Eric’s Ale, named for long time New Belgium brewer Eric Salazar, combines a dry, sour beer aged up to three years in oak foeders with a semi sweet, higher alcohol base beer. The resulting blend is re-fermented with peach juice, creating a smooth ale with subtle peach tones and a warm, spicy finish. The aroma has pleasant hints of vanilla and tropical fruit, the wood characteristics are present but nicely muted.

3.5Pretty generic tasting fruit beer. Crystal clear pale copper color. Aroma of sweet peach and light bready malts. Taste is mild tartness high sweetness and a lot of fruit. Not bad but more of a fruit beer than a wild ale.
3.2Bottle served in a tulip. Appearance is a hazy golden orange with no head or lacing. Aroma is peaches and something tart I cannot put my finger on. Taste is peach, tart fruit, and oak. Thin to the palate and it doesn’t linger very long. Nice for the style.
2.5Just as it says, this is a good sour beer for folks that don't like sours. It's a little watery and plain, but it's nice enough.
4.2slightly cloudy amber color; mildly sour peach aroma; slightly tart peach flavor with oak notes; just slightly sour; very smooth; really enjoyable
3.5650ml bottle from Armanetti in Huntley. Split with the namesake. Cellared 2 months. Yellowish orange with a white head. Aroma has tropical fruits, peach, some funk, sweet malt and tangy yeast. Taste follows. More peachy and belgian-y than the nose. Medium bodied. Finishes tangy sweet with a touch of bitterness for some balance. Decent. More fruity than wild. 13.8
3.5At GABF 2015. They described it as wood aged rather than barrel aged. Lightly sour, just a little. refreshing. There is peach for sure. Low carbonation, fine for a three year old beer. I did not realize the alcohol was so high.
3.7Draft to snifter. Looks good; a slightly translucent bright golden orange with foamy white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells solid; semi-tart and semi-sweet with a nice peach presence alongside notes of oak and mild vanilla. Tastes like it smells with a pleasant medium-bodied mouthfeel that picks up a touch of fuzziness from the peach. Not all that sour, but good beer.
4.0Hazy yellow orange... Aroma of light hops, citrus, peaches, tartness... Flavor is oak, tart peaches, caramel, berries, mild vinous notes on finish... Delicious
3.8Wife’s draft at Victoria’s Gastropub in Columbia, MD served in a tulip glass; tad hazy, slightly orange hued golden color with thin white lacing. Aroma notes of peach fruit, citrus, sour tart and tad oak. Taste adds more fruitiness, light vanilla, earthy yeast and faint spices. Medium body, low carbonation, dry, tannic with tart fruit finish. Tastes lighter than it’s ABV, somewhat subtle but still an excellent sour.
3.7Bomber. Peach/fruit juice flavors really pop with this midly tart brew. Barrel is noticeable and adds a bit of depth. A bit costly, but nice nonetheless.
3.8bottle. Deep golden with one finger head. Moderately tart with a lot of sweet peach fruitness. Oaky and reasonably complex. Not amazing, but not far off either. Solid mildly sour offering that I’d imagine would appeal to many drinkers.
4.2Lactic sour aroma and flavor with an almost funky peachy taste in there too. Peach is a nice authentic peach but it almost adds a funk with the sour. Not too sour, maybe 4 or 5 of 10 sour. Some woody flavors. Nice moderate sour. Not too full bodied and sour but not too light of a sour either.
3.8Aroma: Bright Peach, Mild Apricot
Appearance: Hazy Orangish Hue, Passes Some Light, White Head Ring, Some Lacing
Taste: Peach, Mild Apricot, Mild Dry Hopping Finish
Mouthfeel: Decent Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Drying, Mildly Tart
3.7Hazy golden with a wee white ring of foam around the edge of the glass. Really pleasant nose of peach and sour yeast and a wee kiss of barrel. Strong flavor of peach and apricot and tart sourness, a touch of wood on the dry tart fruity finish. More complex than I thought it would be.
3.9Bottle to glass. Pours a slightly hazy light orange color with an off white head. Aroma is mildly tart, dry. Flavor has a nice tartness to it, but well balanced with a tropical fruity sweetness. Solid beer.
