New Belgium Pumpkick

New Belgium Pumpkick

What’s that bite of tartness doing in a pumpkin beer? Adding the unexpected kick of cranberry juice to brighten this traditionally spiced seasonal ale. PUMPKICK is brewed with plenty of pumpkin juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice, but it’s the cranberries and touch of lemongrass that send your tastebuds sailing.

3.5 Bottle. Pours a mostly clear light amber with a mostly lasting thin lacy off white head. Aroma is of cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin. Taste is of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, cranberry giving some juiciness. Watery mouthfeel, soft to medium carbonation.
3.0 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy, golden, tan with a white frothy head that dissipates slowly. Strong pumpkin, nutmeg, and allspice aromas. Taste is medium sweet with strong flavors of pumpkin, nutmeg, and allspice. There are lemon and citrus undertones too. Body is medium, texture is a little thin and sticky, carbonation is average, and the finish is slightly sour (lemony). Overall, an okay beer whose aroma is slightly better than its taste. I’m not sure if I would buy it again, but I’m not unhappy that I bought a 6-pack to try.
3.4 Come on it was exactly as advertised! Cranberry brings a tart flavor before hit of pumpkin that isn’t super upfront. Very drinkable, without being over the top. I enjoyed it for the style.
3.2 Light haze to a orange pour. Aroma is pumpkin, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg. Taste follows nose...blah blah blah. Ok pumpkin. Aroma better than taste, but nothing special.
3.2 Bottle into pint glass, hazy ambery-golden color with light tan head. Aroma notes of pumpkin spices (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg), caramel and faint berry. Taste adds bread, herbal yeast and faint cranberry tartness. Light body, moderate-low carbonation, tad soft with spice/light tart berry finish. Pretty solid pumpkin ale with some cranberry towards the end, nice.
3.4 12oz bottle. 1/29/17 best by date. Appearance: Light golden, hazy, with a light off white foam cap. Aroma: Strong pumpkin spicing, heavy on cinnamon and allspice, with a slight touch of berry. Taste: Bready, toasty maltiness with nutmeg, turning to a sharp cinnamon, and ends with a tart berry note. Moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a low to moderate carbonation. Finish: Bready maltiness with a cinnamon and nutmeg pumpkin spicing that pops up retronasally. Overall: Fairly standard pumpkin ale that differs by adding a touch of cranberry. The berry character is very minimal, adding a slight tartness on the swallow. There is a nice bready and toasted malt character as well. Nice beer, but not sure I’d order a 2nd
3.1 Nutmeg, cinnamon bread aroma, with raisin and dried cranberry. Pours an amberish orange color with small disappearing head Bready malt flavor with cinnamon and nutmeg and cranberry. Medium bodied with medium high co2, refreshing tartness with lingering spice finish. One of the better pumpkin style beers I've had
3.4 Bottle. Pours orange gold with a thin, creamy head. Aromas of caramel and pumpkin spice. Upfront flavors of sweet pumpkin and spice followed by citrus, honey and grass. Slight herbal notes and bread in the finish. Slightly peppery mouthfeel. Medium carbonation. Really, not too bad. This is not a typical pumpkin beer.
3.3 Aroma is mainly pumpkin pie spices. Flavor is like news slightly tart a touch sweet and a bit thin. Overall it’s okay.
3.5 Pours a very nice amber with thin, active head that fades quickly with decent lacing. Aroma is tart with cranberry, pumpkin, allspice, nutmeg. Taste is mildly tart with more pumpkin and cinnamon. This would be a nice fall beer on a cool night around a campfire. Overall pretty sweet, so I wouldn’t have more than one.
2.8 Little head and lacing. Caramel appearance with slight pink tones. Nutmeg, pumpkin aroma. Medium carbonation. Fall flavor up front with tart lingering.
3.4 UIte good but not so much in flavour. Still noticeable as one of the breweries product. It is nice to drink.
2.7 Bottle to glass - Pours a deep copper, reddish-yellow edges. Small off white head. Smells like one of those antiquey craft stores that the old lady drags you to. Lots of pumpkin and potpourri, some coriander/spice. Decent mouthfeel with a crisp bite towards the end. Just a lot of pumpkin pie and spice. Pretty one dimensional.
3.8 Bottle - Pours a deep amber-orange, white head. Pumpkin pie aroma. Flavor of spice, pumpkin pie, apples... with a hops finish.
