New Belgium Lips of Faith - Le Fleur Misseur?

New Belgium Lips of Faith - Le Fleur Misseur?

Deep burnished gold with a slight haze, Le Fleur Misseur opens with pineapple, clove and honey notes. Dry-hopping produces a flower leaf aroma supported by tones of fresh bread and honey. Le Fleur finishes dry and slightly herbal.

Produced for New Belgium coworkers to celebrate our 15th anniversary, Le Fleur has roots in the earliest days of our history. In 1988 founder Jeff Lebesch sat weary on the side of a Belgian road when a young lad passing by picked a delicate yellow flower and offered it to Jeff.

“Le Fleur, Misseur?” Jeff misspelled the boy’s comment in his journal as he accepted the offering. A treasured memory, a beer to treasure.

Brewed in honor of the New Belgium’s 15th anniversary. It is a tip of the hat to Orval.

2.9 Draft at Falling Rock. A bit of pineapple on the nose. Pours orange tinged with an inch of white foam. A bit dry on the tongue. Seems more like an aborted attempt at a saison.
2.9 22oz bottle. Golden pour, white head of big bubbles. Aroma of Belgian Ale, large amount of golden raisins, dandelion, aged grassy hops. Flavor is tart, pale malt, straw, a touch of acidity. Overly active carbonation. Gives me a bit of acid reflux drinking this, lots of burping, slow to finish. Flavor is as authentic to any Belgian Ale I’ve had, fresh or aged.
3.2 22oz bottle (bottled on 06-25-09) poured into tulip glass. Appearance: Golden yellow in color with lively carbonation. Frothy white head with good lacing. Aroma: Grassy hops, pine, cereal, grapefruit, orange, lemon, hay, and bananas. Taste: Sweet citrus fruits at first then hoppiness comes forward. Hop spiciness. Fizzy. Palate: Light bodied. Dry. Smooth finish but bitter. A good Belgian style ale...I previously had this before and think I remember a different taste, could be from the age, but not sure. Have more in supply, interesting to see if there will be change next time I crack a bottle.
3.6 Bottle, pours hazy dark yellow with slightly off white head, aroma has notes of flowers (big surprise), some fruity notes including some tropical fruit, some slight honey, spices, and some biscuity bread. Taste is a bit thin, but is complex with notes of flowers and honey, mixing with fruit and bread, finishing slightly sweet and fairly dry. Nice.
3.6 bomber from a trade with ericandersnavy. bottled 06 25 09. pours slightly hazed yellow with very nice lacing. dry simple belgian pale ale. was probably better when fresh but its still quite enjoyable. could use some funky bret influence IMO.
3.3 Reviewed from notes. Pours a hazy golden color with a bit of a white head. The nose brings some citrus and tropical fruits with light grain alongside some Brett and light, earthy funk. The taste is mild funk with some fruits and pale malt. Slightly dry feel with some funk. Drinks nice and light; would be interesting to see what the funk turns this into. 3.7 Bottle @ home. Mostly hazy yellow-orange appearance with a white head. Floral hoppy, slightly sour, light Belgian ale nose. Fairly floral hoppy taste with a yeasty, slightly sour, Belgian golden ale flavor. Slightly hoppy, lightly fruity Belgian ale finish.
3.5 Bottle. Pour is light cloudy yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is lemon, chamomile, faint hop, light spice, and hay. Flavor is very true to nose with a lightly floral quality and a crisp spicy finish. Not bad.
3.6 On tap at Brouwer’s. Pours a light honey amber, with a foamy white head. Nose is interesting - herbs and bubblegum. Wheat, cardamom and a bit of rosemary countered with apricot candy. Flavor follows suit, adding floral notes (that could just be my head) with a full but incredibly delicate palate. Dry finish, without being too sharp - it just sort of disappears. A bit of citrus, lots of herbs/floral notes. It’s almost a bit too delicate for my taste, but it’s a very pleasant brew.
3.6 pours hazy straw, minimal white head. subtle carbonation. Pineapple, floral hops, funky yeast, lemon zest on the nose. metallic, wheat clove on flavors. dry finish. unique but refreshing.
3.6 Slightly hazy yellow in the glass with a thin white head. Very floral aroma, like smelling a handful of flowers. Slightly grainy palate with a healthy dose of floral notes there as well. Hint of citrus in the mix as well.
3.7 Bottle. Poured a clear golden color. The head was three fingers high and white with good retention and lacing. Nice aromas including the likes of flower blossom, subdued apple, chamomile, clove, and fruit pastry. There was also a whiff of sweet cream. Light to medium bodied and delicately sweet. Tasted of clove, minerals, light pear, herbal hop, and biscuity malt. Very nice.
3.8 The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the brett character. I get a lot of leather and brett funk, with some lemons and oranges mixed in. Very inviting aroma. The flavor is more of the same. I get brett, leather, oranges, biscuit malt and toffee malt. Lightly funky. Very drinkable. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A very nice wild ale from New Belgium.
3.8 On tap. Golden pour - floral and citrus aromas. Tastes earthy, spicy, and refreshing. This was delicious.
3.3 Pours a foggy light gold with small white foam. Smells lightly sweet and certainly sour. Tastes wheaty and lightly sour with hints of clove and dandelion. Simple, bitter, almost like a sour mead
4.1 Bottle from Ericandersnavy, thanks! Blonde. peppery citrusaroma with a hint of leather. Initial malt, soon taken over by lemony floral flavors. Leather, pepper, esthery. Indeed a tip of the hat to Orval, but fruitier. Well done!