4.5Drinking Eric’s Ale caused me to ask a crucial question. How did New Belgium manage to liquefy Sweet Tarts? Eric’s Ale has that perfect mix of sweet/sour dynamics. Even the texture is similar. Eric’s Ale is bone dry from the alcohol yet spritzy from the carbonation. While I’d love to taste this again to pick up on more of the complexities, I totally enjoyed the candy-like flavors.
3.3I do not care for sours at all....that being said of the handful of this style that i have tried this is by far the most enjoyable....not to sour and flavor was decent.
3.9On tap at Falling Rock.
Pours hazy golden with low white head. Aroma is of citrus, acidity, sour raspberries. Taste is of acidity, citrus, sour raspberries. Palate: Light-medium body. Warming alcohol. Medium carbonation. Overall: Quite good. Sourness is reasonnable.
4.0Hazy gold pour with one finger creamy white head. Aroma is sweet and tart peach, light lactic and acetic notes, a hint of cereal and just a touch of smoky, dusty wood. Flavor is tart peach, light slightly Sulphur smokiness, a touch of toast, vanilla, light lactic notes, a little dry hay, just a hint of old dried oak and light breadiness. Light to medium body, dry, but slightly juicy, acidic feel throughout, medium, blanketing and fairly sharp carbonation, which suits the beer perfectly. Really god stuff, maybe not as much depth as I was hoping for, but enough to make it interesting and quite refreshing and easy going.
3.9Gentle tart peach and tannic oak aroma. Appears hazy deep light orange, big white foam, some lace. Tastes of tart and sweet peach followed by a gentle, lingering tannic oak. Mildly fizzy, thick, little oily mouthfeel. Overall, very good when it warms up, hides itself when it is cold.
3.9Tap. Really nice opaque gold. Nice little lacing. Yeasty nose with mild juiciness. Nice tart but full pour. A delicatepeach juice quality witg mild sourness. Very light but full.
3.9Draft/Fest.
A- Peaches, stone fruits, slightly tart, refreshing.
A- Golden color, hazy liquid, white head.
T- Peaches, fruity, juicy, slightly sour, slightly sweet.
P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, refreshing finish.
O- Love of peach and wonderful fruit tones and also not overly tart or sour or sweet. A good balance and a great beer.
3.822 ounce bottle. Pours a cloudy golden orange with a decent white head. Aroma of fruit and citrus. Taste is pineapple, peach, funk, and wood. Enjoyed the tartness. Very nice.
3.8Bottle, slightly cloudy Amber beer, creamy white head, some lace. Aroma is peaches, juicy orange, honey, a faint metal. Taste is peach, kombucha, lemony citrus, black pepper. Palate is light, carbonation moderate.
3.5Bottle. Peach colored body with a short fizzy white head. Strong sour peach, slight funky yeast and woody notes in the nose. Taste is sweeter than the aroma would let on with slightly sour peach notes, light wood, light funky yeast and fermenting fruit notes. Body is light with a faint, bubbly carbonation. Light acidic notes and mild dryness during the finish. Ends with more sour peach, berry notes, fermenting fruit, wood notes and yeast.
4.1Peachy and moderately sweet, yet also has a nice yogurty character and isn’t overwhelmingly tart. Very good.
3.7On tap at Scion in Silver Spring, MD.
Hazy, orangish gold with acre any off-white head and excellent lacing.
Aroma of light fruit, light citrus, tart ripe peaches, passion fruit, pineapple and vanilla.
Taste of slightly sour light fruit, mild browned peaches, passion fruit, pines and oak.
Medium body and medium carbonation.
Very nicely done. Not too sour. Not too peachy. Easy to sip with a salad.
4.3Draft at falling rock, denver. Beautiful pale (peach) color, thin white foam, funky mild aroma. Slight fruit taste upfront with nice sour finish. Another great sour offering from NB!
4.0Tap at The Oak. Aroma is peaches, vanilla, muffins, oak and some sour lemon. Tastes a little more sweet than sour but not by much. Juicy peach, apple juice, lemon peel, and big vanilla. Medium body. Light tartness in the finish. Really good.
