New Belgium Lips of Faith - Cocoa Mole

New Belgium Lips of Faith - Cocoa Mole

Say hola to a spiced up ale full of cocoa and ancho, guajillo, chipotle peppers. But don’t fear the heat, because plenty of caramel and chocolate malts bring a smooth, complex flavor. Scents of cinnamon when poured will have your saying "¡Ole For Mole!"

4.1 Opaque black hue with a negligibly sized white head. Extremely unique and chaotic aroma with notes of caramel, vanilla, chocolate, spice, cotton candy, nutmeg, and a few others that I cannot ascertain. Mid bodied and creamy. Initial taste is creamy chocolate milk, caramel, and vanilla and the finish consists of roast, jalapeno, nutmeg, and bubblegum. Lingering spice. Wonderfully unique.
2.9 Very thin over spiced. Really disappointed though I like spiced stouts. Not horrible but never again.
3.9 Tap at Queens Head. Pours deep brown with a off white head. Aroma of cocoa, chili, anise and cinnamon. Flavor packed with chocolate, raisins and spices up front with a lingering light chili burn.
2.1 @ Stordirren 15-8-29: (backlograting) Ganska tunn vätska. Mycket kryddig doft samt doft av körsbär. Inte riktigt gott. Mycket kanel och chili ... nja
3.7 22 oz bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours cola brown in color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have a base of nice chocolate character with ample spices throughout, peppery spice, Saigon cinnamon adds a different character, sweet vanilla, sweet malts, lighter hints of smoke, interesting enough.
3.7 Bottle. Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that lasted with very good lacing. Aroma was a moderate peppers, chocolate and spice aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy complex toasted chocolate malt, peppers and spice flavor and a medium to heavy complex chocolate finish of moderate duration. This is a solid beer.
3.5 Bottle at Malt och Humle, Linköping, on September 12, 2015. Clear dark brown color, tan head. Mainly cocoa scent, also spicy like soft ginger bread, reminds me of cookies and Christmas. Cocoa, chili fruits, musty taste. Chili heat, cocoa aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, medium low bitterness.
3.4 Draft at Bru. Cloudy nearly black pour with splashes of a foamy beige head. Spicy dark malts. Potent for the style. Dark burnt chocolate cocoa for the style. Slightly overrun with pervasive cocoa flavors. Still tremendous stuff moving the narrative forward.
4.0 Bottle to glass. Pours a deep brown to black color with a light brown head. Cinnamon, gingerbread, with a spicy chili finish. Excellent!
3.4 Brown ale with small creamy tan head. Spiced dark fruit and herbs on the nose. Taste- sweet malt, chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, oak and a hint of smoked paprika and chilli pepper. Has some root beer spice flavors. Mild and sweet finish, very little bitterness. Interesting spiced chocolate porter.
4.1 Raisin and cinnamon scent. Red brown color. Taste is sweet with raisin, dates, and toffee. If you are going to call it cocoa, think Nestle Quick. Very deep Christmas fruits and thick. Almost like pudding. Hard to do as a full beer, easier as a sample. Tap.
3.4 Bottle at BBF Lab. Brown colour with off white head. Cinnamon and spicy aroma. Cinnamon, sweet, chocolate, spicy taste. Medium body.
4.0 Overall: Sweet chocolate, dark berries, some licorice, then a pure strong chili taste. Note: On-tap at Malt och Humle. Reviewed 2015-08-21.
4.2 Quite good within this style. Nice amount of heat, rich cinnamon character, not overly thick, altogether a delicious beer.
3.5 650 ml bottle poured at home. Pours a dark brown with no head but beige lacing. Smells like chili powder. Taste is chocolate with a spicy chili kick at the end. I rated another mexican stout not long ago and really didn’t enjoy it. This one is considerably better, although I don’t love the style. Still, it’s drinkable.
3.8 Draft at Clips Beer and Film Tour Colorado Springs. Pours dark Ruby brown with a fizzy beige head. Tastes like sweet roasted malt, dry cocoa, cinnamon, and dried dark fruits. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like dried dark fruits, cocoa, cinnamon, sweet malt, and light booze.
3.6 pours hazy dark chestnut. aroma chocolate malts, spices and chilli pepper. sweetish flavour of chilli, cinnamon, gingerbread, cocoa. alcohol warmth blends with chilli burn.
1.7 Sampled from bottle @ Leuven Innovation Beer Festival. Dark brown to black color with a nice deep dark red glow coming through, small to average sized beige head. Aroma is not cocoa but some other spice, nutmeg or cinnamon. Taste malts, sweetness, peppers, spices and just yuk. Not good at all.
3.5 [7108-20150304] Tap. Rich chocolate cinnamon aroma. Clear, dark brown amber body with a quick foamy off-white head. Super chocolatey and grainy cinnamon hot peppers and rich roasted grains flavour. Medium-full body. Good. (8/3/7/3/14) 3.5 (@ Birch & Barley, Washington, DC)
3.1 Sample at Leuven Innovation Beer Festival. Thanks for sharing today’s beers! APPEARANCE: clear dark brown beer. NOSE: over the top in spices! TASTE: the same... Don’t really enjoy this...
3.4 Draft @ Taproom, Malmö. Pours a dark brown color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocolate chili aroma. Roasted malty spicy chili chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate chili finish.
3.9 On tap at Watering Hole. Muddy chocolate color with caramel highlights and a small tan head. Big aromas of chocolate and cinnamon with some chilli pepper too. Rich and smooth slightly syrupy mouthfeel with average to soft carbonation. Starts off sweet and then ends with a nice chilli burn. The cinnamon is a little overbearing but still very enjoyable.
2.4 24/V/15 - sample from bottle @ LIBF (Leuven) - BB: n/a (2015-721) Thanks to the Belgian (and Dutch, and...) RB crew for sharing today’s beers! Clear dark brown to red brown beer, creamy irregular beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very spicy, some ersatz chocolate, sweet. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: lots of fake chocolate, very spicy, cinnamon, quite some chillies, watery impression though. Aftertaste: chillies burning, spices, lots of ginger bread, more chillies. Well, this is how it’s not done, I guess... Lame Hunahpu copy.
4.4 Great pour at the brewery I got to do myself. Pours dark caramel. Aroma of coffee beans and chocolate with a hint of molasis. Flavor is rich cocoa and coffee. Smooth well balanced malts. Really enjoyed this one.
3.7 Dark amber brown colour, white head. Aroma of malts, spices cacao and cinnamon. Sweet, quite herbal, spicy flavour, some chili, ginger and cacao. Sweet finish, cacao, cinnamon and mild chili heat. (From 66cL bottle @ Leuven Innovation, Leuven 2015. Thanks for sharing today’s beer, RB crew!)
3.6 Flavor of caramel, chocolate, coffee, chipotle, with a tan and taste all its flavors!!
3.8 Braun bis schwarz. In der Nase Zimt, Schokolade, Kakao. Am gaumen Süße, Zimtnoten, Schärfe hintenraus, Kakao, recht cremig, etwas dünn. Sehr lecker.
4.1 Bomber.
2.7 Sample from tap at Pipes of Scotland. Brown with tan head. Aroma has sweet chocolate, coca, smoke, green chilies, roasted malt, caramel and various spice. Taste is similar, lots of cocoa, sweet malt, chocolate, rum, spice, cinnamon. A bit too sweet and spicy for me
3.4 15cl sample from bottle at the Leuven Innovation Beer Festival (25 V 2015). Dark redbrown, black, with an even red ruby gloom. The nose has black pepper, spices, cinnamon, coffee. The taste too is very, very peppery, with ginger hints. Nice.