4.2 Cloudy yellow-orange with a puffy white head. Aroma is floral, with spices, hay, orange, lemon, and herbal notes. Taste is herbal and fruity sweet, with a nice fizzy hoppiness. Fizzy carbonation, medium body, and easy drinkability. Very nice.
3.3 22oz. Bottle: Aroma of Belgian yeast, citrus, lemon, hops, light flowers, slight clove, and slight spices. Poured yellow/amber in color with a small, creamy white head that lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer, as well as around the edges. Cloudy. Very sparkling. Full of tiny, and a few small, particles throughout. Excellent lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet and medium bitter. Tastes of hops, citrus, light pollen, light Belgian yeast, water, and a hint of pepper. Light to medium body. Tingly, then lightly dry texture. Lively carbonation. Hops, light Belgian yeast, citrus, water, and slight spice finish is slightly dry, medium sweet, and slightly bitter.
3.9 Well, I certainly got the tip of the hat to Orval mentioned n the description. Blond, with a big fluffy head. Funky, musty and a little bit fruity aroma. Nicely crisp and quenching, but subtley complex with floral, dry white wine and other musty, earthy notes. Tasty and very enjoyable.
3.8 Appearance: bit cloudy with straw and hay-ish tints. White head lingers as a thin head with an equally thin collar. Swirls with a lovely layer of lace. Nose: floral; the greenhouse is abloom and I am enjoying it. Citrus skins and pith before taking a dive down to the tropics with pineapple, cantaloupe, and coconut, fresh of course. Lavender petals, dried, along with wind-blown esters of pollen. Green grass blades. In the back and underneath are faint wisps of new leather, brushed, and cut wood, white. Palate: a sip…beautiful. Kiss of spice in the back while flowers linger long in my breath. Bright refreshing finish ripe with citrus. The spice and flowers intermingle for quite the brilliant pairing, grabbing onto the back of my tongue and never letting go. In that back zing is also where I find cut wood and brushed leather. Dandelions and lavender bloom while their stems and leaves add greenness. Pineapples and cantaloupes hit the juicer. Love how the breath lasts seemingly forever, a constant ebb and flow of floral, tropical, spice, and earth. Final Thoughts: I grew up in the middle of citrus groves and spent countless hours of my childhood playing outside amidst all the aromas and esters of nature. It’s not every day a beer can capture that moment of childhood while at the same time retain an adult sophistication which bespeaks of lazy afternoons in the flower gardens, book in hand, and time to waste. Beautiful.
3.6 Pouring at session one of Belgian Beer Fest in Boston. Pours a hazed gold with a thin white head. Floral, with spicy notes and some wheat in the background. Clean, soft wheat flavors. Smooth and nicely musky. Wheat and more tangy musk on the finish.
3.2 Bottle. Pours a near clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has citrus, particularly lemon, with floral and spice notes as well as a bit of yeast. Flavor is full of yeast with a light lemon note and floral notes as well.
3.7 Bomber, hazy yellow, thin, sparse white head. Aroma is lemon, dried lemon, spicy wood (like teak) Belgian yeast, mild malt. Flavor is woody, herbal, just into medium bodied, a touch of tart fruit, honey is a good descriptor but minimally sweet. Mostly dry with a nice nippy finish. Just a bit thin/tinny, but quite good. Would have liked more if it had more sour going on.
3.8 22oz bottle - Aroma - huge blast of honey sweetness, grassy, spicy, with a strong citrus note. Appearance - cloudy gold body, creamy 2" white head Taste - insanely spicy, earthy, slightly horsey/funkified with some wet-leaves kinda flavor. Strange but good. Palate - medium carbonation, prickly on the palate and finish Overall - a great suprise from New Belgium. The Lips of Faith series has been pretty impressive so far.
3.6 Aroma is all flowers and Brett. Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Healthily hopped with a light bitter finish. Pretty good.
3.8 22oz bottle. Pours a clear but vibrant glowing yellow with a thin white froth. Nice bright lemony aroma, decent amount of brett, light crisp sweetness, delicate and balanced. Flavor follows but is too light and watery, still very delicate and tasty, lemon grass, finishes bitter with lingering dandelion greens, the brett notes is really nicely balanced, lightly chalky. Medium/light bodied, a bit watery, soft fizzy carbonation.
3.3 Draft at the New Belgium Brew Pub at Denver International Airport. Poured a hazy yellow color with an OK sized head. Aroma was an interesting mix of random spices, lemon zest, and honey. Flavor was much of the same thing, with some honey, malt, and a flowery presence. Not bad, but not what I expected.
2.7 22oz bottle pours a translucent, yellow gold with a thin, cloudy white head. Nose is floral, perfume, grass. Flavor is sweet, malty, sugary, hay, flower petals, light honey. Thin, watery finish.
3.0 Shared with maniac and maltdawg. Pours a clear pale yellow with small whitish head. Nose is like smartie candy and some lemony tartness. Flavor is weird funky blend of saison and wild belgian. Cheesy funky. Big carbonation, dry finish. Not all that into it. Very creative though.
3.6 22oz silk screened bomber courtesy of a DC beer blogger with great taste in beer. Poured a cloudy, bright yellow with a large, white head that left spotty lace. Excellent saison nose: grass, lemon zest, minerals, Flintstone vitamins! Taste is dry, grassy, spicy, soapy. A Ryan Artuso beer.