2.8 Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver Cloudy golden color. Pumpkin pie aroma, dry-ish mouthfeel, mild cinnamon flavor, some apple touch. At least it’s not heavy…
4.0 New Belgium Pumpkick is a nice twist on a seasonal brew. Pours deep orange with a decent head. Aroma is lightly tart. Taste has an interesting backbone of seasonal spices but with a prominent tartness that doesn’t go overboard -- probably more appropriate for the tail end of Fall getting close to Thanksgiving. Either way, the combination works for an occasional mix in the lineup. Pumpkick is an interesting change-up in the field of Fall seasonals.
3.1 bottle @ Florence Freedom game --- Clear medium amber color, ivory head that stays awhile, curtain of lace. Taste is malt with light pumpkin, hardly any spice. Very little bittering, as the pumpkin is bitter enough. I can drink it, but why would I want to?
3.6 One of the very best pumpkin brews that I have tried! Aroma and taste are muted pumpkin spice, and leaning more to total herbal beer. Cranberry and lemongrass make important contributions!
3.2 The aroma is pumpkin spices, caramel, pumpkin, bread. The appearance is slightly hazy deep amber, white head. The flavor is spices, cinnamon, pumpkin, bread. The finish is cinnamon, nutmeg, spicy. Medium, slightly thick in body. Noot bad at all. A bit routine.
3.0 Hazy amber, thin head. Spicy, any pumpkin? This has a fair bit of sweetness, sugary, fairly spicy. Clean, basic pumpkin beer.
3.4 Draft - Spiced pumpkin pie notes. Cloudy amber with a small beige head. Pumpkin and light spice. Not too sweet or spicy but not getting any of the cranberries or lemongrass. Not bad for a pumpkin beer.
3.2 Normally I hate pumpkin beers (and August is still way too soon to release a fall seasonal). Anyway, I feel like NB had a good idea to add the cranberry juice, which to borrow from their commercial description, "brightens" it up. The little kick of acidity prevents this from being overly pumpkiny and the spicing is mercifully mild. Honestly they could probably drop the spices to make this just a little better. Light bodied, semi-sweet. Elements of all the ingredients are found in the aroma and flavor, with the pumpkin and cranberry more or less sharing equal footing.
2.8 On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours a hazy orange amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of nutmeg and cinnamon upfront, with maybe a little pumpkin purée. Flavour is uninspired, with a lot of nutmeg and cinnamon. Not much actual pumpkin. A spice bomb. Decent.
3.6 Appearance: Hazy ruddy amber body with a dense and frothy tan head. Thick coating. Aroma: Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg come out with a creamy sort of chai aroma. Definitely smells like pumpkin things. Taste: Pumpkin spices are upfront and there’s a bit of tartness from the pumpkin, but I definitely get a bit of cranberry and lemon as the description implies. Pumpkin spices and flavor are the big flavors, but this is interesting. Palate: Light to medium bodied with a slightly oily texture. Moderate carbonation. Overall: Interesting beer, I’d consider buying it again.
4.5 Smells great as you pour from the bottle. Nice amber color. Complex flavor with spices and pumpkin nicely complicated by tart cranberries. Tastes great!
3.3 Complex nose with some sourness, spice, and citrusy hops. The color is cloudy dark yellow / orange with thick dun head. The flavors are also complex. The pumpkin is present, well-balanced with the spices, but muted. The hops and the cranberry tartness work together well to balance the pumpkin / malt sweet element. Medium body, soft fizz. The finish is slightly saline. A pleasantly balanced pumpkin beer. Sampled at Pittsburgh Real Ale Festival 2015, labeled as Dry Hopped Pumpkick.
3.2 pours a clear golden amber. Aromas of all spice, nutmeg, a touch of pumpkin. Nice spicy taste with pumpkin notes.
3.5 11/16/15. 12oz bottle from Five Points. Amber orange pour with a small khaki head. Spiced pumpkin beer aroma, not as over the top as some, with a vanilla kick saving it a little. Vanilla pops nicely in the flavor as well, pie spices, not getting much of the cranberry and lemongrass. Not bad. Better than I was expecting.
3.3 Pours a cloudy rusty orange color with white head. The body is light and not a big fan of the tartness
3.5 Pours golden with a bright white head that leaves very nice lacing. Smells like nutmeg and cinnamon. Flavor is pretty good - I like the pumpkin pie flavors. The cranberry can go, though. I think it detracts from the overall taste. Still a decent Thanksgiving beer (that I’m drinking on New Year’s Eve - go figure that one out for yourself).
