. Definitely out there for a biere de grade, way stronger and fruitier than typical, but I enjoyed it
3.722oz bottle in a tulip. Pours hazy amber with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of spicy yeah, some light fruits and citrus, a nice caramel maltiness, and some floral hops. Flavor the same with a good blend of everything. Average texture. A pretty good beer.
3.8Bottle shared by a friend. Clear gold in color with a medium white head. Aroma of malt, orange and herbs. Sweet malt flavor, followed by orange and herbs before a sweet finish.
3.6bomber shared by jsprime. amber with an off white head. very balanced, malt leading the way. nice fermentation character. drinks lighter then the weight. decent BDG.
3.2Shared by DrSilverworm, thanks dude. Pours a deep yellow to light orange color. Smells good but not quite sure how to describe. Tastes like lemon more so than the orange peel advertised on the label. Tasty beer
3.6Tap at Crystal Beer Parlor, Savannah. It pours hazy orange-amber with a small white head. The nose is fresh orange, sherbet, candy, tinned peach, appetizer and lemon poppy seed muffin. The taste is zesty orange, lemon, earth, orange sponge cake, light spice, dough, some alcohol warmth and appletizer with a dry, bitter-sweet finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and slighty sticky mouth-feel. A touch on the sweet side, but prett tasty nonetheless. Decent stuff.
3.1January 2013. 22 oz. bottle. Pours cloudy pale yellow with a white head. Bread, citrus and yeast aromas. Flavors are spicy with wheat and yeast flavors.
3.2Bottle. Aroma of fruit loops right out the gate. Pours nearly clear (some sediments floating around) with thin white head and irregular lacing. Cheesy, mandarin oranges as well. Taste finishes with pepper and thyme. Cheese and synthetic, fruit loop taste as well. Dry and spicy. Light body. Others at this tasting really liked this, but I had a hard time finishing my 4 oz pour.
