New Belgium Mothership Wit

New Belgium Mothership Wit

Our first venture into organically-produced beer, Mothership Wit Organic Wheat Beer elevates the zesty Wit or White beers of Belgium. Our far-flung Beer Rangers affectionately refer to our Fort Collins brewery as the Mothership, a name that conjures images of earth shot from space and the interconnectivity of it all. Mothership Wit is brewed with wheat and barley malt, as well as coriander and orange peel spicing resulting in a balance of citrus and sour flavors held in suspension by a bright burst of carbonation.

3.5 Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #56. On draught at Acadia Café in Minneapolis, August 2008. Extremely pale cloudy yellow with a small but lasting white bubbly head and good lacing...honey-spicy nose, a bit of citrus, light dusty yeast...juicy, citric flavors, with lovely dryish cookie-biscuit malts in the body, very well-balanced on the sweet-tart-malty front...full but quite supple body, strong but appropriate carbonation.
3.8 Got this one in a variety 12 pack from New Belgium. 12 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Cloudy yellow color with a creamy whipped head on top. The nose opens up aromas of floral, clove, spice, lemon and banana with a a trace of bubblegum funk. The taste is lemon zest, creamy wheat, banana and herbal spice.
3.2 Poured into tumbler, typical wheat beer color, but with a yellow mineral tinge. Orange peel, I like that there is not too much spice unlike another witbier I tried.
3.2 Pours gold with a fluffy white head. Aroma is wheat, earthy and citrus. Taste is tart and sweet. Light bodied, some dryness on the finish. Nice wit.
2.9 hazy golden color with a thin white head. aroma is yeast and citrus. Flavor is yeast, malt, citrus, and spice.
3.0 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured hazy pale gold with a small white head and no real lacing. Aroma of citrus fruit and coriander. Taste is malty combined with some citrus fruit and some yeast notes. OK, drinkable, not the greatest.
2.6 12-ounce bottles in a glass. A bit sweeter than other white ales I have had, and a bit lighter in color, but not enough wheat flavor. I’ll stick with SA Cold Snap.
3.5 On tap at the brewery. Yellow and slight hazy appearance with a lacy white head. Toasty, herbal, zesty and spicy. A nice, clean and easy-to-drink Wit overall. Glad to have this back!
3.3 Pours a hazy golden color. Nice mixture of wheat and citrus. Lemon/ grapefruit/ wheat/ white pepper. Very refreshing.
4.0 Bottle in Breck with friends. Pour is slightly hazy lemon peel with a big white head and sticky lacing. Bright citrus, nice wheaty malt, coriander, white pepper, somewhat grassy and floral aroma. Taste is waxy, lemony, wheaty, citrusy, peppery, and coriander with a slight spicy finish. Full mouthfeel with high carbonation. Really nice summer quaffer.
3.2 Smooth witbier. Reminds me a bit of hoegarrden though a bit better and more flavorful. Nice to drink on the patio during summer
3.6 Bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with white head. Yeasty, wheat, citrus, grain aromas. Citrus, yeasty, spicy, wheat flavors. Not quite as good as I remembered from 6-7 years ago, but still a really good wit.
3.0 12 oz bottle. Poured a clear straw yellow with a white head and minimal lacing. Faint taste of orange peel, wheat and coriander. Medium carbonation, light body. Overall, it’s watered down.
3.5 Bottle: Slightly hazy yellow with a bright white head. Banana, wheat, coriander scent. Taste is sweet, banana, wheat malt...citrusy.... Increasingly lemony. Light and refreshing.
3.2 Originally rated on 1/10/08. This pours a yellow, hazy brew with very little head. Kind of watery but not bad tasting, hints of citrus and corrander. Not a bad witbier but there are better.
2.9 Old rating. Cloudy gold. Wheat, spice, lemon, some orange. Decently drinkable, but forgettable wheat.
3.1 similar to other standard wits out there with a bit more lemon peeking through the orange and the coriander. not one i’ll seek out again, but not half bad either."
2.5 The color of urine when you have a bladder infection, very odd for a beer. Aroma of lemon zest. Taste is reminiscent of a sour limoncello, very refreshing. Tasty, but simple, everything revolves around the lemon theme.
3.0 Pours a golden color with white head. Raw wheat notes and some spice on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with some citrus hop notes. Not bad.
3.2 Rated on 5-21-2009 (Bottle with a Best Before date of 25Sep09) This beer pours a small very fizzy white head with good retention, cloudy lemon body, one ring of lacing, fizzy, lively and fast rising carbonation. The Aroma is malty, wheat, orange peel, sweet, citrus, and coriander. Ditto for the Taste along with a dry finish. The Palate is tingly and this is a light bodied beer. Overall, this beer is easy to drink, a session beer and refreshing on a Spring day.
3.3 From Beerilicious iphone app: grapefruit. golden hazy and frothy white head sour and short light and thin. very fizzy
3.0 A - Slightly hazy pale yellow with a small white head that sinks quickly. S - Dried bananas, dry wheat, lemon, spices. T - Lemon, clean wheat, banana, lemongrass, coriander, floral hops. M - Light side of medium body, moderate carbonation, smooth feel with a dry finish. This is a nice dry Wit. Subtle on all fronts including the look. Great for hot weather. Serving type: bottle 10-23-2011
3.1 Overall, very simplistic and one note. Lots of just wheat notes. No real backbone.
3.6 I love the taste of wheat beers, so I wondered what an organic wheat beer would taste like. It pours a rather pale yellow color, with a rather heavy scent of wheat. It drinks rather smooth with a strong long lasting wheat taste. The texture is a little to simple for me, perhaps it could use a little more carbonation. Interesting but not my favorite witbier.
4.2 For those who like the Belgian Wit, there are those who like it spicy and some who don’t. This is for those who do. Not particularly subtle, but surprisingly well balanced for the amount of citrus, coriander, and other flavors assaulting your taste buds.
3.8 Smooth and crisp with a little bit of sweetness. Very refreshing. Wonderful on a warm evening.
4.3 This is a very well done witbier. Pours a hazy amber into the glass, unfiltered as it should be. Lots of yeast and wheat on the nose. Taste follows suit with a doughy character in there as well. Hints of orange peel and coriander. Crisp finish, solid beer.
3.1 Nice wheat beer, easy to drink, good for those hot days. Since its organic makes you fell healthy drinking it :-P
3.4 tap@Apex pours pale yellow with a small white head. bubblegum and citrus in the aroma and in the flavor.
1.4 12 oz bottle. Purchased as part of a New Belgium variety pack and did not care for it. Very grassy, grainy, and citrusy to the point of being too overwhelming.
